To really want a cold, cold winter?

Just that really. I have enjoyed the summer, don't get me wrong, but I long for a proper winter. Christmas card scenes with snow and frozen ponds.

And this summer has been the best in years.

KirjavaTheCat · 03/09/2013 10:52

My toilet froze over last winter. DP enjoyed cracking the thin layer of ice with morning pee Hmm

No repeat of that thanks!

usualsuspect · 03/09/2013 10:56

I've hardly had my cardi on all summer, so it must have been warm.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2013 10:59

It's only 13 weeks since winter finished - are you a goldfish Grin?

I'm in Bucks and it's a glorious day today. But this is the familiar story very close by.

TheSmallPrint · 03/09/2013 11:16

-19.6 degrees in 2010 - feel free to come and spend you winter here! Grin

Abra1d · 03/09/2013 11:18

I'm with silverapples, short, sharp snowy spell fine by me, but not the months of endless cloud and grey we had here last year.

RobinSparkles · 03/09/2013 11:20

It can be cold and snowy for the whole of December of it wants, but after the 1st of January it can fuck the fuck off!

Thepowerof3 · 03/09/2013 11:21

YABU, we just HAD one like that last year

woozlebear · 03/09/2013 11:35

Oh you load of moaning minnies! Grin

YANBU. I want a lovely cold winter too, but not just long gloomy cloudy wet cold, proper crisp frosty cold. My favourite weather.

People worried slipping over - get some yaktraks. Brilliant things. (Really, the problem with british snow is that there's not enough of it. So it snows once and then stays on the ground for a week getting compacted and re-freezing every night until it's an ice rink. A nice fresh layer would help a lot Smile, or if it was so cold during the day it stayed nice and dry and fluffy not all wet and squishy).

I just want proper seasons. Cold and snowy winter (no rain), proper spring, with light spring storms, lovely warm and sunny summer, cozy autumn with changing leaves and light frosts. I'm sick of this year round drizzle and grey and either warm and sticky and gross, or cold and wet and gross. I think I need to move to New England or somewhere like that.

LadyBryan · 03/09/2013 11:55

Ok. How about compromise. I'll allow a white Christmas.

But I'd rather not be snowed in alone with DD for 4 days next winter Grin

furfoxsake · 03/09/2013 11:56

I want one too so YANBU.
Had a log burner installed in April and am dying to use it in anger, Day After Tomorrow stylee.

Plus my Summer has been crap.

spiderlight · 03/09/2013 12:11

Oooh, yes please - I love proper crisp cold winter weather! I've just been ordering DS a lovely sherpa fleece hoodie and browsing sledges on Amazon Grin

valiumredhead · 03/09/2013 12:26

I really don't think it's that hard to warm up even with fuel as expensive as it is. You do have to adapt granted, wear jumpers and thick socks, electric blanket or hot bottle, maybe heat fewer rooms. When I complained about the hot weather I was told to suck it up, now it's my turnWink

valiumredhead · 03/09/2013 12:27

People forget how to dress for the weather imo they want to walk around inside with at t shirt on and bare feet and expect to be warm-yes Dh, I'm talking about you!

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 03/09/2013 12:29

I love all the slippers and jumpers and woolly hats and mittens and just the cozyness of winter. Plus, more flattering on lumpy bits.

RunFatGirlRun · 03/09/2013 12:29

See I used to think that Valium - until this last winter. I work from home and my study has 2 large windows and 2 external walls. I had thermals, a tracksuit, a dressing gown, a quilt wrapped round me, a woolly hat, and these massive slipper boot things, and I was still so cold I couldn't concentrate Sad

I eventually gave in and bought an additional heater for that room - but was then so worried about fuel costs we turned the central heating down and just lived in that room for 3 days Grin

I still do like winter though. I reckon this year I'll be more prepared for it...

valiumredhead · 03/09/2013 12:33

External walls do make it cooler I agree. I feel the same in the summer though, can't bare it,I love 20 degrees and that's it!

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 03/09/2013 12:34

Anything above about 23 degrees has me lying on the floor asking to be put out of my sweaty misery.

RunFatGirlRun · 03/09/2013 12:37

Grin It's weird how much my feelings have changed - I was always counting off the days until autumn, much to everyone's annoyance...but I swear. We had -12 degrees here and money worried and no escape to an office, and at once point I remember crying and thinking "I can't remember what it's like not to be cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooold"

Now that we're not busted broke and I know a bit better what to expect from flipping Norfolk in January I am looking forward to it. Crisp walks on the cathedral lawn followed by hot chocolate and whatnot

I don't know why I'm posting since I can't make my mind up Confused

SirChenjin · 03/09/2013 12:49

Rather than wishing for a cold winter OP from the SW of England, why don't you move up here to Scotland? The NE gets it really bad. You too could have months of sub-zero temperatures, ice, fog, horizontal freezing rain, snow, sleet, sky high heating bills, long-awaited plans cancelled at the last minute because of the weather, public transport at a standstill, horrible driving conditions, an increase in hospital admissions, high demand for homeless shelters, school closures that you have to use valuable annual leave for or take unpaid leave, twice daily car scraping....

Oh yeah, winter's a fucking laugh a minute.

CheungFun · 03/09/2013 12:54

Nooooo! I've just learnt to drive and I will be terrified if I've got to drive in ice and or snow! A nice mild winter for me please Smile

Although it can snow Chrisas week as I've booked the week off work!
