AIBU to think buggy snobbery is alive and kicking!

I'm the owner of a (2nd hand) bugaboo bee which we bought simply because it was the best for public transport, small and light. Since entering the world of babies we have received an unexpected amount of comment both snobby and reverse snobby (ooh a bugaboo, yummy mummy are we)! WTF! Anyone judge or judges in secret?

Ooh I've been looking for a thread like this... I have no understanding of the whole buggy thing. My DSis is mad for them, I've got more of a 'its got wheels and a seat, we're good to go' kind of mentality. However when I was expecting DD3 I wanted a buggy I actually liked the look of rather then just the most practical/cheapest one I could get hold off. Ended up with a second hand Silver Cross 3D, because it looked nice and had 2 handles so I could stick my handbag on one of them. Since joining MN I've learnt about buggy snobbery! So, could anyone tell me what my buggy says about me? I'm dying to know now!

Depends what spin you put on the accompanying story of pram
2ndhand for 27p,or freecycle,or found it youre trying to be right on,care not for branding
Claiming a tesco trolley will suffice and in your days there was no choice.as above
If you're simply happy with pram,irrespective of cost then surprisingly normal

We had a Quinny, it had its uses, sturdy, great for naps but useless on public transport. I had no idea prams were a status issue till I saw some celeb had it too. I now have £40 Babydan ToGo and love it.

Before people judge though, sometimes it is worth shelling out for a higher end buggy as the resale value will be quite high.

Actually the really good pushchairs hold their value very well, because 3,4,5 and even more years later they are still good pushchairs. Other pushchairs are very expensive new, but you can pick them up second hand (literally after a couple of weeks use) for peanuts.

Lots of buggy snobbery where I live. I have a Bugaboo Cameleon and love it. We have it though because for our needs it is simply the best buggy.

ds 4 had 3 prams the mclaren xt that was ds1s a graco travel system that I loathed with a passion but dh bought and a fancy pants mamas and pappas Ultima system 9 in 1 thingy with bouncy big wheels that I loved but weighed more than an elephant and was a pita to get downstairs from our flat didnt fit in the boot or on public transport.

dd got a cheapo reverse handle jobby because I was over prams by this point

Highchair snobbery?

Well...I own an IKEA Antilop and a Brothermax Scoop.

Love them both equally

(Brothermax Scoop was a present. Ridiculously £££ but absolutely fab, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Plus it looks stylish and DD loves sitting in it. However, silly price for a highchair really!)

It's a buggy and functional for your baby.

Why put pressure on yourself. They will be out of it an about a year anyway x

Bit hard to be snobby about highchairs I suppose unless you take them out with you frisson.

I got Maclarens because we'd already spent a lot of money on a travel system with a pram/pushchair but wanted something lighter. I thought about what I would be using it for - shopping - to not need to open double doors to get into a shop, needed to be light, fold up easily and go in the car and also fit down narrow pavements or into a restaurant without feeling we are taking up too much space.

The larger pushchairs and prams did my head in as a non-parent so I wanted to get something as neat as possible.

I think you can choose a bigger/more expensive buggy for practical reasons too though and some of them share many of the features of the Maclaren.

But I'm afraid I do judge people a bit for choosing things for form/showing off over function in general, whether it's a blingy pushchair, a ridiculously priced handbag, nasty loud entrance gates with stone lions on a modern house, an impractical gas guzzling car or a pair of heels you can't walk in and make you look daft. I am a snob though, I admit it.

This is where anything 'designer' goes right over my head. I wouldn't know a real Prada from a fake and really have no interest. I am also rubbish at cars, I don't know what they are just whether they are fugly or not.
