If you forced a child to eat/drink a carcenogenic substance you would be arrested. But just because the poison comes from a licenced, taxed product then this seems to be perfectly acceptable.

Lung disease is too common in children of smokers and yet the authorities do fuck all about the cause.

Also parents of obese children should be prosecuted for abuse. It is the parents fault that their offspring are fat. Recently a 10 yr old girl weighed in at 24stone!!!!!! Now the NHS/SS will have to pick up the tab for getting this poor child back to a healthy weight.

I have 3DC all have a healthy relationship with food, exercise and their bodies. Its not fucking rocket science.

No its not as severe a form of abuse as rape, violence etc but it most definately is a form of abuse. It can cause severe health problems that at the worst can kill! the health problems can last a lifetime but while the government are making money out of it they wont do a thing.

I do have some forthright views and I'm not ashamed to express them. I was under the impression that this was a place for debate etc and not a place for insulting people jst because you disagree with them.

Personally I would ban cigarettes and alcohol totally. I would also tax meat, dairy products, high fat snacks and sweets very highly and use the revenue to subsidise fruit and veg.

I could rant on for ages but I have to go to for a run before I go to work.

Why would you tax meat and dairy products? It's important for people to have access to good, affordable quality protein. Good quality meat that hasn't been intensively reared is already out of reach for a lot of people, as is grass fed butter and organic milk. How would cheap fruit and veg help people if they can't afford decent meat and dairy?

It wouldn't, they would just be filling up on carbs and that won't exactly help the obesity problem. Fruit, veg an carbs is not a healthy diet.

Young children need full fat dairy products. We had to keep my DD on full fat milk on the advice of a paed until she was 7. So you'd tax that highly and make it more expensive for me to feed her?

I think the consumption of all the bread and processed high carb food such as white flour is one of the reasons behind the obesity epidemic. Dairy and meat are not the bed guys here.

If you're going to tax dairy products very highly, then where does that leave formula milk?

City - we were told by a consultant paediatrician to put her on full fat milk as she needed to get as many calories as possible. Are you seriously trying to tell me that paed was talking utter rubbish?

fwiw my ds suffers from a respiratory disease which is directly related to air pollution- and I don't think we're talking cigarette smoke here. But apparently I can't be a responsible parent because I am not adding to his problems.

CityTiliDie, I don't appreciate people trying to push their own dietary choices on to me and my family. If you choose a vegan diet then that's great. Personally I would rather hack my fingers off with a blunt meat cleaver.

I'll stick to my free range chicken, venison and grass fed butter thank you very much. I had a stint of being vegan and nearly died of boredom. Mixing the fat from meat and dairy with processed carbs is what causes problem. The fat from good quality meat and dairy is actually very healthy, just Google the paleo diet. We were never meant to eat grains, certain fruits and pulses.

The fact that you would try and dictate where people get their protein from is frankly disturbing. So, you're vegan, good for you, but you should stop bitching about what's in other people's kitchens.

Why is it everyone I know who is tyrannical in their views of what other people should and shouldn't do and consume is a ruddy vegan? I had to block a FB acquaintance when he ranted on about how he would make eating eat illegal 'when he got into power' and then went off ranting about how unfair it is that we are RULED by the Royal Family. Hypocrisy at it's most manic. He got very offended when I told him I thought he was egotistical and forcing a minority viewpoint on a majority - just couldn't see it.
I am sure not all vegans are like this, just the ones I seem to stumble across...
