I've been reading the recent bra threads and love it when people are shocked to discover they are actually a 32F and not a 40A.

So, if you have recently had a bra intervention by Sorrel, SC and others, can you answer the following please:

What size were you wearing?
Who fitted you? (Name and shame please)
What size are you now?

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 23:56

How is the 32 fitting temporarily? I would say a 32H/HH based on those measurements. Have you tried scooping? and does doing so give you 4 boobs?

ErrorError · 27/02/2013 23:58

Statistically dress size is another minefield! But in most places I seem to be a UK size 12

TemporarilyOutOfOrder · 28/02/2013 00:01

The back feels fine, doesn't ride up or anything but I am constantly having to put my boobs back in, or they ride out and I get the 4 boobs look.
What is scooping?

MurderOfGoths · 28/02/2013 00:01

Oh wow, that's much further back than mine go. No wonder they hurt!

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 00:03

Whilst dress size isn't an entirely accurate guide, at a 12 I would certainly be finding a tape measure as there is a relatively high chance that 34c isn't right after all :) When accurately fitted, most of the 12s I know are smaller in the back

Temporarily...scooping
Put your bra on, then lean forward. Put your right hand round inside the left cup, reaching as far round as you can (I do this infront of a mirror). See all the tissue which creeps over the side of the cup, sticks out under your armpit, or over the backstrap or beside the strap at the back? That's all breast tissue. Grab it, and full it forward (vigorously!) inside the wire. Repeat on the other side.

SOunds like it is too small in the cup anyway, and I suspect once you scoop it will be even worse. So the H doesn't sound entirely crazy!

TemporarilyOutOfOrder · 28/02/2013 00:10

I did the scooping and there was no room to put the extra tissue. Does this mean the cup size I am wearing is too small?

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 00:12

Yes, definitely. If you are getting quad boob and needing to readjust without scooping, then you are probably a good few cups too small. IME, 1 cup too small is actually quite subtle (i.e. only visible when breathing in), 2 cups is visible when scooped, 3 cups is visible even when not scooped territory. So I would actually be trying the H as a start point. But put it on, then scoop, as it may look too big before hand.

JeeanieYuss · 28/02/2013 00:13

Me!!
I was a 38B and am now a 34E !!

measure right around - so the measurement included your back and your breasts.

MurderOfGoths · 28/02/2013 00:28

Measure here

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 00:29

Thank you Murder (the under can be done standing up) - I had been looking for a diagram!

TemporarilyOutOfOrder · 28/02/2013 00:33

Thanks, I'm going to go in a shop and try some on. Be great not having to constantly worry that I'm about to give someone an impromptu flash Smile

Me!
Measured at John Lewis as 40E
Local bra shop (sheen uncovered, highly recommended) pre pregnancy as 34J, now reckon post pg thanks to StatisicallyUnchallenged as 36JJ which is right, and I now have a few more ideas of different bra styles to try for my shape. Can't thank her enough.

Now, how can I persuade my mother that she really isn't a 36B because that's the size she's worn since 1965? Seriously, she's a size 10, the back rides up almost to her shoulders, and she spills out over the cups. I would say she's a 30 back, F cup but according to her, an F cup is obese!!

AbyCat · 28/02/2013 00:47

Oh fart, sincere apologies, I meant StatisicallyChallenged !

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 00:47

Just let them "hang free" BruisedFanjo. Post your sizes up here and someone will advise. Essentially the underbust is your band, and each inch is a cup size as a bare starting point, and most most people who are in between (i.e. measure an odd number) get on better with the back size below. Cups go A,B,C,DD,E,F,FF,G,GG,H,HH,J,JJ,K,KK,L

So if you measured 31 and 40, you would probably try a 30GG, 30G, 32FF and 32G.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 00:50

Ha it's ok AbyCat, given my job I should be StatisticallyUnchallenged!

Can you take your mum to the fitting place? ALternatively, have a look for good blogs. The one I have linked to upthread is good. Also, try investinyourchest and brasIhate. The girls on those two blogs are all slender and F+ cups. You could print their photos (loads of them in bras!) and ask her what size they are then make her fall over when she finds out they are an FF/G/H etc

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 00:51

And there is a picture on the butterfly blog (linked somewhere up there!) that shows d cup bras all lying in a row...demonstrates beautifully how cup changes with back.

In answer to the OP:

What size were you wearing? A variety, mainly 36 or 38DD or E
Who fitted you? (Name and shame please) M&S, multiple times, always thought there was something wrong with my shape as could never find a comfortable bra other than a sports bra.
What size are you now? 34G with underwires that actually sit against my skin and seperate my bosoms rather than them slipping down the gap in the middle!! Smile

I am going away this weekend with some friends and I know I will be boring them silly about bra fitting after a few glasses of wine.

SorrelForbes · 28/02/2013 07:31

I do that too but how can anyone be bored talking about bra fitting? Wink

Binkyridesagain · 28/02/2013 07:33

Forsale, take a tape measure with you, you will need it, now you know what a well fitting bra looks and feels like you will want to show everyone.Smile

OrangeLily · 28/02/2013 07:35

Right ladies here's another one to do!

33 under bust and 43 over!

Was wearing a 34FF until recently Bravissimo made me a 34G but in one of their small made bras I'm a 34GG?
