Probably been done before ,however just saw an advert about a new and improved chocolate breakfast cereal.
Is chocolate for breakfast just wrong?

You're missing the point - honey is just sugar. If you are adding that to your porridge you are adding sugar. Fine if you like it but why do people think they are so superior for eating honey rather than the crap chocolate flavoured sugar they put on other cereals? It makes no sense. The porridge might be better for you, but adding honey adds nothing but calories and teeth rotting sugar.

Glad to have provided a service, EcclesCakes! Grin Think Terry's Chocolate Orange cereal. Mmmmm!

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 17/08/2013 17:57

But BigBoobiedBertha, honey is 'natural' and straight out of a bee's bottom and sugar is 'unnatural' and straight from some sugar cane or beet, oh, er...Confused

BigBoobiedBertha · 17/08/2013 18:09

'honey is 'natural' and straight out of a bee's bottom'

Grin

It probably shouldn't have done, but that did make me larf.

Sugar is sugar is sugar, bees bottom, cane or beet, it makes no difference. Smile

Actually honey is less processed than refined sugar but there we are. Porridge is more nutritious than coco pops. I dare you to deny it.

Toadinthehole · 18/08/2013 02:35

Sure, porridge and corn flakes are both cereals, but that's where the similarities end.

Apart from anything else, a bowl of corn flakes contains 3g of sugar per serving and that's before you add anything. (and salt too, for that matter).

Furthermore, porridge can be eaten without sugar. In Scotland, it is traditional to eat porridge unsweetened - strange, as IME Scots regard sugar like other nationalities regard rice or bread. DD2 eats her porridge with milk only, and that is her preference.

MummyPig24 · 18/08/2013 07:44

Mil gave the dcs a box of chocolate mini weetabix yesterday. So that's what they are having today. Dd almost always chooses weetabix plain with milk, which is good because she won't touch milk usually. Ds prefers something with a bit more variety, usually my fruit and fibre which probably has a bucket load of sugar. When the winter comes I will start making slow cooker porridge, but none of us will eat it unsweetened.

Emilythornesbff · 18/08/2013 07:45

Porridge should surely be served with cream and Demerara sugar or lyles golden syrup.

MusicalEndorphins · 18/08/2013 09:08

I admit I did used to buy some "junk" cereals as a treat for my children from time to time. They were not allowed to have it for breakfast, it was more of an after school snack.

I also confess... I loved Count Chocula and Lucky Charms cereals. To this day their sugary, chemically artificial, marshmallowly goodness beckon me I am tempted... (but I resist!) when I see them in the grocery store.

Crumbledwalnuts · 18/08/2013 09:12

I'd rather give the children boiled eggs. I used to get up to do mine a full cooked breakfast every morning for around 6.30, followed by a banana. Tbh once they'd eaten two eggs, bacon, mushrooms and toast (unrefined!) they could have anything they wanted.

Nacster · 18/08/2013 09:15

My kids talked me into buying Froot Loops this week. The buggers. I wamted Weetos.

We have the aforementioned evil yet gaily coloured loops, crunchy nut cornflakes, Special K for the 9 year old health nut, and a sadly neglected, unopened box of All Bran, for constipation emergencies. Grin Grin

PGRated · 18/08/2013 09:40

My DD loves coco pops and pop tarts.... She never wants them at breakfast time though.

Lavidaenrosa · 18/08/2013 10:22

My DH says YABU. Cocopops for breakfast for everyone!

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 18/08/2013 10:45

Coco pops for caravans and camping trips here.

ZingWantsCake · 18/08/2013 23:39

Emilythornesbff · 19/08/2013 06:59

That will be the first thing I eat tomorrow. Grin

Toadinthehole · 19/08/2013 08:16
