I'm not talking a discreet dab, but people whose perfume I can smell even when they've left the room.

And if we're eating it spoils my sense of taste.

Ha - had to go, not go go ... Damn iPad

jelepomme · 07/03/2013 20:43

There is a perfume that reminds me of a dinner lady at my primary school. I think of turkey twizzlers and boiled veg every time I smell it. A woman at work had it on today. It makes me feel disgusting.

EmmaBemma · 07/03/2013 20:43

I think the older lady perfume is actually Yardley English Lavender talcum powder, hence powdery smell.

jelepomme · 07/03/2013 20:44

Whoops. So bad I said it twice!

EmmaBemma · 07/03/2013 20:44

they do it in Rose as well, and all other sorts of ghastly floral pongs.

LineRunner · 07/03/2013 20:45

I hate it when people reek of chemicals.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 07/03/2013 21:02

I am getting less and less enamoured with smelly stuff as I get older. Unscented soap, unscented deodorant...

The only thing I want to smell of is clean clothes and me.

whistleahappytune · 07/03/2013 21:10

I totally agree re: Charlie, Angel, Obsession, Poison. Gross! But I love a light spray of something gorgeous. I'm a perfume freak, and seek out the obscure stuff that nobody else wears, but you have to get quite close to me to get a whiff. Perfume wearing should be subtle.

Anything else is just... rude.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/03/2013 21:11

Me too Ariel - I have finally discovered an unscented fabric conditioner which makes me very happy.

DonderandBlitzen · 07/03/2013 21:23

Eternity was one that I didn't like. In my early 20s i used to like the Givenchy perfumes Ysatis and Amarige but i found Givenchy perfumes went off really quickly. I remember spraying one on one hot summer's day, not realising it had gone off and seeing a man on the train wince at the smell! Blush Grin

DonderandBlitzen · 07/03/2013 21:25

I remember the pong of LouLou. I quite like O de lancome, but don't own any. You can be sure that a perfume you like will make someone else feel ill!

Tubegirl · 07/03/2013 21:26

Just a side thought - I actually have no idea how Lush keep their staff because I can't stay in there for more than a minute because the smell is so overpowering it actually gives me a headache.

Sparklingbrook · 07/03/2013 21:29

Sam here Tubegirl. Even walking past the door makes me feel nauseous.

Sparklingbrook · 07/03/2013 21:29

*Same

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 07/03/2013 21:33

I remember my friend going in ans ranting about the stench wafting up and down the high street. Scary! Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/03/2013 21:38

Lush is the exception for me, I am a huge fan and don't have a problem with the smell of their shops at all.

saycheeeeeese · 07/03/2013 21:42

I love lou lou...im 28 and wear it everyday :o

My mum bathes (or at least smells like she does) in Angel and its even more hideous successor Alien.

I love Prada but it triggers migraines.

I'm gutted - I'm wearing Angel - I love it

RevoltingPeasant · 07/03/2013 21:48

Ariel at the risk of derailing, I must ask, what's 'adventure sports, let's say' - ?

Is that a euphemism for something?

Hmm Grin
ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 07/03/2013 21:48

No, it's perfectly non dodgy!

Watersports.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 07/03/2013 21:53

I once offered a nanny a job on condition that she didn't wear her appalling perfume. I'm sure she thought I was a loon but it was something like Opium, and it was really that bad that I could not have managed to cope with having my house and children smelling of it.

Unsurprisingly she didn't take the offer.

goingmadinthecountry · 07/03/2013 21:56

JPG actually makes me sick. I can't stand it or stand being in the same room as anyone wearing it. Been the same since I was pregnant with dd1 20 years ago! Angel is in that bracket. Also cannot abide anywhere that smells of Yankee Candles. Yuk. Who'd want a house to smell like that?

That said, I love perfume and would never leave home without it. Nothing with high vanilla notes.

bootsycollins · 07/03/2013 22:14

I'm quite scent obsessed, I've always got scented candles on the go, I've got a Yankee wax tart melt thingy in the kitchen and a few reed diffusers with Wax Lyrical oils, parma violet is one of my absolute favourites.

For perfume I like clean scents like Armarni Code and Mania, Clinique Happy, Dolce and Gabanna the One and the rose version too and Chanel Allure are all old faithfulls.
