The most boring drug in the world.

For the people not taking it?

Just been to a 'party' at a house. Big divide between the drug takers and the non drug takers. Drug takers up and down the stairs for a line. No conversation. The rest of us flailing in the non atmosphere.

Grrr. I work in a bar so I put up with this shit at work. Now it's every time I go out for a drink or to a house.

AIBU to think bore off you boring bastards?

2.2% of 16-59 year olds used it in the last year according to the Guardian. The way people are talking in this thread, you'd think it was more like 75%.

thegreylady · 04/08/2013 16:04

I honestly have ever knowingly been anywhere where coke has been taken nor would I stay if I discovered that drug taking was going on.Swallowed I am absolutely anti drugs.

TabithaStephens · 04/08/2013 16:05

I agree greylady.

HesterShaw · 04/08/2013 16:05

Actually I'm kind of with Tabitha. Maybe I have led a very sheltered life, I don't know. But I can only remember one night when I was asked if I wanted to do a line of coke in the toilets (my cousin's hen night). I think it's more prevalent than I have seen, certainly, but if I went to some fellow 30-somethings' houses or out in town with them, I would be pretty surprised if it happened.

I grew up in the 50's / 60's there was marijuana and there was LSD and I'm sure the other stuff was around too but taking it wasn't something to aspire to.

"have taken" or "regularly take"?

TabithaStephens · 04/08/2013 16:12

Where's that figure from secondcoming?

lovesmellingthecoffee · 04/08/2013 16:14

I'm amazed so many people take cocaine, i have never come across it, although as my dd says I'm totally vanilla so probably I give off a no drugs vibe.
And YY to it being boring, one relation has a joint at family occasions and it's like they have checked out of the party.

Rufus43 · 04/08/2013 16:15

36.5% of all people asked have done cocaine, as I'm sure you know it depends who you ask

You can get statistics to say whatever you want, although I do agree that It is probably much more prevalent than people realise

thegreylady · 04/08/2013 16:15

Odd statistic TSC I know no one who has taken part in a survey or been asked a question about cocaine.I have 5dc/sdc all married and none of them has tried cocaine-all have tried marijuana.None of my friends or extended family have taken it-drugs have come into discussion from time to time.
We all have degrees/professions and reasonable incomes.I have a fairly wide social circle and am very surprised that I have not come across this at all.I am 69 now.

TabithaStephens · 04/08/2013 16:16

Maybe it's more prevalent in London, or more likely among certain social circles in London.

not sure that profession/degree is relevant tbh -

TabithaStephens · 04/08/2013 16:18

I can't imagine that many people of OAP age have taken cocaine so that 36.5% figure means a hell of a lot of young to middle ages adults have. I don't believe it.

burberryqueen · 04/08/2013 16:19

course they have tabitha - even druggies get old!

lovesmellingthecoffee · 04/08/2013 16:19

oh God mum you're sooooooooooooo vanilla. Grin

thegreylady · 04/08/2013 16:21

if you include marijuana then I do believe it but the thread is about cocaine.

Caster8 · 04/08/2013 16:33

I used to be like you Tabitha, and didnt really think it was out there as much.
But it is now, especially amongst the young.

MissMarplesBloomers · 04/08/2013 16:35

Having looked after a 22yr old having a complete respiratory collapse from mainlining heroin, who also started off with "just a few lines" of coke at parties, forgive me if I don't subscribe to the harmless recreational thing.

Yes alcohol is addictive but it is possible to have a few social hits and NOT come to any harm, you have to drink fairly heavily every day for several years to knacker your liver. At least the stuff is legislated and pure enough to not rot your gut (or nose) unless you are a proper alcoholic.

Mind altering substances are called that for a reason, they knock off some of your brain cells every single time you have some. Irreversibly.

burberryqueen · 04/08/2013 16:38

yes but that is like saying that drinking a few beers will lead on to a bottle of whisky a day.
it is also quite possible to have a few social hits of cocaine or indeed heroin without coming to any harm....
and actually it doesnt actually take that long to to knacker your lliver, in the meantime 'social' drinkers are at risk of increased violence in relationships, falling and hitting their heads etc etc

HoikyPoiky · 04/08/2013 16:49

My problem with coke and drugs in general is its link to organised crime.

I understand that drugs can be be fun and harmless to take but organised crime effects everyone and causes untold misery the world over. I could never ever take coke because of this.

burberryqueen · 04/08/2013 16:51

you do have a point there hoiky - i sent my bro some details once about the cocaine trade but he didn't answer as he thought 'someone' might be reading his emails.
so paranoid and egotistical then Grin
