I started a thread about a subject close to my heart - GM Food infiltrating into our supermarkets, see GMO.
However I was bombarded with male posts, not only attacking this subject, but me personally, even using the C word.! I'm no prude but as a first time poster to mumsnet I was really shocked and somewhat disappointed that this site could be used, by men, obviously, to demean and degrade us just because they may happen to disagree.
They were presumably fathers, some of daughters, or if not, we can safely assume that they do at least all have Mothers, and I felt like a fly on the wall at the worst kind of lads night out imaginable.!

Why is mumsnet allowing this to happen despite my reporting them?
More importantly why do men feel so threatened on a site which at least unites us in parenthood, to use such derogatory and offensive terms.?
Shouldn't we all unite in achieving the best future for our kids.?
Shouldn't men loose the attitude or go somewhere else to vent.!

"For my sins I live in London, and all I know is that the C word is a term of abuse, by men to women.!
The worst kind of abuse. Meant only to harm and intimidate and denigrate.
This web site should not be allowing it in general conversation, end of!"

And who made you the class prefect?

For "my sins" I was born in London, nonsensemumof2. For my additional sins I have a ginger cat but I don't suppose either have got much to do with the word cunt.

If this website should be disallowing anything it should be the use of the term "end of!" to conclude a sentence. It is horrific.

By the way, and I'm sure that someone must have told you this already but just in case they haven't, that's a mighty apt user name you've chosen.

TulipsAndWings · 20/05/2013 23:51

For your "sins" you "live in London" and the term cunt is used by men to degrade woman.

Well love I'm sorry but you're missing out. You live in one of the most vibrant, modern cities in the world and you've missed at least 3 decades. I live in the highlands, in the back of beyond, and even women here have embraced the word. My elderly mother commented the other day that she felt more comfortable saying the word cunt than vagina, as vagina made her giggle and cunt is a more solid, serious word.

MissBlennerhassett · 20/05/2013 23:52

Privates! thanks for the advice Grin

Lj8893 · 20/05/2013 23:55

Because cunt is used in so many different ways in life.

Yes, it can be used as an abusive word but that's not actually what it means.

I swear quite a lot including the word cunt, I don't use it as a form of abuse, just as part of my vocabulary.

"My cunt is useful"

"In October I am due to be pushing a baby out of my cunt"

"I can't believe I text the wrong person, what a silly cunt i can be hahaha"

Just a few examples.

JassyRadlett · 20/05/2013 23:55

You obviously live in the wrong bit of London. In my bit, we quite like the word when it's used with the right intent. That's the lovely thing about language. You can give it context and tone.

Mind you, in my bit of London we may not spend enough time appreciating art and chemistry.

Lj8893 · 20/05/2013 23:58

Perhaps the OPs cunt isn't get enough attention.

MaggieMaggieMaggieMcGill · 21/05/2013 00:08

I love my cunt, it's one of the best bits of my body.

Lj8893 · 21/05/2013 00:20

Love thy cunt and thy cunt will love you.

EdwiniasRevenge · 21/05/2013 00:32

Oh shit. I appear to have had a sex change in the last 48hrs....I guess that makes the yoni massage I've booked a bit unnecessary...

MatersMate · 21/05/2013 00:33

By all means do what you feel you have to do or say in your own home.
Supposedly for the means of education? Just dont think for one minute that it relates to anything in the REAL world, at present

Couldn't have put it better myself OP, to you I mean. Honestly don't think MN is for you if you get this wound up about the word cunt. Otherwise...everything whereI said.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 21/05/2013 00:35

Nononsensemum, threads criticising the language of Mumsnet never end well. And cunt, around here, is frequently a term of affection.
If you want to get a proper feel for Mumsnet, can I suggest that you visit Classics and have a browse? Don't miss this thread or this one.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 21/05/2013 00:43

Oops. Except cunt is outdated now. JulieMumsnet says we should all be saying 'possum' instead.

ComposHat · 21/05/2013 00:53

Don't be fooled op you are the only woman on this thread, the rest of us are stout hearty chaps, pretending to be women.

You should hear what we talk about when you've gone. Manly pursuits like woodwork, real ale appreciation and moustache grooming. Things can get a little course sometimes and we talk about our favourite page 3 lovelies...I like Linda Lucardi the best.

Raaraathenoisybaby · 21/05/2013 01:34

*cries with laughter.

Arf at csijanner

Op are you Katie Hopkins?

KhaosandKalamity · 21/05/2013 03:38

CUNT! hehe had to join in. Honestly would much rather be called a Cunt than a Bitch or Uptight Prude/Sexist pointed look at OP, those names and words have an actual offensive meaning and the one and only time my partner called me a bitch he learnt very quickly that any further use of the word (in an offensive manner, telling me not to be a bitch when I am being a bitch is acceptable) will not be tolerated. Cunt is not in itself very offensive, it is the way people respond to the word that gives it it's power. From memory I hear men refer to each other as Cunts more than they refer to women, they call women Bitches, and Skanks, both things we call each other.

Build a bridge and get over it. And maybe have a closer look at your own comments, see if you can spot the sexism, which is not helping the feminist cause, man-hating sisters just enforce decade old propaganda.

scarletforya · 21/05/2013 03:59

misinformed counts made me laugh. Keep thinking of the sesame Street count trying to understand GM issues. Arf!

Tee2072 · 21/05/2013 05:58

They made the N word illegal?!?!? In what country???

And I am one of the people you're talking about from your idiotic thread. I've had a rummage, quite thoroughly, in my pants and can assure you there is no penis there. Only a cunt.

ODFOD

MalcolmTuckersMum · 21/05/2013 07:16

I went looking for my cunt this morning and the bitch growled at me! Growled and bared it's teeth. I don't think it was awake yet. Grin

Dawndonna · 21/05/2013 07:17

My advice would be to call it privates, for the long term,
Pissed myself and now my privates are wet!
FFS Woman, do grow up. You are showing a lack of discernment, intellect and clearly displaying your working class roots. Twee words, such as privates are just that. Fuck, I'd rather use fanny than privates.
Oh, I'm a 54 year old female. I use cunt.

BabyMakesTheBoobiesGoLeaky · 21/05/2013 07:20

cunty cunty cunty cunts

I called my sister an awful cunt yesterday.

Please tell me how you knew the posters were male? Did they give you beer instead of Wine ?

FurryDogMother · 21/05/2013 07:31

You don't need a full stop in front of an exclamation mark, you know. Just trying to help, not being a cunt :)

Tee2072 · 21/05/2013 07:32

Furry I told her that yesterday. Even gave her a visual demonstration. She can't seem to actually read very well.

BumpingFuglies · 21/05/2013 08:02

May I be the first to say that you are all Atrocious Cunts and I mean that most sincerely and affectionately.!

Especially nanny the OP Thanks

CrapsWithBears · 21/05/2013 08:54

You're not a cunt OP, cunts are useful, you don't have the depth or the warmth.

cory · 21/05/2013 08:55

Oooh, do we get some new emoticons now?

Fluffy pink ribbons with the c* word on for a female post, blue with manly language for a male post, stripey for transsexuals?
