Chocolate cereal for breakfast is just wrong

Probably been done before ,however just saw an advert about a new and improved chocolate breakfast cereal.
Is chocolate for breakfast just wrong?

OP posts:

Choco shells from lidl are lovely munched on dry as a snack. Tbh no one eats them for breakfast here, it's snack food.

I usen't buy chocolate cereal but last year I just gave up and filed it in the 'too tired to maintain stance on' category.

It was a bit hypocritical of me anyway tbh... I grew up on coco pops Blush

currentbuns · 15/08/2013 18:55

Chinese style breakfasts are the worst, in my opinion. Congee with sliced meat and pickled vegetables, ugh. Chocolate is infinitely better

FreckleyGirlAbroad · 15/08/2013 19:00

Sirzy, are you my sister?? Coco pops only ever when in variety packs, closely tied with frosties and fought over on holiday. The appeal never carried through into adulthood though and would never buy them now though!!!

AhoyAhoy · 15/08/2013 19:03

I bought some Lidl Bran Flakes. A house guest bought some sugar puffs. My bran flakes contain more sugar.

seensomuch · 15/08/2013 19:05

no difference in calories than fruit and fibre cereals , not as stodgy as toast , more filling than fruit , cant see a problem with it tbh.

WillyandTig · 15/08/2013 19:05

Oooh I didn't realise it was so different Shock thanks sirzy

waterlego6064 · 15/08/2013 19:06

I LOVE the 'too tired to maintain stance on' category. I have that category, and now I have a name for it. Hooray!

Also loving the DCs who bathed in cereal on a sun lounger. How brilliantly indulgent.

My DCs like Bran Flakes and yes, I'm quite smug about that. They have chocolate cereal at Nanna's though. And white bread.

Emilythornesbff · 15/08/2013 19:07

currentbuns speaks the truth. I feel a bit sick now.

BrokenSunglasses · 15/08/2013 19:08

Yanbu.

Chocolate cereal is best eaten at around 9.00pm. By adults, not children.

Tweasels · 15/08/2013 19:09

Mmmmm coco-pops. You are being very unreasonable.

Platinumstart · 15/08/2013 19:11

I work on the basis that in 5 years I'll be worried about my kids doing crack and stealing litre bottles of absolute from the drinks cabinet. Chocolate cereal is fine Smile

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 15/08/2013 19:21

We all just had krave for tea, yabu! (Bit of a backwards day today...)

Fakebook · 15/08/2013 19:24

My dd asks for a teaspoon of hot chocolate mixed in her porridge sometimes. I don't mind chocolate cereal...we rarely buy it because its such a rip off. Last time I went to tesco, dd had a tantrum in the cereal section asking for chocolate shreddies (they cost something like £3.00). When I told her no and put them back an old woman gave me a disapproving glare like I was keeping her hungry. Very embarrassing.

cocolepew · 15/08/2013 19:28

I always had Coco Pops its the only way I would take milk. DD 1 has had a massive bowl of Coco Pops every morning for the past 10 years. DD 2 likes a bit more variety.

HeySoulSister · 15/08/2013 19:28

this is why our snacking culture exists....crappy high sugr food which doesn't leave anyone full for more than an hour

snacking is in part why our obesity culture now exists......can you see where this is leading?

HeySoulSister · 15/08/2013 19:29

and milk isn't so healthy either..

McNewPants2013 · 15/08/2013 19:31

Well for me it's the diffrence between DS starving until lunchtime( term time) or coco pops.

redexpat · 15/08/2013 19:34

Now i want cocopops and we don't have any in the house. Damn you.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/08/2013 19:48

agree

no need for choc pops/cherrios/crispies/weetabix etc for breakie

and as a nanny i dont give or buy

SpiceAddict · 15/08/2013 19:49

yanbu
I don't want my kids eating chocolate for breakfast. It is awful that the whole cereal aisle is full of this junk now.

IsThatTrue · 15/08/2013 19:56

Yanbu. My dcs have choc cereal at their dads, here they don't. 2/14 days is plenty tbh!

phantomnamechanger · 15/08/2013 20:14

milk isn't so healthy either? care to elaborate?

usualsuspect · 15/08/2013 20:21

YABU.

phantomnamechanger · 15/08/2013 20:22

for breakfast my DS will have either coco pops (dry but with a yoghurt separately) or else 2 choc chip brioche - maybe an apple too

mid morning - apple/pear/melon or kiwi

lunch - tuna and sweetcorn sarnie (with mayo but no marge)
some dried dates/apricots, another fresh fruit or pot of cucumber pepper and tomatoes, a chocolate biscuit eg club/kitkat

mid afternoon - fruit or crackers & cheese

dinner eg - new potatoes, salmon, peas and sweetcorn
tinned fruit/strawberries and ice cream

so, what's wrong with the sugary chocolatey cereal in the context of a healthy balanced diet. if he was stuffing crisps and sweets and processed ready meals and fizzy drinks all day I could see the problem.

Croissants and hot chocolate is a treat breakfast or supper for us all!

ThePosterBelowMeSucks · 15/08/2013 20:23

I had a bag of galaxy counters and two mini milkybars for breakfast today Blush
