The most boring drug in the world.

For the people not taking it?

Just been to a 'party' at a house. Big divide between the drug takers and the non drug takers. Drug takers up and down the stairs for a line. No conversation. The rest of us flailing in the non atmosphere.

Grrr. I work in a bar so I put up with this shit at work. Now it's every time I go out for a drink or to a house.

AIBU to think bore off you boring bastards?

it is true the normal figure would be more like ten per cent, unless you move in particularly druggy circles....

TabithaStephens · 04/08/2013 14:19

I think the OP went to a crack house rather than a party.

Oblomov · 04/08/2013 14:19

Bloody 'ell tethers!! Coke never made me think like that. Honestly.

burberryqueen · 04/08/2013 14:23

haha oblomovv - perhaps she was at the wrong house completely?

garlicagain · 04/08/2013 14:27

I have been to parties, with famous people, huge parties, but still the proportion of people taking something was minimal.

I fear you were either deluded or excluded, Oblomov.

TimeofChange · 04/08/2013 14:28

People take drugs because it is fun.
The deaths - well, they happen to other people.

People going skiing because it's fun.
They go off piste because it's fun.
The off piste deaths - well, they happen to other people.

Some people drive like lunatics, overtaking on blind bends.
The car accident deaths - well, they happen to other people.

The small country town that I live in has at least two young person each year killed in a car accident, through reckless driving.
There has been a few deaths as a result of being drunk, but no drug deaths.

Cars are by far the biggest cause of death of young people were I live.

Abra1d · 04/08/2013 14:34

I'm also somewhat shocked that some people here seem to think cocaine's just another one of those lifestyle choices people make. It's dangerous for everyone involved in its production, sale and use.

Perhaps some of those here will share my horror when they have teenagers rather than little kids.

I move in arty, liberal circles, with friends who are authors and TV folk, but I have never seen people behaving blatantly like this at parties.

RonaldMcDonald · 04/08/2013 14:36

I have used it fairly extensively in the past

It was something everyone in my social circle did. It was everywhere like wine or gin.

Now we are all sprogged up and no one would ever imagine this was the case

burberryqueen · 04/08/2013 14:38

oh i rant and rant to my teenager about the dangers of pills and powders and strong weed. I use members of my family as examples Grin
i tell him stories about how rude and arrogant uncle thing used to be on cocaine and how uncle thang doesnt have a life cos of the strong weed....
still i had a fab time years ago off my trolley - i try not to share that too much....

Oblomov · 04/08/2013 14:38

Garlic, you are wrong. On both counts. Smile

It can't be that endemic. I don't know anyone that uses it. I think it's more like the people that use it think everyone else must also be using it.

Oblomov · 04/08/2013 14:46

I never said THAT. I never said it didn't go on in the rich and famous world or hairdressing.
I said it is proportionally quite low. often.
I have been to parties before that I know many people do partake. But plenty of people there don't. And I know that because we have talked about it. Liking it. Or not liking it. Having done it in younger years , but not doing it now.
So yes, I do, factually know, for definite , which camp many of the attendees fall into.
Surely that's not SO bizarre?

Abra1d I have children aged 4.5 - 20, so my views won't be changing. I take it from time to time, as do probably half of my friends. Of the other half I'd say that half again have dabbled in all sorts over the years and the remainder haven't.

Like TSC, I am aware of hundreds or friends and acquaintances over the years taking drugs. I know only two that died - both from heroin overdoses. Both were extremely privileged aristocracy to boot.

squoosh · 04/08/2013 14:53

The Hebrides are chock full of all the drugs!

I agree though, I'd be very surprised if there isn't a single person in your extended circle that doesn't do coke.

SouthernComforts · 04/08/2013 14:54

Oblomov, I can't prove it obviously Hmm but the fact I started a thread about it at 2 am because it had bothered me enough to says something, dosent it?

We all have different experiences of drugs and drug takers. I personally don't know anyone that takes heroin, crack, meth etc. But I do know a LOT of people who take cocaine every single week. I am in the minority by not taking it, trust me.

Am a respectable mother nowadays but before that...

I tried coke three times over a period of approx 10 years. First time felt nothing and then puked. Second time felt nothing, puked. Third time felt amazing for around 10 minutes then puked.

It did not agree with me.

I adore weed and am also a hypocrite as I was recently Shock at a party when 4 women I don't know very well, but am starting to, tumbled out of the loo after snorting away.

The PTA parties have changed. I wonder what the WI would be like?!

PeriodFeatures · 04/08/2013 15:16

This really is a sad and pathetic thread who wants to hear about people who are so desperate for a life they have to talk about "COCAINE" why dont we talk about having a fag round the back of the "BIKE SHEDS" people need to grow up

Because some of us enjoyed drugs and were not addicted and harmed by them. Not too badly any way. Just a few dusty teeth. :) We had lots of fun dancing for 8 hours straight to lovely lovely tunes and everyone loved each other and it was great.

Have a disco Biscuit

Elsiequadrille · 04/08/2013 15:21

It frightened me when I discovered a friend of mine regularly took it, well at weekends (some years ago now). Was that an overreaction? Genuine question.

Looster · 04/08/2013 15:21

YANBU - ime, someone who is normally fun to be with becomes a complete egotistical bore on coke, thinking they are the bees knees whilst looking like a slack jaw and being a total ignorant bore! Can't stand it - 80% :( I'd have left v quickly!

I honestly don't think cocaine is anything like as prevalent as some are saying on this thread.

MewlingQuim · 04/08/2013 15:36

I think you need to find a new circle of friends southerncomforts

Its the same whether its drugs or alcohol -people who are off their heads are 'fun' to other people who are also off their heads and 'boring' to people who are straight and sober.

I used to do a lot of drugs. When I quit I also had to quit all my circle of friends who used drugs. I found them boring, they found me boring. It was sad to find out it was all we had in common.

You will make new friends. Move on.

HepsibarCrinkletoes · 04/08/2013 15:47

Tabitha, you are either living an extremely sheltered life or are deluded. Given that a ridiculously high percentage of bank notes have traces of cocaine on them and, albeit a few years ago, a huge proportion of loo seats in bars, offices and even hospitals tested positive for coke, I'd say that was pretty prevalent.
