To think people who wear intrusive perfume are unreasonable?

I'm not talking a discreet dab, but people whose perfume I can smell even when they've left the room.

And if we're eating it spoils my sense of taste.

YANBU, have had to endure being sat next to women on the last 2 mornings wearing the most insiduous perfumes. The one on Weds I was tempted to ask what it was as it was one of those that really irritate your nose and I'm afraid it triggered a sneezing fit! Fortunately the vomit worthy whiff of Angel hasn't been on the train (yet).
Isn't perfume just meant to be for the wearer and whoever they snuggle up to, not the entire carriage on the 8.20 to waterloo?

I agree with lalabaloo, my pil slather themselves in perfume/ aftershave. Even after a bath and hair wash I can still smell it on my dds.

Actually I have to put my hand up and say one of my fav perfumes is Samsara by Guerlain and apparently this can have the "Angel" effect on some people Blush

A friend of mine used to go overboard on the Sunflowers by Elizabteth Arden. It stank.

yes. If it can be smelt by anyone not actually in contact, it is too strong.

When I was at university this was dealt with by cries of 'didn't you wash this morning?' and the girls concerned soon learned.

Yanbu! The worst is being stuck by one of these pongers on a plane, there really is no escape from them there and you can't open a window. I get the instant headache too - Joop aftershave is the worst for this and I have forbidden it to be worn by my DH and DS's!

My MIL steeps herself in something hideous that lingers like a fart in a lift - it smells exactly like scented nappy bags!

My DHs aunt REEKS of some kind of hippy like perfume. It's acidic enough to sting your nose...almost like a man's aftershave.

She's a heavy drinker and I think it's to disguise the smell. Maybe that's a common reason?

I have no idea what perfume my mum wears but she drenches herself in it. When she comes to visit the smell lingers for about three or four days after she has gone. Please help with a subtle way to tell her to stop wearing so much and stinking my whole house out...

I was going to say Angel- my mum and sister both wear it, so any gathering of both of them is horrible. It smells like the palmolive shaving foam I used to use on my legs.Grin

But I have recently discovered a far worse smell-whatever it is they pump out of the Hollister store in the Trafford centre. Whatever it is, it is rancid, and lingers under the nose for ages. I am too old to frequent the storeGrin

YAsosoSONBU! I'm mildly allergic to most perfume and there is nothing worse than walking down the street and suddenly finding that I can't breathe because that person I just passed is wearing half a bottle of stench.

As for spray deoderant users in changing rooms, I am the one coughing and spluttering in the cubicle 4 doors down. I am slowly suffocating and I am going to hunt you down and SLAP you if you don't stop.

lurked DSis4 was addicted to Impulse body spray as a teenager. No one wanted to say anything until diplomatic DSis2 walked into dinner one night and said 'Why the hell are you wearing that HIDEOUS perfume, it REEKS'.

It was not subtle. But it did work.

YANBU, I don't like strong perfume AT ALL, I got stuck next to someone in the cinema once wearing Poison, couldn't move as the cinema was full, had one of the worst headaches of my life. I think it is really anti-social to wear them in confined spaces. Those electronic air fresheners make me nauseous too. Even some fabric conditioners are unpleasant to me though, I have a very sensitive nose.

I don't mind a hint of Angel, but a lot of people do drench. I hate Rive Gauche (my mum's favourite), Poison, Giorgio Beverly Hills, Obsession, all those strong 80s ones. Oh and Body Shop White Musk

Yanbu!!!!

Yy to Angel. It makes me want to cry! I am also allergic to anything flowery. My DM had a few Estée Lauder perfumes that made me sneeze instantly in the car. She used to get so annoyed with me!
My DSis wears Jean Paul Gaultier and bathes in it. DC was 2 weeks old and reeked of it once. Drove me mad and I felt so guilty begging her not to wear it as I was sneezing all night long feeding her!

I was remembering the horror that was LouLou (my signature scent through sixth form!) the other night. Can you still get it? The iconic deco style blue bottle, the strongest scent known to mankind .....

I wore a lot of Ysatis too, from memory. Nasty.

My grandmas favourite was Blue Grass, my dh's grandmas favourite is Youth Dew by Estée Lauder, suppose the bottles quite pretty but it has a really fake gold lid and a tacky gold ribbon bow and the actual perfume is brown, pure essence of old ladies it stinks.

My mum also wore Rive Gauche, obsession and does anyone remenber Tweed? Vile. She would wear it in the car. I got motion sickness a lot as a child. I associate all heavy musk based perfumes with sick now Shock
