Aibu to ask my dh to stop making us look like we're trashy

Just moved to a very quiet village in a street with rows of cottages. All you can hear is sheep in the distance, maybe the odd church bell.
I'm quite a quiet person anyway and although my two young children can be noisy, they're in bed by 8.
My dh on the other hand, likes to play his music in the garage while he's
'Sorting it out' with main garage door open in to the street. It's not really really loud but its louder than I feel comfortable with! I've told him before about this and its caused stupid arguments. He can't see what my problem is. I don't like the way as soon as we move in, I feel everyone else's peace and quiet is possibly being ruined by this. I just don't get why the garage door has to be open, making it easier for everyone to hear
The music and see what he's up to in there and people can see all our stuff! (Just moved so a lot of our belongings are in there)
He's also taken to sitting on the wall outside our house with a pint. This embarrasses me. Why?

God your snobby, your dh on the other hand sounds lovely.

Justforlaughs · 08/08/2013 21:06

Buy him some headphones, my DH was the same until I bought him some. Now, bliss!

Doubtfuldaphne · 08/08/2013 21:07

Just to be clear, the house is on a quiet street with car park in front . The wall is over the street as a border for the car park. Don't know if that changes anything really!

Wouldn't have a problem with the pint of beer, my DH used to sit in the garden with a pint in one hand and the garden hose in the other - he may as well do something useful Grin

WorraLiberty · 08/08/2013 21:08

Mrs Bucket, is that you? Grin

maddening · 08/08/2013 21:08

How loud does it sound in the street? Would it be annoying neighbours?

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom · 08/08/2013 21:09

Wouldn't have an issue with the pint. But loud music outside in a quiet area is rude. You close the door, have headphones or keep it down.

quoteunquote · 08/08/2013 21:10

he needs wireless headphones.

dexter73 · 08/08/2013 21:10

Does he keep his top on when he is drinking on his wall?

lborolass · 08/08/2013 21:11

I'd be embarrassed too, why is it snobby to be considerate to the neighbours?

KurriKurri · 08/08/2013 21:13

No problem with him sitting having a pint, or with people seeing into your garage.
Playing loud music at night when other may be trying to sleep/read/watch TV etc is selfish.

I would concentrate on trying to get him to change the selfish behaviour, and forget about the other stuff. If you present him with a huge list of 'everything he does is wrong' he'll switch off, mentally file it all under nagging and ignore you.
Just fight the important battles.

ENormaSnob · 08/08/2013 21:16

I think we share a dh Grin

SisterMatic · 08/08/2013 21:16

Hello bouquet residence!

SuckAtRelationships · 08/08/2013 21:17

what time does he play the music til? Thats the only thing that would bother me... If you are talking about day time YABU

LEMisdisappointed · 08/08/2013 21:18

I don't knwo what this has to do with snobbery - its about being considerate surely.

WorraLiberty · 08/08/2013 21:18

I'd be embarrassed too, why is it snobby to be considerate to the neighbours?

The OP seems more concerned about appearing 'trashy', than concerned for the neighbours.

Blu · 08/08/2013 21:18

I'd be fine with the pint but not the music.

Scrubber · 08/08/2013 21:19

Dh does this and I get fed up with it too. Any time we're in the garden or he is in the garage, the music goes on really loud. I feel sorry for lie neighbors but there's no telling him. I like silence better.

Doubtfuldaphne · 08/08/2013 21:19

I'm concerned mostly because I know the neighbours are all snobs and they might complain to our letting agents. I've moved house so many times in my life I just don't want this one to go wrong :(

OP posts:
Blu · 08/08/2013 21:20

As one of your neighbours, that is.
Can't bear being obliged to listen to soeone else's music for long periods. Very intrusive.

Crumbledwalnuts · 08/08/2013 21:20

I'd be embarrassed too, and you're right to be concerned about the neighbours peace and quiet. The loud music and unnecessarily open garage door does sound trashy.

Doubtfuldaphne · 08/08/2013 21:21

Glad I'm not alone scrubber!
The music's on now. I feel that's a bit late but being a musician aswell he quotes the musicians union guidelines saying 'there's nothing they can do. You're allowed until 11pm'!!
Then he gets really cross!

OP posts:
Leeds2 · 08/08/2013 21:22

It would annoy me like hell. From either my OH or my neighbours!

Would prefer OH not to be sat on the wall drinking a pint, although it wouldn't annoy me if the neighbours were.

Thisisaeuphemism · 08/08/2013 21:24

He doesn't look trashy. He sounds inconsiderate. I'd be pissed off with the music thing too.

Famzilla · 08/08/2013 21:24

Hahaha.

Wireless headphones for Christmas?
