According to my Mum NOBODY in their right mind would allow their child to wear THIS

I would. I like it and I know DD would! I asked my Mum to make it and she actually laughed out loud! Shock

She said "Who on earth would let their child walk about in THAT!?"

Well actually me! I would! I know it's a bit "dressing up box" but why can't a 5 year old have some fun with her wardrobe? Mum takes ages to knit things as she puts them down a lot....so it would be done for Autumn I expect. She has point blank refused....I told her I'd have to ask MIL then as MIL would knit me a wedding dress if I asked her to though she's not as good as Mum...she will do it whatever she thinks of it.

Anyway...Mum trusts you lot...if I tell her you all say it's ok, then she might do it. Grin So...be honest...DD would like it and she can skip to the shops/park in it with jeans and boots on.

Yes? Or no?

Xylem I use velcro so it looked like it was tied under the chin, but was actually velcroed.

goodasgold · 30/05/2013 01:24

gulp. So after I've asked my MIL to knit this pretty thing, are my little dds going to die. That would be a proper fairy tale.

Bogeyface · 30/05/2013 01:27

Good Get her to sew the button onto the top of the cape and use a press stud underneath so it is safe :)

xylem8 · 30/05/2013 01:37

yes make it so it comes undone with the slightest pressure. If anyone stands on it at the top of the slide, or it snags on anything (and being woollen and 'flowing') it will snag easily, your dd will be brought to an abrupt halt, taking the full pressure on her neck

Bogeyface · 30/05/2013 01:40

I have just read the pattern. Good luck to anyone asking their DM/MIL to knit it! It isnt the simplest pattern I have ever seen!

raisah · 30/05/2013 02:39

I want one nevermind my dd.
Your mother is being unreasonable.

Terrorvision · 30/05/2013 02:49

I want one if those for my DD so bad it hurts

bedhaven · 30/05/2013 04:22

That is so special, I've just emailed my Mum to see if she will have a go for my DD 2 and I would secretly love one too.

dd aged 2 has 2 capes Made from Minky. A red riding hood one and a divine aura Turquise one. I have another cut with faux fur to trim. :D

mathanxiety · 30/05/2013 05:09

I made a Red Riding Hood cape for DD4 out of red fleece one Hallowe'en and she wore it going out for two years. She still wears it around the house on chilly days.

mathanxiety · 30/05/2013 05:43

DS wore a Robin cape (Robin and Batman) for years too. It was his flying cape. He would appear on the stairs dressed in the cape and announce this was the day he would take flight.

Smile happy days..

LoveBeingUpAt4InTheMorning · 30/05/2013 05:46

Get it made, get dd to visit grandma, hire wolf to pop out

Nombrechanger · 30/05/2013 05:59

I absolutely love it!

If I had girls, I would definitely get one knitted up for them.

pebblepots · 30/05/2013 06:03

Love it

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 30/05/2013 06:13

Primafacie - very helpful, thank you.

loofet · 30/05/2013 08:04

Stunning, I want!

fuzzypicklehead · 30/05/2013 08:09

My sister knitted superhero capes for both my girls last christmas--they love them! Coupled with the fact that they're actually really warm and cozy, it was a really practical and fun gift.

(now angling for red riding hoods for next year...)

seeker · 30/05/2013 08:12

A cape is a wonderful thing.

But. A knitted cape? Not so sure. It looks really hard to knit, it will get snagged really easily and will be difficult to wash.

And it would be really difficult to make a safe neck fastening on a knitted thing. I would buy some really good quality red fleece or even velvet and get someone to make make one out of that.

elfycat · 30/05/2013 08:13

It's an AIBU with a consensus!

ScarletLady02 · 30/05/2013 08:15

It's soooooooo cute....and I'm the most un-girly girl who never says ANYTHING is soooooooo cute....so that's your answer right there!

ChaoticTranquility · 30/05/2013 09:16

Love it.

ouryve · 30/05/2013 09:20

That's really sweet.

DryCounty79 · 30/05/2013 10:23

I have never before wished so hard that I had a DD, just so that I could ask someone to knit that for her!
