It's really really upset me, I've had some great support on this forum but I think I have to be off.

Such a shame.

But I hasten to add, it's late and I've had a glass (or two) of wine...

SinisterSal · 14/08/2013 22:47

Not really Mrs BW it's used differently in different contexts.

Nancy, just because you say so doesn't make it true. Being anti war and by extension anti military is a political perspective which has quite a long history.

Disagree, by all means. I do, on balance. But it's not laughable. None of this shit is, tbh.

MrsBW · 14/08/2013 22:47

Ah. Thank you for clarifying.

And for the apology.

MrsBW · 14/08/2013 22:48

To me, and many others, craic means 'good times'

But in sure that's no the context filee meant it in, I grant you.

Ilovemyself · 14/08/2013 22:49

Filee. Are you really that ignorant. Up until 50 years or so ago I would have said Protestant ( or at least Christian).

This is through 100's of years of tradition, and was the British way of life.

SinisterSal · 14/08/2013 22:52

No not always MrsBW it is definitely one of those things that depends on context

filee777 · 14/08/2013 22:52

I would say Britain is mostly atheist and its been a long time since it was a Christian majority, regardless we are so accepting of other cultures here that we would not be targeted based on religious beliefs.

OP posts:
Ilovemyself · 14/08/2013 22:58

Filee. You have really outdone yourself. We would not be targeted based on religious beliefs. What do you think the terrorists that attack us believe. The issue is that they think that our way of life is not compatible with their religious views.

And up until the mid to late 70's we were still a country of a Christian majority.

Nancy66 · 14/08/2013 23:26

Sinister Sal, I didn't say that being a pacifist was laughable, I said that the OP's understanding of certain historical facts is.

SpecialAgentCuntSnake · 15/08/2013 01:23

Filee I'm 95% with you.

Just wanted you to know there are many people who do agree, most of my and DH's family hold very similar views.

filee777 · 15/08/2013 07:03

Actually our culture is very multicultural, we accept people from all religions into our country and that has protected us far more than sending bombs abroad

I can't really see now anyone can think that sending bombs and ground soldiers abroad can do anything but make people hate us really.

It takes 30 years (apparently) for a country to heal from a regime change, so why not let the change come from within them, support them with that and get on with our own affairs?

There are countries far far less secular than ours who don't jump boot-first into every issue they take a fancy to and they are not targets either.

That pretty much exactly how I felt when my old school friends signed up in droves. Not much left to do in old Amesbury.

Thanks for sharing it with me.

Dear Ladies,

IMHO if child abuse had been carried out by anyone on the arsse website or in the military, the only covering-up would be to shield the guys who gave the paedo the good kicking he deserved before the police find him.
Not everyone posting on that site is forces or ex-forces. However those who have served or are serving are better at identifying the walts than civvies.
If you visit the site, do not believe everything you read (I dont!)
If you find the thread you visit amusing then read on. If not then stop.
Squaddie humour is very much gallows humour so it is bound to offend someone.
ARRSE is cathartic for squaddies & ex-squaddies as this site is for it´s users. My wife also finds some posts there very amusing.

Regards
ECE-tech (Username on ARRSE if any of you wish to check it out.)

And what about rape? What about abuse to women?

You seem to have missed that in your 'disclaimer'

Aww. I feel like I have done something naughty.

LumpyJumper84 · 19/08/2013 22:01

Filee, I have to ask this but what is your back ground and how old are you ?

You started off sounding hysterical(threatening to leave/unable to eat after reading words) expecting people to back you up.

When they didn't, you have tried another tack which is to make sweeping uninformed offensive opinions about the armed forces which again make you sound hysterical.

Everyone has an opinion, it's just yours is based on nothing apart from feeling thats how things are.

I find you grossly offensive in both your tone and lack of knowledge.
