There should be a special bloody till in Sainsburys for Panic Buyers

I get it, it's going to snow.

There will probably be a bit of snow for a few days round here.

I spent the best part of an hour queuing in Sainsburys seething quietly and politely waiting my turn to pay to do my normal weekly shop.

FFS it's some slightly bad seasonal weather, NO ONE can eat THAT many tins of muligtawny soup.

They should have their own queue then they can all stand together with thier blitz like behaviour and their preparedness and not get in my friffing way when I have other things to do like come here to whine about them

i could make some kind of satanic trifle Grin

meditrina · 17/01/2013 20:05

Well, the order turned up, and the driver was unmolested.

But there was one missing (bread) item: how will I cope with no foccacia? Shock

ariadneoliver · 17/01/2013 20:07

I feel rather left out of the panic buying, I popped into M&S Simply Food after work and bought two tubs of Tomato and Basil soup, but only because it was a buy one get one half price offer. There seemed to be a lack of urgency among the shoppers and plenty of milk and bread left. I'm guessing that central London is not gripped with panic. Grin

Glittertwins · 17/01/2013 20:08

I managed to get my whole regular delivery tonight. No substitutions and I even managed 4 cartons of soup and loo rolls on there. Didn't realise that they are on the panic buyers' most wanted list!

RuleBritannia · 17/01/2013 20:10

We have half an inch of snow forecast (if that). Oh dear, I have only 6 slices of bread left! Will I be able to last until Saturday when a neighbour will take me to Sainbo's? We take turns and it's his turn this Saturday.

Spuddybean · 17/01/2013 20:11

ooooh Glitter, i'll trade you some trifle sponges for a bog roll?

LizaTarbucksAuntie · 17/01/2013 20:13

Just to point out again I'm not anti the panic buyers at all...

Just think they need to be appropriately catered for...

Trifle? Cool, I have a 9 pack of loo roll ;-)

MustafaCake · 17/01/2013 20:16

Just popped to local Co-op for emergency wine rations (non snow related purchase) and I was the only person in there!

I can confirm that London is not gripped with panic at the predicted light dusting of wet sleet.

MsTakenidentity · 17/01/2013 20:17

simplesusan - I imagine the Tesco burgers are still there > I say neighhh - although this entirely depends how long snowmageddon lasts Wine

LizaTarbucksAuntie · 17/01/2013 20:18

Spuddy, I'll give you a 12 pack of ultrasoft and throw in a pack of moist toilet wipes for the trifle sponges... #biddingwar

I tried to panic buy but I just ended up with two bags of haribo and a tin of pears :/

TandB · 17/01/2013 20:19

I went panic buying in the tesco metro on the way home from work.

I panic bought a lot of milk, a loaf of bread, some broccoli, 2 microwaveable chocolate puddings and a tub of cream, 2 jars of pesto, 3 onions and a bottle of olive oil.

Given that the snow is likely to last for all of 6 minutes, I think that should see us through.

I did run up and down the aisles screaming "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE" just to get in the spirit of things though.

Spuddybean · 17/01/2013 20:19

wow, who new trifle sponges would become the new currency come snowmageddon.

TandB · 17/01/2013 20:21

It's like all the apocalypse/zombie/killer flu films. We saw Contagion on DVD the other week - about a week into the flu epidemic and people were killing each other for food and looting the supermarket.

I reckon we wouldn't start panicking before week 4, although our diet might get a bit monotonous. Doesn't anyone in movie-land have anything in the freezer?

LittleMissFantabulous · 17/01/2013 20:26

Mustafa I have been in a Co-Op tonight too, very quiet. I accidentally bought a box of chocolates and a loaf. Not a panic loaf mind you, just a 'fuck we're out if bread and I want cheese on toast' loaf:o

Spuddybean · 17/01/2013 20:27

my mum shops like it's the apocalypse every week. 8 tins of beans and 240 teabags just for her and dad Confused

in the event of the dead rising from their graves, it's all round to my mums!

GetOrf · 17/01/2013 20:28

Bloody sainsburys earlier - full of maniacs and empty of bread, milk, all sorts. People are bloody insane.

TandB · 17/01/2013 20:29

My cousin lives in rural New York State and they have a proper apocalypse stash in their basement. Seriously you open the basement door and do this face Shock

They could feed the entire state for a year.

Bluestocking: 'Panic buyers from Dartmoor heading to Waitrose in Exeter' > No cause for alarm whatsoever .. Blush

manicbmc · 17/01/2013 20:30

Tesco's have half a horse in the freezer Grin

SurroundedByBlue · 17/01/2013 20:38

I don't have the energy to panic buy - 38 weeks pregnant and can't face doing a normal shop never mind an extra busy one. I have a tub of quality street (no pink fudge ones left though Sad) a packet of cookies and a packet of mini eggs. Should see me and the dc through any food shortage. Might get ds1 to watch a few episodes of one born every minute though, just incase....

MsTakenidentity · 17/01/2013 20:40

manicbmc:'Tesco's have half a horse in the freezer' > Sigh... RIP Shergar Wink

Pandemoniaa · 17/01/2013 20:40

in the event of the dead rising from their graves, it's all round to my mums!

She'll be very useful when the Zombie Invasion kicks off. We can all arm ourselves with tins of beans. Result = Spuddybean's Mumsbeans Team 1 - 0 Invading Zombies.

OpheliasWeepingWillow · 17/01/2013 20:42

I have 140 tea bags for the snow and a shovel to doink zombies on the head.

Prepared
