To think they've ruined Dr Who by not casting someone young and hot?

I mean, why else would I want to watch it?!

YABU!

Dr Who isn't supposed to be sexy anyway.

I mean, Tom Baker, Patrick Troughton, Peter Davison in fact were any of them prior to it's relaunch a few years ago 'hot'? No.

The Doctor is supposed to be quirky. Not fit.

livinginwonderland · 05/08/2013 07:29

YABVU. I was so happy when they said it was Peter.

My friend is now refusing to watch it, though Hmm

Damn, my money was on Michael Caine....

I loved PC in Local Hero. Think it`s quite sad that people would rather have a "good looking" Dr than one who can act! (Although PC both to me!) Anyone remember Alan Bleasedale's GBH? Was he in that, or did I imagine it?

MissBeehiving · 05/08/2013 07:59

Much prefer PC as he can actually act rather well.

I would love to see a female Doctor though but then I suppose that judging by the reactions on this thread that many people wouldn't watch it because of that Sad

Latara · 05/08/2013 08:18

YANBU, Peter Capaldi is not hot at all.

Flobbadobs · 05/08/2013 08:21

So he isn't young but I would argue hot!! Becasue I would, then go back in time and do him again... Grin
Anyway the whole point of casting him was casting an established actor I think rather than a cute face who has been in a couple of things.
A young Doctor yet again would have killed the series imo.
YABU.

Eyesunderarock · 05/08/2013 08:25

I may start watching again, I sort of lost interest in the Matt Smith years.
I agree that with the current slant that Dr Who has taken, a female doctor would not work for much of the fanbase as the lust factor seems to be a huge requirement, unlike the Doctors of old.
Perhaps PC can reverse that up to a point and they'll concentrate on fabulous scripts and less angsty hair-flopping and babbling.

Wine0clock · 05/08/2013 09:47

Diddl, what's sad to me is that every time they cast an older man in such a high profile role it rubs it in that men are allowed to age. Men are allowed to grow older. And I wouldn't object to that if his side kick weren't still a young thing. He's 55 isn't he? well if his female side kick ins't at least 20 years younger than he is then I'll eat my hat. THAT is what makes me sad.

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 05/08/2013 09:54

Casting another young hottie wouldn't have done the show's credibility any favours. Peter Capaldi is an fantastic actor and I'm really excited to see what dynamic he brings to the Doctor.

I don't need to fancy anyone in a tv show to appreciate it.

BadgersNadgers · 05/08/2013 09:56

Are some of you actually suggesting that the lanky bo' selecta puppet Matt Smith is fit and that you'd want to shag him?

DangerousBeanz · 05/08/2013 10:06

YABVVU he'll be amazing, he's an amazing actor and he'll make the role his own.
I'm really excited for the next series now.

Eyesunderarock · 05/08/2013 10:14

Before Dr Who became a lustfest, he was often more of an eccentric uncle type. The first Dr Who was addressed as Grandfather by his assistant.
Pertwee and Baker were never objects of desire by their companions, unless I was too young to pick up on the dynamics.
I thought Ecclestone and Tennant were interesting twists on the character, but I got a bit weary of the crushes and pashes.
I'm going to be relieved if the dynamics change. I like a good yarn, excellent acting and a bit of serious terror.

diddl · 05/08/2013 12:02

" well if his female side kick ins't at least 20 years younger than he is then I'll eat my hat. THAT is what makes me sad."

Well if the fans didn't seem to clamour for some sort of romance between the Dr & his assistant, maybe that could be avoided!

ComposHat · 05/08/2013 12:10

the majority of actors to play Doctor Who have been older men! Matt Smith/David Tennant were the excrptions.

plus Capaldi being older has a big enough body of work behind him to avoid being typecast after he finishes.

hamab · 05/08/2013 12:15

Yes and Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker were so hot weren't they! As for Patrick Troughton. Actually I think Peter is very attractive, not to mention he's a great actor. It's all a bit ageist to insist Dr Who's a young person.

Saffyz · 05/08/2013 12:43

Yes and Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker were so hot weren't they!

Agree - the "hot" thing is a recent addition.

MadeOfStarDust · 05/08/2013 12:49

not everyone's cork is popped by young and hot you know..... some of us like a more distinguished man - and the novelty of having someone who can act in the role (not since Ecclestone) ... mmm might have to start watching again

Lottapianos · 05/08/2013 12:51

IMVHO Matt Smith is the best Doctor ever and utterly luscious but I think Peter Capaldi will do a fab job. He's a terrific actor so he will be great and it's nice to have a change from a younger bloke. Not as nice as if the new Doctor had been a woman but ho hum, maybe next time

Not seeing the erotic appeal at all though Hmm But then again, I used to think the Benedict Cumberbatch fanciers were off their nuts. Then I saw him host HIGNFY one time and soon after I watched all of Sherlock. Now just the thought of him makes me ovulate Wink

Arnie123 · 05/08/2013 12:53

Peter is far hotter than Matt Smith. Smith has a giant boney skull.

Arnie123 · 05/08/2013 12:54

At school kids used to call him Bend My Dick Cucumber Patch.

minouminou · 05/08/2013 13:48

Tchoh.

Not that I watch Doctor Who....but I'm imagining Roger "Peter Manyum" Allam as the Dr now.
That'd be ace.
With Joanna Scanlan (Terri in TTOI) as his assistant.

PedantMarina · 05/08/2013 14:04

Re: last night's show, anybody but me thought Matt Smith looked a bit crap with his No.2 haircut? I had found him vaguely attractive as the Doctor (although not a patch on Tennant, of course), but seeing him "shorn" put me right off.

Eyesunderarock · 05/08/2013 14:05

He was very odd, not the haircut as such, but his mumbling and unwillingness to actually look into the camera.
