AIBU to think buggy snobbery is alive and kicking!

I'm the owner of a (2nd hand) bugaboo bee which we bought simply because it was the best for public transport, small and light. Since entering the world of babies we have received an unexpected amount of comment both snobby and reverse snobby (ooh a bugaboo, yummy mummy are we)! WTF! Anyone judge or judges in secret?

Dora, you've been outdone by the lost and found buggy.kudos to squinkies
Your £250 spend..it says you're kind of person who spends £250 but really wanted bugaboo
And spend lot of time dissing bugaboo to quell disappointment

I have a mamas and papas pramette that I got for free from someone who was getting rid of all her baby stuff and didn't want any money for it. I have heard from other mums at work that it's quite a good one but to be honest, I didn't do any research into it. I find it hard to believe just how much snobbery there is about a lot of things. It's stupid.

We have a bebecar travel system. Is that an Audi or a Cincequento?

Does it matter that we pulled out of a skip?

I didn't know my pram had a reputation when I bought it. Honestly I didn't. I live in the arse end of nowhere Sweden where choice is limited. I tried the ones on offer in the shop. The bugaboo was the only one I could lift that also had a carrycot for sleeping. Saw the price tag. Scraped husband up off the floor. (Approx £2000 here Shock) Then found a second hand one on Blocket (sort of like Swedish ebay) for £350.

Never in a million years did I think of it as some sort of status symbol. New baby hormones must still be playing up as I feel all sad now and don't want it any more,

I have a bugaboo bee and love it, really pleased with it. I'd get an Audi too if I could afford it so there. You think I'm a twat, I'd probably think you're one too so we're even.

My earlier post 'dissing' bugaboo was intended as tongue in cheek, hence the winking smiley.

Bugaboo weren't around AFAIK when I got my travel system, or hadn't taken off they way they have now anyway. I don't have a strong opinion on this one way or the other and don't judge people for owning certain prams, maybe they're rich and don't even notice the price, or maybe their desperately pretentious and have £50k of debt, you just don't know. But these reputations do exist, so no point buying into the brand and moaning about the reactions you get off some judgey types Smile

I must admit I have a wee glance at others buggies, I gothrough quite a few as I get fed up with them. Just bbought dd3 a concord neo a few weeks ago and absolutely love it its a great buggy to push no idea if its a snobby buggy or not though. Bugaboos are lovely though would probably buy one if I was ever going to buy another buggy bit dh has said the neo is her last....spoil sport so he is.

These threads are formulaic.over populated by bugaboo haters, and angst owners
Naturally -all- most of the bugaboo will have been acquired 2nd hand for tuppence ha'penny
Well as soon as strident baby wearer turns up,they'll chastise prams as mobile prisons

I have no idea what a bugaboo looks like. I have never actually bought or used a pushchair so I have very little clue about them in general and not the foggiest on brand names. I don't see the appeal of buggy pushing, but maybe that's just me. I generally think they make life harder than it needs to be in lots of situations, and I'll admit I don't like it when I'm delayed or inconvenienced by other people using them (buses, trains, lifts, car boots, pavements, tight spaces, cafes and so on being prime problem spaces to put a buggy into)

But brand names? No

I had a bugaboo bee plus all black when dd was born in 2011. I secretly loved that i seemed to be the only person around with an all black one as it had just come out. This was mainly because so many people in my area own a bee and i like to be individual. In all seriousness, i did get it because i live on London and it was the best lightweight and smallest full feature stroller available at the time for running around a very crowded city.

When my daughter was a year old the baby jogger city mini gt came out. My dd didn't need the reverse seat anymore and as she was getting bigger i felt she needed something sturdier and higher up. She never really loved sitting in the bee either but loves the baby jogger. It is cheaper than the bugaboo but i suppose both brands are seen as statement buggys.

For me i spent extra on these items not for any other reason than them having all the convenient features they have. I dont drive so having a top of the line stroller to me was important for convenience because you do get what you pay for. The extra features make everyday a little more convenient when you walk or take London transport everywhere.

There is snobbery and there is reverse snobbery. Frankly i think its all a bit silly. I have a friend who also lives in London who was very judgy because i also bought a super lightweight travel maclaren as well as changing my original buggy. She would often point out that she had always had her original buggy with an air of superiority. Now she wants a maclaren like mine because she thinks it would be easier on her when taking public transport with a toddler and was asking me about mine. I didn't point out how snobby she was about me buying one.

For me i paid more not to be a snob, but genuinely because you get what you pay for, and i wanted convenience.

IdaClair I had to have a pram because of my disability. I cannot use a sling because it hurts my back too much. I then had to find one which was light enough to lift, bearing in mind my back problems, but also sturdy enough to lean on as I won't be able to use my rollator at the same time.

I also 'wore' my daughter daily during her first year and bought a top of the line carrier for that too.

Money well spent for all the convenience and peace of mind.

To me, the yummy mummy stereotype means something different to the WAG/bling picture. I associate it with bugaboo, boden, pink linings changing bags and competitive NCT groups. Which is why I didn't pick a donkey.

But i must add, i wont be changing it, it will stay with me until DS3 is walking and i no longer need it - cost enough haha

I get serious buggy part envy. I drool over bits of other people's buggys and imagine putting all the bits together to make one super efficient, great looking buggy. Then I imagine how many millions I'd make seeing as how none of the existing buggy makers can make one that is perfect.

Does anyone really think that bugged are actually a bad thing?

Or is that TIC?

I have 3 "carriers", a pram and a pushchair. Blush
Oh, and a very cluttered hallway.
