To really want a cold, cold winter?

Just that really. I have enjoyed the summer, don't get me wrong, but I long for a proper winter. Christmas card scenes with snow and frozen ponds.

Erm didn't we have one last year? The 10 foot of snow we had suggests we did.....

BalloonSlayer · 03/09/2013 10:14

Remember when we were all moaning in July about the shops not having any summer stuff in when we all wanted it?

They listened and all the shops now have flip flops etc still in which is great for the fag-end of summer.

BUT I WANT BOOTS! BOOTS, YOU HEAR ME? BOOTS!

September is boots shopping time. And I am justified in getting some this year as my last year's ones have got a hole in them.

MissHC · 03/09/2013 10:15

No, no, no to a cold winter. DC1 due in November and I don't fancy having to sit in the house every day on mat leave because of snow/ice/etc.

SilverApples · 03/09/2013 10:16

I'm all for putting jojane in charge of the weather.

georgettemagritte · 03/09/2013 10:18

YABU - ended up spending over 200 pounds a month on heating to keep rickety old rental house warm enough for newborn last winter. Dry mild winter this year please!!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 03/09/2013 10:19

valium, I'm in the Big Smoke. Yes, we've had some nice hot weather, but it's been punctuated with too much rain and cold (there were cold spells in July and August and this week is no great shakes so far).

We didn't even have remotely pleasant weather, bar the odd day, until about June.

I'd like an actual summer, where it's warm and sunny, that runs fairly unbroken from about June to the middle/end of September. British weather is just too up and down.

TooMuchRain · 03/09/2013 10:21

YANBU, I love a short sharp winter with lots of snow - especially if I am on holiday and don't have to worry about how on earth to get to work

Latara · 03/09/2013 10:24

YABU - my gas bill is high enough thanks and i'm still waiting for my home to be insulated!

SoleSource · 03/09/2013 10:28

YABU second to poo, snow is the most disgusting substance on earth for us.

DS is blind and walking for him is out of the question especially on ice.

Tapirbackrider · 03/09/2013 10:30

Last winter was mild? Really? I'm up in Fife - the coldest night here was -18c. That's not mild, especially as I was out working in it. We had snow here right up to the middle of May!

A short sharp bit of winter, yes. Then nice and mild please. YABU

melika · 03/09/2013 10:31

no don't feel we have had enough sun yet, just had solar panels fitted, so another 2 months of good weather please!

PoopMaster · 03/09/2013 10:32

YANBU - we FINALLY bought a sled this spring and DD1 (2yo) will be big enough to go on it with me Smile

...though YABU as DD2 will only be 6mo and a right pita to cart around on slippery surfaces...

jacks365 · 03/09/2013 10:33

I seem to recall struggling through 5 foot deep snow drifts last year to get the dc to the bus to school or to get to the shops. The water supply is spring water so no comment on that. I could do with not repeating last year. The dc did get lots of practice at skiing so they enjoyed it at first but even they got fed up.

Owllady · 03/09/2013 10:33

I live rural and dread it being so bitter :(

GooseyLoosey · 03/09/2013 10:34

Cold would be fine, but not long. The last winter went on forever.

Owllady · 03/09/2013 10:35

and we have oil in the country, it's not like having gas where you pay for it (in most cases) afterwards. We have to pay upfront and it's expensive and some companies wont deliver in snow depending on the lane access
and then the electric goes off for hours at a time and the phone lines go down
it's bloody miserable

CatAmongThePigeons · 03/09/2013 10:35

It was really mild in my part of the SW, the moors had snow, but we didn't even have a frost, we are sheltered in my part. I miss the north of the County in winter, they had proper snow!

The rain can sod right orf tyvm.

HotCrossPun · 03/09/2013 10:37

Winter is by far my favourite season.

Coming home from work feels like such a treat. Its nice and dark outside, twinkly lights, soup, scarves, proper full length pyjamas, Christmas trees, etc.

Although this winter I will be very, very pregnant, so I'm hoping for a short one!

allmycats · 03/09/2013 10:38

Where do these people live who did NOT have a long, bitterly cold winter.
You can have what you want sparkly as long as you pay my gas bill and get my son from his home to work everyday in the Scottish Highlands.

Sparklymommy · 03/09/2013 10:39

Aaw, I am so jealous of all you that had snow last winter. I bought a sledge in November (because we had been promised snow). It is still unused. I'm not looking for a LONG winter, just a couple of weeks over Christmas and new year and then spring can come. I'm with jojane when it comes to the weather.

I don't want lives to be lost, just a decent wintry scene with hot stews, hot chocolate and comfy Jumpers!

It can snow on Christmas and Boxing Day and that's it! Yes it's gorgeous to look at, but getting out and about? Nope.

SoleSource · 03/09/2013 10:43

usual Grin

highlandbird · 03/09/2013 10:49

A cold crisp winter, great, less illness and less mud...a cold, COLD winter, no thanks, cba with weeks of no water and diesel freezing in car meaning I can't go out and in the generator meaning we can't have central heating on. Oh and ice on the inside of the windows in the morning, brrrrr!
YABU!

usualsuspect · 03/09/2013 10:51

It's a beautiful day here, is it cold in London today?

I'm in the Midlands.

NoComet · 03/09/2013 10:52

Proper snow when all our outside Christmas lights are up looks magic.

A couple of days with school shut at the end of Jan. when everyone is bored of being back is always appreciated.

Lots of drawn out cold, please no, my boiler drinks oil.

Also DD1 is doing GCSEs, so I'm honour bound to try to get her to school if it's open. Half hearted snow that disrupts the buses on our lanes, but not the main roads is a nightmare. Likewise DH can work from home if it's really bad.

3ft or more please!
