I get it, it's going to snow.

There will probably be a bit of snow for a few days round here.

I spent the best part of an hour queuing in Sainsburys seething quietly and politely waiting my turn to pay to do my normal weekly shop.

FFS it's some slightly bad seasonal weather, NO ONE can eat THAT many tins of muligtawny soup.

They should have their own queue then they can all stand together with thier blitz like behaviour and their preparedness and not get in my friffing way when I have other things to do like come here to whine about them

Oh lord is it that bad? See I do need to go shopping but refuse to look like some panicking knob end.

Just back from Morrisons, exactly the same. It was like Christmas bloody Eve. I was only there to buy stuff for the weekend booze as we are going away.]

I heard a couple in the queue behind me saying "oh isn't it busy? People must have the same idea as us getting supplies in before the snow"

I felt like saying - we are not in Siberia you know where we are about to be snowed in for months.

But of course, I didn't!

usually i'd agree with you, but have just sent DH an email with shopping list on it

our roads are really bad, not cleared from beginning of the week and are set for lots more snow and temps of -13 were recorded not far from us last night

My mum always used to panic buy kidney beans, but we never ate them at any other time (or in fact when it snowed unless we absolutely had to). I remember counting 17 tins in our cupboard once.

If it snow its half the fun to get the sledge out, go up to the local Spar and bring supplies home.

Oh, bollocks. I always do my shopping on a Thursday. The bank account is in a January slump so we've already eaten most of the tins and freezer stuff. But as long as people are only buying mulligatawny soup, it should be fine.

it's mad out there - popped into our Sainsburys for coffee, school cardies and apple juice - couldn;t park - then it was rammed full of people stockpiling bread!

I don't need to panic buy, I am fully prepared and have food to last us for four years in our nuclear fall-out shelter

Back in real life, I live within walking distance of a Tesco and a Morrisons, I think I might survive!

Maybe they all have sixteen kids, an elderly MIL living with them and five dogs and will genuinely need 10 sliced pans, fourteen boxes of cornflakes, six tons of potatoes and 20 tins of Mulligatawney soup to see them through til Monday morning. Don't be so judgey OP.

I went to local supermarket and tried to find a parking space just to go in and get a few bits, no chance, never managed to find a parking space, got fed up of driving round in circles and came home, will try again later!

Its the same every year, people think they'll starve if we have 2 days of snow. Do you remember the tanker driver strikes few years ago when we had petrol shortages? I went to Asda innocently thinking I fancied some crusty bread for tea and it was carnage. Not one single bread product of any description on the shelves, they had even sold out of flour and yeast

There is no situation dire enough that anyone would need to consume 20 cans of Mulligatawney soup!

Apparently Sainsbury's sponsored the weather forecast this week.

I've no objection to a bit of preparedness but just break out the 'panic buying till' and leave the rest of us who just want to get our normal shop done without being forced into jolly conversations with strangers about how everyone has 'had the same idea!!!' I haven't...I'm always here doing shopping on Thursday..... I'm not 'stocking up' because I'm pretty sure I can cope with 2 days of not going to the supermarket....

hahahaha - I work in a supermarket in NE Scotland (relatively rural, 20 miles north of Aberdeen), and this happens every bloody year! We will have snow, poss snowed in for a couple of days worst case, then back to normalish its the same every year.
My colleagues & I do like a chuckle at it!

ah yes, but Northampton is in a parallel universe, bereft of outside intervention and the a43 is always dead slow

atthewelles you're clutching at straws... No one needs to buy that much food for 3 days.

Again, I'm not saying don't panic buy, just asking AIBU to suggest to Sainsburys that they have a dedicated till - they could run a very successful advertising campaign a'la their Christmas Days effort.

If it's still ike this next week I'm going in full survivalist gear, combats/nightvision googles/OFRS the lot.
