Backstory here

why oh why am I setting myself up for another arsekicking?

Just got a text from cousin's mum (my aunt) as cousin does not have my number (intentionally actually) "Hi jst so u no my baby shower will be in June so dont make eny plans!" (forwarded message written by cousin)

WHAT??

So 1. You're doing a fucking save the date for an occasion designed for people to lavish gifts upon you? Hmmmm kay.... and 2. No-one can make any plans for the entire month of June, lest they miss the chance to come and shower you with gifts?

Would I BU to text back "Just fuck off"?

Birthday parties? People have to bring presents for those too.

Disclaimer: I hate the whole idea of baby showers, have never had one or been to one or been invited to one though. I saw some photos of one on FB once. People who had never had children were passing around a pooey baby's nappy for the unfortunate pregnant person to sniff. It looked awful.

Yeah but birthday parties are usually where guests get to join in a party and it's associated festivities i.e dancing/booze/buffet.

A baby shower is a polite way of saying "Present Giving Gathering"

Fucking hilarious thread!

I was at a comedy gig last week where the comedian reckoned Ireland was the only place cunt was employed as a compliment. He obviously hasn't been on mumsnet.
You're a judgy cunt, Bupcakes, but at least you're an honest cunt, and the sickly combination of text speak and entitlement flaunted by your cuzzi makes her fair game as far as I'm concerned.

Makes myself unavailable for the entire months of Feb and March just in case this is planned for my BS.

my uni friends came up to visit and threw me a surprise baby shower, it was fab, we briefly cooed over the toys (ELC outlet tastic) then went out for dinner. No poo discussed.

Yes it looked like a particularly sad initiation ceremony.

It was like something out of The Office. I could just imagine the awkward silence and the pregnant person cringing the whole time.

I might be wrong, it may have been great fun.

Confused

Hmmm not sure what I think about this thread.

Yeah your cuz sounds like a moronic chav. I used to have "friends" like that on my FB, which I kept for my own bitchy entertainment and eye-rolling. Until I realised how pathetic and petty it was.

I had a baby shower. By that I mean we went out for naice cakes and sandwiches. I told people they really did not have to buy presents, I just wanted their company for an afternoon! It was an opportunity for me to get dressed up at 8 months pregnant and feel good about myself and have a nice day out. What's wrong with that? Outside of the sniffy judgey pants circles some MNers roll in, you'll find they're quite normal (eg especially in Australia, NZ and Singapore) - and most are not the stereotypical grabby tack-fests you're all going on
about! In fact I've never been to one like that, they're all quite simple tea-cake-chat affairs.

I think you need to get off MN a bit more and occupy your mind and time with more positive activities. I hope you don't go on about (your admittedly feckless) cousin to people in RL, because most people will quietly think to themselves what a dreary person you are. And I'm sure you're not that dreary, really!

Life's too short to whinge about chavs, innit?

I can just picture the buffet, it'll be greige like that one on the sadly deleted bad cake thread. :o I had to check the colour settings on my monitor.

I don't think this is a very nice thread. Cousin's crime appears to be young and pregnant and to mistakenly think the OP has any interest in her life. Perhaps you should be honest to her about your loathing OP and then you can both get on with your lives without each other.

Hmmmm I don't go on about her in RL, I use Mn to vent but apparently venting on here means that I have no friends to vent to irl. It's a minefield.

Incidentally, a baby shower typically isn't what you just described, Sara. A baby shower by its very nature is an occasion for showering expectant mum with gifts.

If you think that my problem is that she is young and pregnant then I think you may have misread me, Northern. Even if she was 40, she is not in a very good situation to be bringing a baby.
