It's really really upset me, I've had some great support on this forum but I think I have to be off.

Such a shame.

LtEveDallas, you have stated your thoughts clearly and calmly. There has been no drama, no hyperbole. Please know I support you and all persons in the forces who have done their job with dignity and integrity.

That there. What I wanted to say but put way more eloquently in that single post there. If ONLY the OP had a tenth of the integrity, subject knowledge, patience and good grace of LtEve then I might be able to walk away from this now knowing it had been worth the reading.

Well said.

HighJinx · 14/08/2013 19:25

Good post TheTurdsOfMisery

I don't know I would say I've been pretty patient, where this idea of some sort of hysterical ranting has come from, I don't know, I've done nothing of the sort, I also haven't had to resort to personal attacks, I have a bit more faith in my arguments than that.

There is most certainly a shroud of secrecy around what the military do, it is why the majority of people in this country cl the armed forces 'heroes' whilst the rest of the world call them 'terrorists'

Oh what goady bollocks and you know it.

Sorry you got upset, I sent mumsnet towers an email yesterday about posters who are borderline racist who object to posters with ethnic sounding names and generally vicious,
It's a shame because it is supposed to be a support site mainly aimed but not exclusive to parents, not supposed to be a fight club, your obviously a sensitive caring person which to some people is like a red rag to a bull.

LtEveDallas · 14/08/2013 19:46

Thank you all. I try to stay calm when it is a subject close to my heart, ranting and raving (whilst making me feel better Smile) detracts from the discussion and runs the risk of turning people off. Sometimes a well placed WANKER! is appropriate, but not often Grin

YouStayClassySanDiego · 14/08/2013 19:49

LtEve you've been dignified, sensitive and worth listening to.

LtEveDallas, I support everything you say and thank you for doing a job I wouldn't be able to.

I'm exceptionally proud to have been the daughter of a RSM who served in numerous theatres of operation including Northern Ireland (as the son of an Irish Catholic and a Catholic himself he managed to conduct himself appropriately, as of course do most members of the armed forces).

Burmobasher · 14/08/2013 19:57

Yes, great informative posts lteve thanks

Ghanagirl · 14/08/2013 19:59

Beertricks I've experienced patronising comments and "not you again" comments told I don't understand the culture when posting, I'm not actually from Ghana but even if I was it shouldn't generate such hostility, and I'm def not being over sensitive Confused

Amrapaali · 14/08/2013 20:02

Really Ghanagirl?! That's sick! Shock

glenthebattleostrich · 14/08/2013 20:19

LtEve, can I just say thank you. You are the sort of person I am proud to support.

Having spoken to some of my friends / relatives in the military, they are disgusted by the attitude of some on here. Yes they choose to join the military but they do a hell of a lot of good.

started a major post listing the good my family and friends have done in war zones and in other places but you know what, the OP won't listen. She is just a bigot who only believes her own vitriol.

I'm hiding this thread now, just popped back to say thanks to LtEve and all those who on here who are military / have family in the military. I think the majority do an amazing job.

filee777 · 14/08/2013 20:21

How am I a bigot?

OP posts:
Tiredemma · 14/08/2013 20:22

Great posts LtEve.

Thank you for all that you do.

Ghanagirl · 14/08/2013 20:22

Amarapaali it's just boring when people judge on culture race perceived or otherwise very boring!

Amrapaali · 14/08/2013 20:23

Because she speaks out against war and its attendant horrors? Hmm

filee777 · 14/08/2013 20:29

That's the thing, I can understand people disagreeing with me, but how can you have such hatred for someone who is anti war and death? Doesn't that strike you all as a strange reason to hate? It's weird.

OP posts:
Ghanagirl · 14/08/2013 20:30

How is OP a bigot to be upset by people boasting about raping and defiling women and children? It's called being civilised

LtEveDallas · 14/08/2013 20:34

Bigotry is the state of mind of a bigot: someone who, as a result of their prejudices, treats other people with hatred, contempt, or intolerance.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 14/08/2013 20:35

If she had left it at the door of aarse and the knuckle dragging missing links who post there sh e might have had more support, might you think?

Instead she dragged anyone who wears a military uniform into it and tarred them all with the same brush.

filee777 · 14/08/2013 20:38

I don't treat anyone with hatred or contempt, nobody.

OP posts:
YouStayClassySanDiego · 14/08/2013 20:40

I don't know you, let alone hate youConfused

I just find your insistence that all military personnel are guilty or complicit in committing atrocities completely bewildering.
