I'm the owner of a (2nd hand) bugaboo bee which we bought simply because it was the best for public transport, small and light. Since entering the world of babies we have received an unexpected amount of comment both snobby and reverse snobby (ooh a bugaboo, yummy mummy are we)! WTF! Anyone judge or judges in secret?

OP posts:
oohdaddypig · 13/07/2013 19:12

Makeitup and fung - I have a second hand Quinny too (will ensure look suitably chavvy when pushing it;shouldn't be too hard)

Question - how the heck do you make the kid sit upright in it? No matter how tight the toggle is DC is still reclined at a daft angle (chilling out chav style maybe)

I love its off road tyres too

Sparklingbrook · 13/07/2013 19:13

Apple to Pear upgrade Confused Where the new baby completely blocks the view of DC1. Excellent!

oohdaddypig · 13/07/2013 19:14

Ps surely the name "bugaboo" is enough to scream "yummy mummy"

scottishmummy · 13/07/2013 19:15

I did know people who opined on buggy as if demonstrable measure of character (and prosperity)
imo,if it goes from a to b,safely transport wean, that enough
Everything else is personal preference, aesthetics, budget

mrscog · 13/07/2013 19:17

I have an iCandy peach, because I really liked the assembly, wanted parent facing and it fitted in our car. Could not afford the £800 price tag so picked up an ebay bargain. Didn't give it a second thought until I started using it, since then I worry about people thinking we spent £800 on a pushchair and judging accordingly. No one has said anything though!

Sparklingbrook · 13/07/2013 19:18

Ooh I never noticed mrscog, I should have closely inspected your pram. Grin

Lutrine · 13/07/2013 19:19

I saw a woman in John Lewis trying to sell a buggy, not sure what sort but she brought a mirror over and got the customer to push it in front of it whilst saying "oh that one really suits you! I can see you with that one!"it was so weird! I saw a buggy with squirrells on in kiddicare, wish I had that one instead of the black one my DH insisted on!

HaroldLloyd · 13/07/2013 19:25

I've got a bugaboo and I certainly ain't no yummy mummy.

gamerchick · 13/07/2013 19:26

I must admit I rolleyes when I see one of those ridiculous looking prams with the tiny seats and little wheels on the front. Especially at how much they cost new and just look like posh supermarket trolleys. It might be because I had normal prams 18 years ago and don't like change mind Grin

scottishmummy · 13/07/2013 19:26

What exactly causes you worry about strangers opinion Re:cost of pram
If someone wants to get in a tizzy about cost of buggy that makes them daft
Competitively claiming pram cost 27p and wean sleep in drawer is a bit of a mc sport

WestieMamma · 13/07/2013 19:29

At risk of sounding like I live on the moon, can someone please explain the term 'yummy mummy' to me and why it's bad?

scottishmummy · 13/07/2013 19:32

Why don't you google wasting time stressing about what strangers think of buggies....time you'll never get back
Yummy mummy is a pejorative term for prosperous dolled up mum, stick thin, big sunnies, wag

DoraExplorer1993 · 13/07/2013 19:33

You can tell how image conscious these bugaboo owners are, they strut around in public basking in the perceived glory of owning a bugaboo, yet on an internet forum where thrift is the name of the game, they all claim to have bought them second hand Wink

Funghoul · 13/07/2013 19:33

Oohdaddypig just had a play and seat seems more upright when facing forwards rather than parent facing. Do agree it could be more upright in the parent facing position

KenAdams · 13/07/2013 19:34

I see what you mean OP, completely acceptable to judge people with Bugaboos on here but a sin to call Quinnys chavvy. Double standards are alive and well on MN!

mrscog · 13/07/2013 19:34

Oh sparkling! I would have worried that you were thinking hmm a bazillion pound pram, Mrs Cog has more money than sense!

scottishmummy · 13/07/2013 19:35

Perceived glory in owning bugaboo?oh joy I have a fleet of bugaboo
All bought new
How glorious for me to be held in such high regard

MrsOakenshield · 13/07/2013 19:36

good to see the reverse snobbery is alive and well on this thread, certainly on page 1.

We got a Bugaboo Bee because I wanted one with an adjustable handle (I'm quite short, and on borrowed Maclaren's have found the handles a little too high for comfort), it's very narrow so good for public transport and our narrow hallway, it collapses to be pretty small to fit in our tiny boot, and you can put the car seat on it. Another bonus I've found is that having one handle is great for when your toddler wants to sometimes walk - easier to push singlehanded.

But good to know that because I tried out a few and made an informed decision I'm a twat or a yummy mummy Hmm.

NoComet · 13/07/2013 19:38

My DDs had a wheel barrow.

Very early mountain buggy, most people had never seen a 3 wheeled buggy before and joked it looked like a wheel barrow. Brilliant go absolutely anywhere, town or country buggy, it had many adventures including bouncing round the Scilly isles.

Sparklingbrook · 13/07/2013 19:38

Grin mrscog. I will be out scrutinising prams now.

IShallCallYouSquishy · 13/07/2013 19:40

Well I've got a bugaboo bee. And it's bright yellow so proper in your face. And I love it. So ner Grin

My very lovely parents kindly got it for me as a gift when I was pregnant. It was the buggy I wanted. I love how it looks and how easy it is. My DD is 13.5 months and shows no signs of outgrowing it. It will last me until she no longer needs pushing.

I'm certainly no "yummy mummy" (looks at dodgy roots, chopped toe nail polish and flabby size 14 body)

scottishmummy · 13/07/2013 19:40

I shall be doing the bugaboo walk of pride, hoping folk know it reassuringly expensive

HaroldLloyd · 13/07/2013 19:40

Dora I bought mine new as it goes, with ALL the accessories and your post is a pile of shite, really!

TwelveLeggedWalk · 13/07/2013 19:41

The only buggy snobbery I have ever experienced is the RAGE on here directed at people with large offroaders in town,
I have twins and a large dog and live in the sticks so obviously I have a large offroader.

Unfortunately I don't own a fleet of different buggies handily positioned at different points around the county, so seeing as I am starting my journey from the sticks, I do have to take my mud splatted behemoth into town. Sorry an' all.

TheRealMBJ · 13/07/2013 19:41

I had a bugaboo chameleon with DS as all the research I did suggested it was best for our livestyle. He never went into the damn thing until he was about 9 mo, so for a few desperate months (while trying to convince myself the money wasn't wasted) I could be seen pushing an empty pushchair while carrying him in my Moby wrap.

By the time I was about to have DD, I decided not to bother, got a cheapish Maclaren (that I could collapse with one hand) and just slinged the baby and pushed the toddler. Now DD rides and DS walks. Wished I did this first time round.
