AIBU to think buggy snobbery is alive and kicking!

I'm the owner of a (2nd hand) bugaboo bee which we bought simply because it was the best for public transport, small and light. Since entering the world of babies we have received an unexpected amount of comment both snobby and reverse snobby (ooh a bugaboo, yummy mummy are we)! WTF! Anyone judge or judges in secret?

No competitive cheap skatery here MrsO and scottishmummy. I just had no money whatsoever. Literally. I was living in a house with no cold running water in the kitchen when dd was born.

Fact is dc survived not having a naice pram. And they haven't ever asked about it.

scottishmummy · 13/07/2013 19:46

Have the sling lot popped up yet to chirrup on about pram as mobile prisons

FobblyWoof · 13/07/2013 19:46

It is but you don't have to pay attention to it, though I can appreciate it would be annoying if you get comments regularly.

I love pushchairs. Love them, but I just like looking at them, I don't give a fig how much they cost!

chillinwithmyyonis · 13/07/2013 19:47

I hate people that get on buses with icandys and similar monstronsities. (coming from user of a petite bugaboo gecko and I am not a twat).

MrsOakenshield · 13/07/2013 19:50

Scone I wasn't looking for a naice pram. I was looking for one that did what I wanted it to. Sorry that I had a choice in the matter, sorry that you didn't. Of course DD would have been fine, who's saying otherwise? What exactly is your point?

wonderingsoul · 13/07/2013 19:50

i like push chairs.. like some owman like handbag or shoes.

i care and look.. and even sometime mention to who ever im with that buggy over there is nice.

i dont judge the people pushing them though.

i just like buggys...

and to the op with mother care spin... i went with a friend who was expecting to go buggy shopping.. i fell in love with it. how cool that it spins Grin it was almost enough for me to want another baby.

WestieMamma · 13/07/2013 19:53

Wish I could be mistaken for a yummy mummy :(

Oh well, back to being a short, round, pauper, student, couch potato mummy.

MakeItUpAsYouGoAlong · 13/07/2013 19:55

Daddy pig- dd is ten months and my problem is having her at a silly angle so she lies back, when I have her upright she tries to make a break for it.
I'd like her to still face me but she screams blue murder! I'm quite offended actually

scottishmummy · 13/07/2013 19:56

Yes I had running water, and I had the dosh for bugaboo
Should I have denied myself pram of choice on basis someone else didn't have one
Can't see what the point is in retelling, other than illustrate being skint?

Fraggle3112 · 13/07/2013 19:58

I have An iCandy peach, was a present from my parents and I love it! I have come across some snobbery but I don't care! I also have an Audi so maybe I should have had a bugaboo instead and gone the whole hog!

MummytoMog · 13/07/2013 20:12

I tried explaining to someone that you really get what you pay for with buggies (and I buy mine second hand) and got a rant for half an hour about consumerism. I should have let her try pushing 35kg of toddlers in the cheap double buggy while I pushed the bugaboo donkey with one hand then.

I really miss my Stokke though :( they didn't do doubles when DS came along (and I'm really not sure about their double buggy anyway).

I should walk around kicking my pram shouting YOU BASTARD then? Grin

MummytoMog · 13/07/2013 20:18

I can't believe someone called the beloved Donkey fugly Shock admittedly I tried to talk my friend out of buying one for her twins, but for a pair of lazy ass toddlers, it's awesome. I wish we'd had it when DS was tiddly, instead of the daft Peach.

I had a knackered P and T. It didn't work very well. Ya know, because it was knackered. Which was a problem with the pair of giant, lazy toddlers.

[goes away to stroke the Donkey]

scottishmummy · 13/07/2013 20:19

Ah,yes the we eschew consumerism crew with wonky cart to prove how hip and right on they are
That too is contrived, the hey we care not for frippery,by having a manky pram

HaroldLloyd · 13/07/2013 20:22

I'm just off to buff my pram up. I'm going to have gleaming wheels for my daily twat parade tomorrow.

DoraExplorer1993 · 13/07/2013 20:23

And I thought I was overspending when I bought a £250 silvercross travel system a few years back. There is an element of getting what you pay for, but there's definitely an element of 'being seen' with a premium brand amongst some people. Hence my analogy with Audis - yes maybe you didn't buy one because you're a twat, but that's the reputation they have and you decided to buy one anyway, so that does say a little bit about you, and really you can't moan about it as you should have known accusations of snobbery would come your way.

HaroldLloyd · 13/07/2013 20:25

I don't associate with people that are silly enough to judge people on such total arse as what pram they have so luckily I never have this problem.

ThreeEyedRaven · 13/07/2013 20:26

Lolz, this is highly entertaining.

I am only just starting to look into these things and was considering a Phil and Reds, everyone at Glasto seemed to have them and they looked sturdy with big wheels.

Where do they fit in with the social pecking order of pushchair snobbery?

scottishmummy · 13/07/2013 20:27

Pram with a reputation?what like goes with anyone?a pram that turns tricks
In the way you're striving to emphasise how little you sent, that's v contrived
And someone who spent 27p will think your £250 a blingy overspend

HaroldLloyd · 13/07/2013 20:28

Most people would have spent less on their prams than you, you big old show off Dora.

Impatientwino · 13/07/2013 20:29

I have a bugaboo and an Audi Shock

I'm nice honestly and I never cut people up on motorways..honest!

(in the Audi obviously not in the bugaboo!)

Raise · 13/07/2013 20:29

Quinny needs to be outward facing to get seat in most upright position.

SquinkiesRule · 13/07/2013 20:32

My poor Dd was so deprived, her buggy was from the lost and found. Sis gave it me, left on one of their flights and sat in their office for months on end. They were about to throw it in the bin. It was brilliant, no name tag on it anywhere, but it folded like and umbrella and lay flat and was light as a feather. We used it till it had to be thrown away from collapsing in a tired heap.

DoraExplorer1993 · 13/07/2013 20:32

I don't think £250 is cheap, it's more middle of the road IMO, I was a bit shocked to learn about prams going for £600+ though. My point is merely that certain brands have a reputation, so if you buy them anyway that does say something about you, even if you have a non-blingy reason for your purchase Smile
