to lose it at this angry woman who criticised my parking.

So i was in town this morning with the Q7 (or the panzer tank as I call it) and i pulled up to a space. I reversed in a few times but i was always a bit squint. Eventually i left the car squint but still in the bay. I let out my kids and just while i locked the car this woman came over.

she said i should go back and straighten the car out because it was squint. I told her that if she had a q7 i would like to see her park it in such a tight space. She thought i was suggesting that she didn't have a big car because she was poor. i wasn't suggesting that at all. so she went into a long rant about me being disrespectful. i was shocked .

but i didn't shout too much cause i had two kids with me.

aibu to be annoyed at her.

Oh come on slangwanger. You don't get an old clapped out Q7. The only reason people make posts like this is to say look how cool I am and how much I can afford. Look at my c-max or transit minibus just doesn't have the same ring.........

SlangWhanger · 24/07/2013 23:48

You can buy a second hand Q7 for £12,900 That is not a massive amount for a massive big car.

I wonder how many of the posters who have made ridiculous assumptions about the OP have spent more on their own cars Grin

If they have, I wonder if they would be brave enough to admit it.

missmarplestmarymead · 25/07/2013 00:36

I said, quite early on in the thread, that one of our cars is a large lexus saloon and that I could park it.

I then repeated it because some fool came along and asked me what I drove. As she said she was saying it with a 'po face' I imagined she was trying to say I was jealous of the fact that the OP had a jeep! Obviously not but then I couldn't really care less if she drove a rolls royce or a bath chair. My point was that she shouldn't be driving what she can't park unless she discovered the secret of perpetual motion and intended never to pull up.

I think we've moved on from the fact that anyone is jealous of the OP's jeep, as many posters tried to make the simple point-whatever your car is, if you can't park it, don't drive it! That's good manners towards fellow road users.

Oh, I see we're playing competitive poverty!

Right, I drive a go-cart and have to cram in eight kids, four dogs, two llamas, an elephant and a horn-billed pelican!

MidniteScribbler · 25/07/2013 01:55

I have a real 4x4, much bigger than "the q7" (and mine has mud on it and everything) and I wouldn't drive it if I couldn't drive or park it correctly. Large vehicles have a lot of potential for more damage in an accident, and you also need to be aware that other vehicles may not have as much visibility when around you. I have no sympathy whatsoever for anyone who moans that their car is too big to park. It's not too big to park, you're just a crap driver and should go and take lessons before driving a vehicle you can't manage correctly.

Idocrazythings · 25/07/2013 05:19

I think no matter what car you have you should park it properly. And not being straight in the lines is not acceptable unless you have a car like mr bean

Sorry OP YWBU. (And I hate parking too)

Glittertwins · 25/07/2013 07:04

If you buy a newer Q7, they are much more fuel efficient so not the gas guzzler they are perceived to be. The older 3.0 diesels are about the same as our Zafira not really that bad at all.

susiedaisy · 25/07/2013 19:37

Goes off to google a Q7 to see what the fuss is all about!

ComposHat · 25/07/2013 21:06

it is like someone has pumped an Audi A3 full of steroids

alemci · 25/07/2013 21:17

where I live there is one particular supermarket where sometimes drivers park long saloon cars next to mine at an angle to my smaller car maing it difficult to back out. perhaps they cant manoeuvre car or dont care but why so inconsiderate.

ComposHat · 25/07/2013 21:19

it is like someone has pumped an Audi A3 full of steroids, do mamages to look blwnd and horribly mis-shapen at the same time.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 25/07/2013 21:29

Sorry but anyone saying this is not boasting needs their head examining. There was bo reason to state the model of the car other than to brag.

I always call my car by its model. When I had a Ford Fiesta it was 'the Fiesta', when I had a VW Golf it was 'the Golf' and now I have a Landrover Freelander it's 'the Freelander'. I think that's pretty normal actually. What the hell do you call yours? Confused

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 25/07/2013 21:30

Oh and Grin to see this thread is still going.

The op has definitely hidden it by now.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 25/07/2013 21:30

i live on a street with a lot of these cars on it (stealth boast) and unless they are parked P E R F E C T L Y they are an absolute fucker to get round/park behind/pull out from, because they're already taking up acres more room than their fair share.

conorsrockers · 25/07/2013 21:35

OP - my kids go to a school where just about every Mum drives a Q7 or a Range Rover Sport or similar. We live in the country - it's for the snow apparently Blush most of them can't park properly. It drives me nuts and means that my kids have to clamber across my (filthy I admit) pick-up to get out one side. Our weekend car (DH's commuting car) is a Toyota Aygo - it fits 5 of us in no problem (3 big DS with their cricket kits) and guess what - it goes in the snow too, if you know how to drive properly. Having a big car is NO EXCUSE for not being able to park. I park my pick-up on a sixpence and it's a good deal longer than a Q7. If I couldn't drive it, I wouldn't have it.
Guess who ends up in the ditch when the snow comes Wink
I'm not trying to be a smug bitch (but doing a good job of sounding like one) but you are going to struggle to get sympathy by blaming your parking on your car - whatever car it is.

K8Middleton · 25/07/2013 21:48

I live in a town where almost everyone has one of these for the second best au-pair.

SacreBlue · 25/07/2013 21:49

I think it's perfectly reasonable to have the car you want - even to be a bit crap at parking said car for a little while after you buy it since you are getting used to it and to have an off day when you are in a rush/tight spot and park it a little less than 100%

I do worry though as said upthread about anyone driving a car who regularly has difficulty in parking it in a safe manner, or even a thoughtful to other users manner.

I don't think that sounds like you OP, so maybe the other lady was having a bad day (perhaps even down to someone else's parking recently)

At least you didn't end up

ps - just round the corner from me & I admit, even watching it, I felt like offering to take the wheel for her Grin

AberdeenAngusina · 25/07/2013 22:14

After World War II ended, one of the doctors in the OPs neck of the woods bought an actual tank, which ensured he was able to reach all his patients even in the depth of winter.

I wonder if anyone ever complained about his driving?

itsallaboutyoubaby · 25/07/2013 22:20

SirChenjin · 25/07/2013 22:21

I used to live up on Deeside AberdeenAngusina and never heard that story - love it! Where did he drive it?!

AberdeenAngusina · 25/07/2013 22:29

Sir Chenjin, apparently he used it to get to women in labour in winter. I think it was more of an armoured vehicle rather than a full on tank, but I've heard it described as a tank.
