I've been reading the recent bra threads and love it when people are shocked to discover they are actually a 32F and not a 40A.

So, if you have recently had a bra intervention by Sorrel, SC and others, can you answer the following please:

What size were you wearing?
Who fitted you? (Name and shame please)
What size are you now?

I get the 32 bit but a GG cup?! That's massive, and way off the 36C I wear. Why is my cuppage so big when I'm not spilling out of a C?

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 28/02/2013 18:40

slatternly a GG is not an awful lot bigger than the C cup you have been wearing because the back size has gone down correspondingly.

poppypebble · 28/02/2013 18:41

Thanks - going to go bra shopping after work tomorrow - quite exciting to think I might have some boobs after all.

CelticPromise · 28/02/2013 18:41

Slatternly because the 36 band is too big. A 32E would be the same volume as your current cup, but it would give you about six boobs probably.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 18:41

Have you tried scooping?

The most likely reason is that because the 36 is too big, the cup is kind of sitting on breast tissue at the side. Not everybody will overspill obviously, it just depends on your shape. Try Scooping in to the 36C (fasten it as tight as possible first!). Most people don't realise how far round breast tissue actually goes. Retailers sell bras like this which is actually several cup sizes too small.

Flojobunny · 28/02/2013 18:42

So where is the best place to order one that might fit well with the new sizes?

slatternlymother · 28/02/2013 18:42

But where am I going to get nice bras with cuppage like that?! I can't afford £80+ for posh ones Sad

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 18:44

You don't need to slatternly - check out
leia
brastop
Bravissimo not as cheap but awesome range and still around £30 a bra
www.mycurvesandme.com
Amazon do lots, especially Curvy Kate and Panache for under £15. Debenhams Gorgeous range is also lovely although you may need to try a back size up as they run small.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 18:45

And that answers flojo too!

slatternlymother · 28/02/2013 18:51

I might sell my old bras on eBay. I hear there's a market for that sort of thing Wink

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 18:52

Hmmm...I have lots which don't fit....:)

ZenNudist · 28/02/2013 18:54

I've sat on the train reading these threads feelings 34b Calvin Klein balcony dig in & feel more & more uncomfy.

I'm now so confused about bras I don't know where to start!

I'm a 30.5, 36.5 when I try the 'proper' measuring. Can anyone translate thus into a size for me please?!

I never seem to fill a cup enough when sat down. I'm wholly confused as to what size to look at that wouldn't feel vaguely sore by days end.

I suspect that thread is too full to be able to get help on this. I'm going to read on and see if there is more advice about what the measurements should mean in terms of size!

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 18:57

ZenNudist, try a 30E and 30F to begin with.

ZenNudist · 28/02/2013 18:59

Thank you! That's my lunch break activity tomorrow... Will report back Smile

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 19:00

Have a read through this so you know what a good bra looks like - it's upthread...somewhere!

Testing the band and cup
To test the band size, put the bra on back to front on the loosest hooks. If you can breathe but if feels tight and you can only fit two fingers underneath the wire at the front, then that's the correct back size for you. If it's so tight it's unbearable then go up a size.

The cup will differ much more between brands and styles than the back. Put the bra round the correct way and pop the shoulder straps up, lean forward then take your right hand and put it inside your left cup. Reach right round under your armpit/towards your back and scoop all the backfat/escapage forward in to the cup of the bra. This may require vigour!

Repeat on the other side.

Then put the shoulder straps up and adjust as necessary (not too tight as it's the back that should be doing most of the supporting work). If after scooping you find that you have some bulging over the cup and four-boobage going on, this means you need to go up one or more cup sizes. Keep going up through the cup sizes until all your breast tissue is firmly in place. Once you have put your bra straps up you may well need to repeat the scooping described above but with the straps in place. Breast tissue goes surprisingly far round under the arms which most people don't realise so often their wires are actually sitting on breast tissue.

A good fitting bra?
If your bra is a good fit after doing this it should:

?Be worn on the loosest hook (when new). If you can fasten it on the tightest hook then try a back size lower.

?The band should be completely horizontal

?You should only be able to fit a couple of fingers under the front of the bra. If you can get more than that, or you can pull it more than an inch or so away from your body at the back, it is TOO BIG!

?If you raise your arms, the back should not really move - no riding up

?The wires should be entirely encasing your breast tissue - breast tissue goes surprisingly far back and a lot of people don't realise this. If you feel where the wire is sitting under your arm then it should be sitting on a fairly firm surface.

?The central gore (where the wires meet) should sit flat between your boobs. if it is being pushed away, then the cup is probably too small (and the back possibly too big as well)

?There should be absolutely no lumps over the top of the cup. Take a fitted t shirt with you to put over the top of the bra and stand side on to a mirror and watch as you breathe in. If you have a bit of a bulge only when you breathe in, you probably need to go up 1 cup. If it is visible when breathing out then it's probably more like two cups or more.

?The cup shouldn't gape. If it does, it may be too big or it may be the wrong shape of bra for you. Moulded cups are particularly bad for this as they don't adapt to your shape.

?The shoulder straps shouldn't be painful and digging in. Most of the support should come from the back. If you find that you can't get enough support without the straps being so short they hurt the bra isn't for you. Most likely it's too big in the back but it may also just be a bra that doesn't suit you.

?and on that note; not every brand works for every person. There are quite distinct differences in shape between brands which mean a particular brand may just not suit the shape of your breasts.

Scrabbleyurt · 28/02/2013 19:02

Right, thanks to your help earlier I have now ordered a 28 G (Lordy!!) instead of my usual 36 C. Fingers crossed!

overitalready · 28/02/2013 19:06

Help me please!!

I currently wear a 38c but i know its wrong..feels too high at the back and too loose at the front!

So 43 round the boobies and 38 round the back? Have i done it right?

Thanks in advance!

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 19:09

On measurements, a 38DD. However by the sounds of it you are going to be someone who needs a smaller back than they measure - I would suggest trying a 36E and 36F.

Beksybob · 28/02/2013 19:13

I have measured again, and it gets ever more confusing! Underboob I can get a 31-32 rather than the 32 I said last time. Overboob I'm getting 34 standing up and 36 leaning over. It's all getting a bit silly! I'm the most flat chested person I've ever seen.

Beksybob · 28/02/2013 19:14

Oh, I meant to say 30-31 underboob

MadBraLady · 28/02/2013 19:14

Ahhh. I love these threads. I wasn't fitted on here, but I had a similar revelation when I started reading blogs about it a few years ago. I'm a 30/32 E/F now depending on brand. When I was early 20s (and a stone lighter) I used to wear 34C!

You're just going to have to face it, ladies. You have weeny slender backs and lovely big boobs compared to where you thought you were. Smile You'd think retailers would catch on to this if only because their sales would rocket.

Beksybob · 28/02/2013 19:16

Or maybe 37 over, depding how you measure...

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 19:20

Beksy, start by trying a 30 back. Put the bra on back to front, and do it up. You should be able to get a couple of fingers under, but not much more.

Assuming that is fine, time to sort the cup. I would say start by trying a 30E (which would match the 36 measurement) but read all then info I posted aboit 20 mins ago about what a good bra looks like. Try a dd, and try an F. at least.

If the 30 is genuinely too tight when back to front then try a 32, probably starting at a DDish.

Beksybob · 28/02/2013 19:26

Ha! I'll give it a go. My husband just gave me a very sceptical look when I said in theory I could be a D. The bastard. Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 19:30

Not the best photo but... a real 30E
