To think that parents that smoke near their DC should be prosecuted....

If you forced a child to eat/drink a carcenogenic substance you would be arrested. But just because the poison comes from a licenced, taxed product then this seems to be perfectly acceptable.

Lung disease is too common in children of smokers and yet the authorities do fuck all about the cause.

Also parents of obese children should be prosecuted for abuse. It is the parents fault that their offspring are fat. Recently a 10 yr old girl weighed in at 24stone!!!!!! Now the NHS/SS will have to pick up the tab for getting this poor child back to a healthy weight.

I have 3DC all have a healthy relationship with food, exercise and their bodies. Its not fucking rocket science.

While I don't like people smoking around children it is legal to do so. As you know the right to smoke trumps a childs/or anyone elses right to fresh clean air

If you forced a child to eat/drink a carcenogenic substance you would be arrested.

I find that ^ quite interesting since you aren't arrested for animal abuse if you feed it to your dog. It's even in some of the most TV promoted brands of dog food. Friends dd has even eaten some out of their dogs bowl while she wasn't looking...

Oh dear. Smoking and junk food aren't great and ideally parents wouldn't expose their dc to them, but do you realise how many substances are carcinogenic?

It's not as though being a non smoker and not giving your dc crisps makes someone an excellent parent by default.

The OP might also like to cast their mind back to the 1970s when everyone smoked. Seriously, I don't smoke and I don't like it, but we have a whole generation who grew up with smoking parents who were fundamentally good, loving people.

Never done this before, but Biscuit

If all these terrible awful parents were in jail then you would no longer be the perfect parent, you would be a mere normal parent, and you wouldn't have anyone to look down your nose at, I don't think you thought this through properly op.

I feel sad to think that my parents would have, in your bubble, been prosecuted. What would have happened to me? they were a bit shit but they did love me and still do. Should I be retrospectively sueing them or demanding they are arrested and charged?

My parents would have been prosecuted too! I don't have any lung problems and I'm not obese.

i have chronic breathing probs because of parents smoking. i never have smoked. have to use an inhaler for rest of my life.

agree with the obesity thing.

SOMETHING should be done about smoking and even drinking when with young children so see the ops point.

op could perhaps have worded it better but get the general point of it.

id like to stuff the fags down people throats who smoke around MY dc (IE- they come and sit on same park bench as us and dont even ask if its ok to smoke there- and we end up moving away).

if smokers want to fill their lungs with it thats up to them but passive smoking is just off. especially around children.( i knew a mum who would put her baby on floor to change it while having a fag hanging out of her mouth so not only smoke but ash going into babys face.)

Roy Castle springs to mind.

i knew a mum who would put her baby on floor to change it while having a fag hanging out of her mouth so not only smoke but ash going into babys face This is not really common any more though is it. I know many parents that smoke and none of them smoke in the house or in the car (even when their children aren't in it).

What does the OP mean by 'near'? Should we arrest parent for smoking within 1 meter, 5 meters outside? It's just total nonsense. I'm more concerned with arresting the parents who are starving and mentally and physically abusing their children than this load of goady old bollocks.

I think people who smoke around me should be prosecuted.

Just kidding - but, actually, it does bother me. The smell makes me feel incredibly sick, and there is something selfish about someone coming up and smoking next to you.

VoiceofRaisin I think that - banning smoking in cars with children - has been done in some states in the US IIRC.

Right, I'm going to prosecute my fucking kids. Bastards smoke next to me polluting my lungs. FFS.
Is that ok OP? huh huh?
Little shits started smoking at university. I'm going to prosecute them too.

Then I'm going to prosecute car drivers pumping out carbon monoxide. The opportunities are endless.....

Is Benefit Bashing season over already?? That was quick...
Nah, that was just Benefit Bashing season Part 1, Part 2 will be along shortly.

It seems to go in cycles - having a go at people on benefits, 'I hate dogs', 'smokers are the scum of the earth' and a bit of cat poo thrown in occasionally, just for variety.

Ever give your kids apples or apple juice OP? If so, you should be prosecuted for attempted murder.

"If you forced a child to eat/drink a carcenogenic substance you would be arrested."

Why have there been no arrests over the horse meat treated with carcinogenic substances, unfit for human consumption then?

Children and vulnerable adults (in hospitals, residential care etc) were given it.

As well as said, all of the additives that are banned in other countries that we allow.

BrokenSunglasses · 07/08/2013 11:53

Absolutely!

Lets also prosecute parents that don't cover their kids in factor 50 every day from May through to September, and those who ever give their children crisps or sweets, and the ones who don't ensure their children eat a variety of five fruit and veg every single day, and don't forget those bastards that let their secondary schoolers have a sip of champagne at special events.

I agree prosecute us all, I could do with a break from the teenagers, a bit of time in jail might be easier than being here in the holiday. My poor teenagers will be better off in care, I mean I gave them fish and chips for dinner last night and I just sent my son to the shop he has to walk down a pollution filled main road, I really should keep them in a bubble.

OP anybody who gives their dc sugar free products is most likely giving them a carcinogenic substance in the form of Aspartame.
The WHO has been trying to have it removed from all food groups since the 1970's, but nobody cares.

Smoking near? depends how you want to define this. Ok smoking in an enclosed area with dc is bad, in the house car etc. 10 paces from the house is recommended, this is still near and quite often in view of your kids.

Can we please expand the prosecutions to people that wear Lynx and other noisome products?

*I would certainly be prosecuted on the smoking front btw.
