To think that parents that smoke near their DC should be prosecuted....

If you forced a child to eat/drink a carcenogenic substance you would be arrested. But just because the poison comes from a licenced, taxed product then this seems to be perfectly acceptable.

Lung disease is too common in children of smokers and yet the authorities do fuck all about the cause.

Also parents of obese children should be prosecuted for abuse. It is the parents fault that their offspring are fat. Recently a 10 yr old girl weighed in at 24stone!!!!!! Now the NHS/SS will have to pick up the tab for getting this poor child back to a healthy weight.

I have 3DC all have a healthy relationship with food, exercise and their bodies. Its not fucking rocket science.

@LuisSuarezTeeth

Actually no, I said that the OP started a goady thread and then fucked off. Ever so slightly different. If I had told op to fuck off then I would quite rightly be deleted and accept graciously. Sorry to split hairs.

Ah, in fact you are right. We apologise. You were right to split hairs.

You said, "I would like to prosecute OPs that post goady threads then fuck off."

That's still a smidgeonette of a personal attack, though.

Hi

Actually I didnt 'fuck off' ..... I went to work. Sorry, dont have internet at my job.

Oh dear I do seem to have stirred up a bit of a hornets nest. Grin

I presume that the majority of people who seem to 'hate me' are smokers.

It has been a well known fact for many years now that cigarette smoke is extremely damaging to the health of any one who inhales it either 1st or 2nd hand and if you are addicted and inconsiderate enough to have to subject innocent healthy children to the residue of your foul addiction then Yes I do think that you should suffer the consequences. Whether that includes prosecution or other action then that is up for debate but no one in their right and sane mind could advocate forcing young humans to inhale this shit?

As for fat kids then it is a simple case of not letting them eat too much fatty crap and get more exercise. They dont go out and buy the food each week its the parents so stop having it in the house and they will stop eating it.

Yes I am a MANCHESTER CITY fan and have been for 40 years and bloody proud of it. I am also proud of my kids being so healthy and fit.

Just readjusting the old flame proof suit and helmet........ there all adjusted and comfy...... Ready!

I think you are right op. Most of the people attacking you probably are smokers so they will always argue with your point of view. I do see where you are coming from. I had a similar conversation with dh recently. We watched a couple loading their shopping into their car with two young dc sat in the back. Then both of them lit up cigarettes jumped in the car and drove off.

I see a mum of three get out of her car every morning at school. She always has a cigarette in her hand. Her poor dc absolutely stink. I think smoking in cars with children should be made illegal.

You always get the comparisons to other things on these threads in an attempt to validate smoking. Food, toothpaste etc etc all have carcinogens and so on. All things that have another benefit. Food to, you know, feed us and toothpaste to keep our teeth clean. What's the benefit of smoking around children that balances out the carcinogens? And the usual EXHAUST FUUUUUMES gets trotted out too. A parent can't avoid pollution from other people's cars etc in day to day life but they can avoid smoking and adding extra damage on top. I don't agree with the OP that smokers should be prosecuted but I do think its wrong to smoke if you have children.

It's perfectly fine to be proud of your children being fit and healthy, it's something to aspire to, -my kids are the same- as is not smoking (am down to one in the morning, one at night, neither around the DC's... Smug me Grin)
But we do not have the capacity to prosecute this for a start, there's no way of policing it, especially at home, and how would it fit in legally with Human Rights etc?
Although I think HCP can intervene if a child is dangerously obese can't they or have I made it up?
Still judging you for a City fan... Up The Clarets Grin Grin

I don't snore Westie

I don't smoke either. I'll have to pretend. I still think the notion of prosecuting parents is ill conceived.

i do agree that one should not smoke in the vicinity of DC. And I think anyone that smokes indoors or in a car with DC is, whilst strictly speaking acting legally, should be made to undertake lab tests in place of beagles.

Hmm..my son is autistic and has a terrible relationship with food. He will eat dry pasta, dry porridge oats and frozen bread in the absence of anything else.

He os overweight and I am currently waiting to see a paediatric dietician (and locking certain foods in a box).

But possibly my prosecution would solve everything. ..why didnt I think of that?

I don't smome though. ...do I get time deducted for "good behaviour" ...please Grin

OP I think it is unreasonable to prosecute people smoking around children on policy grounds ie difficult to enforce.
However I agree that smoking around children constitutes abuse. People are aware of the risks to health of smoking AND passive smoking. And these risks are scientifically researched and proven. Therefore to continue doing it is reckless endangering of life.

But yes, smoking near children is wrong I agree. Smoking in the house/car certainly constitutes abuse if children are present.

Overweight children is far more complex though. You clearly have a healthy lifestyle and healthy children, OP. All credit to you.
