It's really really upset me, I've had some great support on this forum but I think I have to be off.

Such a shame.

OP posts:
MrsWilberforce · 14/08/2013 20:41

I don't see any sign of bigotry or vitriol in the OP's posts.

Spikeytree · 14/08/2013 20:43

Exactly, YouStay. The comments on the threads linked are horrid, but in no way indicative of the behaviour of the majority of the armed forces. It was in my local paper today that a teacher had been arrested for sexual offences against young boys in his care. Does that mean that therefore all teachers are paedophiles?

I think most people are capable of finding the behaviour of some people abhorrent without tarring everyone who shares that profession with the same brush. OP isn't capable of this, so is either displaying bigotted, or just plain stupid, behaviour.

Ghanagirl · 14/08/2013 20:44

Love the fact some posters more concerned about perceived bigotry of poster, than actual woman and children being raped and abused

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/08/2013 20:47

A couple of thoughts, filee. Firstly most rapists/psychopaths are seen as individuals not as members of any particular group, whereas those from within the armed forces have this one thing in common - so they are identified as Armed Forces rapists - they are almost unique in this regard. No-one has lumped tower all the factory workers who are psychopaths or rapists, but I suspect if they did, it would be a similar percentage -possibly higher because, as LtEveDallas says, army recruits are tested to try to filter out such character traits.

Secondly, when terrorists say they are bombing western cities because of US/GB armed forces actions abroad, they may well be lying to justify their terrorist atrocities!.

Ask yourself this - does blowing up innocent civilians make them reliable and trustworthy witnesses?. I don't think it does, hence I would not give much weight to their justifications of their atrocities.

filee777 · 14/08/2013 20:48

Oh they are also more interested in blindly defending the forces too GhanaGirl, we should feel sorry, very sorry for the poor soldiers who are given a bad name by the behaviour of some of them, but we should ignore the atrocities going on in our name.

Then I am told that my views are 'bewildering' which, in context, is bizarre!

Amrapaali · 14/08/2013 20:54

"all military personnel are guilty or complicit in committing atrocities "

WHERE did she say that?

YouStayClassySanDiego · 14/08/2013 20:59

8.10 and around 11.30 this morning.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 14/08/2013 21:00

I'm off, night all.

filee777 · 14/08/2013 21:01

I didn't ever say that.

I can't believe someone has cited a civilians attitude towards the military as coloured because they might have been blown up by them

That's the point!

LeGavrOrf · 14/08/2013 21:02

This is an interesting thread, want to add my appreciation to lteve for her informative and interesting posts.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/08/2013 21:04

No filee - I was asking if blowing up innocent civilians in a terrorist attack is a sign of a trustworthy and honest personality who wouldn't lie about their motivations.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 14/08/2013 21:05

I don't normally comment on these threads, but Lt Eve, I have to say your posts have been eloquent and informative. Thanks.

HighJinx · 14/08/2013 21:08

we should feel sorry, very sorry for the poor soldiers who are given a bad name by the behaviour of some of them, but we should ignore the atrocities going on in our name

This is what I find bewildering. Why is it not possible for people to feel very sorry for the soldiers who are given a bad name by the behaviour of a small minority AND for the people who are victims of the atrocities? I think it is terrible when anyone, anywhere is raped. I also think that some of our armed forces bloody well are heroes.

I also think there is a need to differentiate between a country's foreign policy and the work of its military personnel.

HighJinx · 14/08/2013 21:09

Anyway I'm off too.

Thanks LtEve for your calm and informative posts and for the work that you do.

Boreoff · 14/08/2013 21:12

Lteve, thank you. Some sense at last.

Amrapaali · 14/08/2013 21:19

What a country's military get up to is a direct corollary of that country's foreign policy. How can you differentiate the two? Do you mean the Forces go off on peace keeping jaunts whenever and wherever it suits them?

This thread is at a point where opinions are going round in the same loops. You might as well sign off, filee.

Ilovemyself · 14/08/2013 21:30

Filee777. I thought you were leaving.......

You have said you have not shown hatred to anyone. Yet you have said the armed forces is full of rapist and murders.

You think that there is some sort of conspiracy that hides everything military away. It's not a conspiracy. It's called national security and we have it to stop those that wish our country harm for having an easy time of it.

It is sad that you have to believe everything you read on the Internet. Whether it is the crap some of the people post on Arsse, the facts you have run off to find to support your views, or some of the clap trap people have posted on this thread.

And to say that the AF should be encouraged to question orders just shows your lack of understanding of how a military force needs to work. If every squaddie thought about their orders and potentially question them the forces would fall apart.

LtEve. I have to say that for a pongo you do make a calm and eloquent debater. You are the voice of reason in a thread that seems to have shown how some people should never be allowed near the Internet for fear of believing every little word they read.

LtEveDallas · 14/08/2013 21:39

Thank you again all. It's nice to be appreciated whether for my words or my actions. It gladdens me that I have earned your support in this way - long may it continue Grin. Makes putting my boots on less of a chore tonight.

MrsBW · 14/08/2013 21:45

LtEve

Don't get too big headed. You're not 'all that'

It's the WAGS that are the real 'heroes' Smile

Just joking

Thank you. Your work is valued and appreciated by some.

LtEveDallas · 14/08/2013 21:47

Hehehe Grin Truth be told I was always more scared of the RSMs wife than the RSM - she held the most power!

MrsBW · 14/08/2013 21:50

You'd better believe it...

From an RSM's wife Grin

LtEveDallas · 14/08/2013 21:51
Shock Grin
filee777 · 14/08/2013 22:02

I don't believe everything I read on the Internet, my views are mainly forged by people I know who have served in the armed forces and also the opinions of problem I have met abroad.

This ridiculous notion that anyone who thinks differently to you is 'stupid and ignorant' is really awful, how arrogant must you be.

OP posts:
MrsBW · 14/08/2013 22:07

And yet, earlier in this thread, you called me 'dense' for daring to disagree with you?

Ilovemyself · 14/08/2013 22:15

Pmsl. I think that I just called arrogant.

Your still here then lol
