I've been reading the recent bra threads and love it when people are shocked to discover they are actually a 32F and not a 40A.

So, if you have recently had a bra intervention by Sorrel, SC and others, can you answer the following please:

What size were you wearing?
Who fitted you? (Name and shame please)
What size are you now?

Hang on. I'm going to have to get DH. And the big tape measure, the one for best. Without paint splashes on it.

needabra · 28/02/2013 18:04

MN! I've got boobs!!

I went into m&s feeling like a fraud looking at the DD bras, was really embarrassed actually but I got over it (when the first one I tried on wasn't ridiculous at all and actually fitted quite well). I tried on a range of D, DD and E bras in 34, 36 and 38 bands and generally fitted well into the 36DD ones (DD!!). I've only bought 1 because I want to be sure it fits but it is a nice one, in that style I was a 36D. It's going to take some getting used to the tighter band, I don't really like it tbh but I'm hoping it will grow on me.

Am I the only one to be quite Angry at m&s? I've had all sorts of body confidence issues from their crap sizing advice (I've been going to them all my life :( ) and it is possibly the cause of my back pain too...

Yey Needabra! Now, don't forgot to scoop scoop scoop!

Pull it all in - if it's at the side and spilling out, scoop it in!

eslteacher · 28/02/2013 18:14

Can the Bra Fairies tell me what size I should try next time I go shopping?

Just measured myself (with a cm only tape, hence annoying half measures through conversion)

Under bust: 32.5
Over bust when hanging upside down: 38.5

Currently wear a 34C or 36B.

AgathaF · 28/02/2013 18:14

It's really, really bad that M&S poor fitting service has affected women's confidence like that.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 18:17

Riverboat, start with a 32E and 32F

eslteacher · 28/02/2013 18:19

Wowza. Will do - thanks!

Do you have any tips re: adjusting the straps? How do you know whether you need a different bra size or just to loosen/tighten a bit?

Flojobunny · 28/02/2013 18:19

Just off to find tape measure

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 18:22

The straps are very much fine tuning - they shouldn't be holding your boobs up, just holding the fabric up (if that makes sense) - they shouldn't really be weight bearing. Almost all of the support should be coming from the back. If the back is tight enough then you won't feel compelled to overtighten the straps

pinkyponk67 · 28/02/2013 18:23

Not had a personal intervention as such but thanks to MN I went to Bravissimo and was fitted as 34FF. Previously fitted by NCT bra fitter as 38D. Lovely lady she was but not had Up to date training!

BuffyFairyTopsTheTree · 28/02/2013 18:23

Grin Trazzle! We'll need a night out with our new norkage.

Mine must have been flattened and hanging south for years.

LegArmpits · 28/02/2013 18:25

Update: Lovely DH went into Bravissimo after I sent him a picture of my ill-fitting tittage and got me a 32F (currently in 36D!)
It's gorgeous and actually fits tightly around where it should. However, there's two issue:
a) much back boob not fitting in, so as suggested I think I need a FF or G cup
b) my bosom seemed unnaturally high! Should it really be up there?!
haven't had boobs like that since I was eighteen

slatternlymother · 28/02/2013 18:27

Ahem. 32 inches under, 42 inches over Smile

Flojobunny · 28/02/2013 18:27

37 under, 43 around. Wearing a 36DD.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 18:28

Height - yes, that's where it belongs! Quite scary compared to an M&S style fitted bra though, I would say mine are about 6" higher than they were in the M&S bra fit
Much back boobage - up in the cup is correct

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 18:28

Slatternly - start at 32GG
Flojobunny - assuming the 36 back feels right, try an F cup and scooping/ .

slatternlymother · 28/02/2013 18:30

HOW BIG?! That's massive!!!

Flojobunny · 28/02/2013 18:31

Scooping?
My 36 seems quite loose but they are just cheap ones from George as I put on a couple of stone and went from A to DD (or so I thought)

poppypebble · 28/02/2013 18:34

38 under, 42 around.

Currently wearing a 38B and in serious pain!

Spikeinhiscoat · 28/02/2013 18:34

I'm a bit late to the party, but just wanted to add my thanks to the bra interventionists of MN. After being fitted in M&S as a 34AA, and late-pregnancy fittings at Mothercare where they told me they don't do maternity bras that small, I am now the proud owner of well-fitted bras in a 30D. I love these threads, just wish the high-street caught up with smaller back sizes.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 18:35

Scooping: Put your bra on, then lean forward. Put your right hand round inside the left cup, reaching as far round as you can (I do this infront of a mirror). See all the tissue which creeps over the side of the cup, sticks out under your armpit, or over the backstrap or beside the strap at the back? That's all breast tissue. Grab it, and full it forward (vigorously!) inside the wire. Repeat on the other side.

If the 36 seems loose then you may actually need to go down to a 34, and therefore try a 34FF and 34G. It is quite common for ladies who are slightly "squishy" to need a back size which is smaller than they actually measure in order to get adequate support.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 18:36

Poppypebble try going up to a 38D to start with
Soikeinhiscoat I bet a 30D feels a whole lot different to a 34AA!! And did M&S fitting you in a AA come accompanied with a pitying look and a "we don't do many bras that small" type comment? Cos it always seems to! GRRRRRR
