I started a thread about a subject close to my heart - GM Food infiltrating into our supermarkets, see GMO.
However I was bombarded with male posts, not only attacking this subject, but me personally, even using the C word.! I'm no prude but as a first time poster to mumsnet I was really shocked and somewhat disappointed that this site could be used, by men, obviously, to demean and degrade us just because they may happen to disagree.
They were presumably fathers, some of daughters, or if not, we can safely assume that they do at least all have Mothers, and I felt like a fly on the wall at the worst kind of lads night out imaginable.!

Why is mumsnet allowing this to happen despite my reporting them?
More importantly why do men feel so threatened on a site which at least unites us in parenthood, to use such derogatory and offensive terms.?
Shouldn't we all unite in achieving the best future for our kids.?
Shouldn't men loose the attitude or go somewhere else to vent.!

I think we'd all forgotten about the protest.

Try to say something intelligent, please, just cos its a wee bit more interesting.

Have you tried taking your own advice?

ConfusedPixie · 22/05/2013 18:20

To be fair, "GMO, MONSANTO, CUNTS, CUNTS, CUNTS!" That does suit and wouldn't be out of place Grin

JerseySpud · 22/05/2013 18:20

Feegle - Having spent my clubbing years in Plymouth i could already swear like a docker. This just added to my vocabulary.

You first?

You could start with some of that evidence in your GM assertions that people have pressed you for. You may well find a lit of sympathetic listeners if you back your claims properly with decent science.

Or you could explain about the virus getting into genes, or how a chicken eating GM feed will lead to the chicken carrying the genes of another animal in its DNA. I enjoyed that.

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 22/05/2013 18:29

Confused - I should be in advertising Wink Grin

Jersey - having been to Portsmouth to visit my RNS ex many moons ago I understand exactly, now WinkGrin

FurryDogMother · 22/05/2013 19:15

OP - are you reading all the responses? At least two of us have pointed out (here, and on your other thread) that you do NOT need a full stop before an exclamation point, and yet, there you are, still doing it. Why, for the love of all that's holy, WHY? These things matter.

5Foot5 · 22/05/2013 19:18

I will admit however that I did think this site was mainly for women with kids. I cant imagine why.? Oh yes it was the NAME of the site !

I have always found it advisable to lurk on a forum for a while to figure out what sort of things they discuss, the nature of the discussion and whether I want to be part of it, before I take the step of posting something myself. Yes, the site is called "mumsnet" but it contains many different forums. Some of them are for specific interest which may, or may not, be relevant to "mothering". But others, such as this one, are of more general interest.

Surely only a small amount of effort in observing this forum should have alerted you to the fact that debate can sometimes be robust. It really isn't on you know to enter a well established forum and start telling people that they should change their behaviour and posting style because you don't like it.

I have looked at your GM thread and I cannot see anything on there to suggest that you were "bombarded with male posts". People disagreed with you, some of them vehemently, but they have a right to do so. It doesn't mean they are "unintelligent" or uncaring mothers.

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 22/05/2013 19:20

5Foot5 - you're a bastard...I'm only 5Foot3 Wink

Fuck off shorty!

nononsensemumof2, my advice would be to step away from the AIBU board. Note what it says at the top of every AIBU thread - "Please bear in mind that whilst this topic does canvass opinions, it is not a fight club." There's a reason why that reminder is there - because generally, it is a bit of a fight club Wink. It's where MNers let down their hair, start joke threads (and expect a score out of ten for how good the joke is), have a rant, and generally behave as if they are among good friends so don't need to stand on ceremony. By coming onto AIBU and demanding that everyone stop swearing, you have done the online equivalent of joining a club and then complaining that you don't like the rules and want them changed NOW. Ain't gonna happen!

If you are looking for more formal communication, have a look among the list of topics for something more specific to your needs than fight club AIBU Smile.

I'd also suggest namechanging so that you can draw a line under this particular faux pas of your (because that's what your posts amount to - sorry, but they do). And sort out your punctuation - it's rather incorrect idiosyncratic and will identify you to many regardless of any namechange.

IneedAyoniNickname · 22/05/2013 19:45

I'm only 5ft 1 :(

seesensepeople · 22/05/2013 19:46

Well, I posted what I thought were some helpful hints for the OP and, unfortunately, I received a barbed response.

Personally, I don't need to put up with rubbish like that from anonymous strangers on an internet forum.

I am usually a very tolerant person but OP I believe you just want to pick a fight with anyone who bothers to type anything on your thread.

As a result I will not be contributing to this thread any further.

However, OP if you wish to send me an apology by PM, I will be gracious and consider it (which is probably more than your foul attitude deserves).

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 22/05/2013 19:53

5Foot5 - I don't need to fuck off...I'm so fucking wee, you canny see me!

IneedA - Don't you bother yourself. Us wee bastards will just start a revolution Wink

IneedAyoniNickname · 22/05/2013 19:53

Actually, I should have said 5ft5 and ItsallisnowaFeegle you're both bastards, I'm only 5ft 1!

(not much of a swearer so find it odd!)

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 22/05/2013 20:13

Ineed - embrace your inner sweary bastard! Swearing is alright, you're an adult Wink

IneedAyoniNickname · 22/05/2013 20:25

I know I can swear, and I do. Just normally only when I'm really trying to make a point, and my mum still tells me off Grin

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 22/05/2013 20:29

Haha! I'm Glaswegian. Fuck is every second word for me. Wink

crashdoll · 22/05/2013 20:35

I'm 5ft 4.5 and you're all cunts. I also don't care about GMO.

Pagwatch · 22/05/2013 21:31

Don't take on so. You are ever such a drama queen.
Stop being so daft. It's nice here. You just can't lecture people in a pompous manner and expect everyone to be relaxed about that.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 22/05/2013 21:33

My cunt wasn't aimed at anyone

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 22/05/2013 21:55
