to lose it at this angry woman who criticised my parking.

So i was in town this morning with the Q7 (or the panzer tank as I call it) and i pulled up to a space. I reversed in a few times but i was always a bit squint. Eventually i left the car squint but still in the bay. I let out my kids and just while i locked the car this woman came over.

she said i should go back and straighten the car out because it was squint. I told her that if she had a q7 i would like to see her park it in such a tight space. She thought i was suggesting that she didn't have a big car because she was poor. i wasn't suggesting that at all. so she went into a long rant about me being disrespectful. i was shocked .

but i didn't shout too much cause i had two kids with me.

aibu to be annoyed at her.

PeriodFeatures. You must have seen a different OP to me then. Why the hell can't someone mention the make of car without people assuming it is done to show off. It's pathetic and unpleasant to assume someone
is bragging simply because they have mentioned the make of their car.

EarthtoMajorTom · 23/07/2013 21:47

This must be a reverse aibu.

Learn to park, or get a Corsa.

PeriodFeatures · 23/07/2013 21:51

Sorry. It was the tone of the message overall i think. You are correct, it was pathetic and unpleasant. Next time I read a post and think gosh, they sound like a bit of a twat perhaps I shall not comment. Grin

EarthtoMajorTom · 23/07/2013 22:02

No, write, 'gosh, you sound like a bit of a twat'. This is the internet Smile

ReindeerBollocks · 23/07/2013 22:02

I don't care about the make of the car - and the lady who commented probably didn't either.

It doesn't matter if your driving a mini or a tank, either park it properly or don't drive it. I seriously doubt if it is a huge car that it was squint but still within the lines, cars that big that are parked at an angle usually do go over the lines, making you unreasonable.

SirChenjin · 23/07/2013 22:06

Aww, that's what the OP thought too Slang when she presumed that woman thought she was calling her poor for not driving a Q7 (that's an Audi Q7, an Audi, and not just any old Audi oh no no no, an Audi Q7 that she 'needs') Grin

SlangWhanger · 23/07/2013 22:09

Good plan! Grin

OrmirianResurgam · 23/07/2013 22:17

Q7? From the way you are all talking it sounds more like the QE2 (joke that ages me massively). I have a C8 (now we all sound equally wanky) and it's huge but I can park it. Learn to park it, or get a new car.

Woman was rude but this dem furrin weather makes awkward cusses of us all. She had a point.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 23/07/2013 22:58

OP you have fallen victim to another MN Rule, which is right up there with fruitshoots, which is Thou Shalt Not Drive an SUV. It does not matter whether said SUV is a model of fuel economy and doesn't have bull-bars. You shall still be judged as selfish and gas-guzzling and a nanosecond away from running over a child you cannot see whilst attempting to park.

I drive an SUV. I couldn't give a shiny shit what a bunch of strangers on t'internet think. I didn't really need it for any particular thing. It will come in handy for some stuff but really I just wanted one. It's new so it's very efficient and has got low emissions etc but I Just Wanted One. It's lovely thanks! Grin

And as I mentioned up thread somewhere, so far it's a breeze to park. Wink

susiedaisy · 23/07/2013 23:13

As long as you didn't park in a way that stopped anyone parking next to you and opening their doors then yanbu but you should learn to park properly tbh!

NotintheMiddle · 24/07/2013 10:21

Well I have a T4 and as I drove forward into a parallel parking place the other day the T4 mounted the kerb. I left my T4 squint, but inside the lines. No part of the T4, even the bike rack, was outside the lines.

Would you all like to hate me instead?

missmarplestmarymead · 24/07/2013 11:06

I don't think anyone is hating anyone......bit silly.

As far as I, and plenty of others are concerned, it doesn't matter if you are driving a T4, a Q7, riding a trike or steering a bath chair. If you can't park it, don't drive it.

Not rocket science, although it is all about showing consideration which does seem to be a leetle tricky for some to understand!

Bumpotato · 24/07/2013 11:18

I would have thought a Q7 would have automatic parking cheap shite Grin

My new car has the auto parking but I do a better job.

Go into a quiet car park on evening and practice parking your motor, OP!

fromparistoberlin · 24/07/2013 11:22

she is not showing off

she cant fucking park though!!!

not can I OP, lesson learned: leave an extra ten minutes to drive around and find a spave you can easily park in. I literally depart my car SWEATING

i fucking hate parking

curryeater · 24/07/2013 11:26

People who can't drive their stupid big cars are incredibly annoying. Perhaps the person who lost it with you had just spent 10 minutes reversing down a narrow London residential street with cars parked on each side, because some tosser in an insanely huge car had just ploughed round the corner into her face without checking and then had no idea how to get out of the situation. Sorry, you have to take this for the team. The Bad Drivers With Big Greedy Cars In Cities team. Or resign from the team.

tobiasfunke · 24/07/2013 11:36

YABU for starting a thread on here about parking. Even if this woman had come over and repeatedly punched you in the face whilst berating you would still get get told you entirely deserved it because you intimated in some way you didn't park in a text book stylee.

YABU thinking you need a massive 4 x4 for the winter. The Continentals don't use them - they have winter tyres and or snow chains on lighter cars. However YANBU buying whatever car you wish.

SlangWhanger · 24/07/2013 11:59

Snow chains are not practical for the UK See the AAs Advice HERE. I used to live in snowy Canada, four wheel drive and winter tyres is the best way to go.

ComposHat · 24/07/2013 12:12

Yes, those ridiculous 4X4 with fucking skinny low profile tyres and wanky bolt on spoilers sports kits gets my goat. By and large you don't need a 4x4 in the Uk, but why negate the one useful purpose of a 4X4 by putting a load of fibre glass tat and totally inapropriate tyres?

Fucking idiots.

musicismylife · 24/07/2013 12:16

OP, I once had a car the size of yours. I could park it fine and drive it fine. But I knew that I would forever be under other peoples' scrutiny. I used the same excuse of you; loads of kids, blah, blah, blah.

I have now downsized, feel a lot more confident and guess what? All of my kids can fit in it.

I'm afraid it goes with the territory. Suck it up.

susiedaisy · 24/07/2013 12:21

Doesn't matter what car it is, if someone can't park properly in the allocated space it's bloody annoying for the person next to them who can't get their doors open cause the other car is right on the line, it's crap, selfish driving regardless of the car!

SirChenjin · 24/07/2013 14:15

I wonder if the OP has hidden this thread by now? I know I would have done - my skin would not be thick enough to withstand this thread Grin

Ilovemyself · 24/07/2013 18:24

Sorry but anyone saying this is not boasting needs their head examining. There was bo reason to state the model of the car other than to brag. And to say it is need as the OP lives in Scotland is tosh. She probably has no idea how to drive a 4x4 properly and I bet she keeps the road tyres on which will be useless in the snow!

SlangWhanger · 24/07/2013 18:53

I don't think it was boasting. Why would anyone boast about their car? It could be an old clapped out one for all we know. It doesn't stop people making ridiculous assumptions about the OPs driving abilities, manners, personalities etc etc. How can anyone know what tyres the OP uses in winter??? This thread is full of psychics

And before anyone asks, I don't have an SUV Hmm. And I am brilliant at parking.

Sparklingbrook · 24/07/2013 18:54

It wasn't a very good boast as most of us didn't know what a Q7 was. Grin
