I get it, it's going to snow.

There will probably be a bit of snow for a few days round here.

I spent the best part of an hour queuing in Sainsburys seething quietly and politely waiting my turn to pay to do my normal weekly shop.

FFS it's some slightly bad seasonal weather, NO ONE can eat THAT many tins of muligtawny soup.

They should have their own queue then they can all stand together with thier blitz like behaviour and their preparedness and not get in my friffing way when I have other things to do like come here to whine about them

Having been snowed in since Tuesday, I managed to get out today, and bought loads, because I'm going to be snowed in again, until next Tuesday, at the very least.

Like others, I will manage on the leftovers from Christmas....

  • Mince pies
  • half a box of crackers for cheese
  • a tub of salted peanuts
  • the chocolates nobody likes
  • chicken crisps leftover from multipacks
  • a bit of christmas cake
  • mulled wine

Panic buying a couple of loaves of bread is a bit amateur though.

Add batteries, candles, matches, tinned everything, a torch, a spade, powdered milk, dried beans, some screwdrivers, chocolate, boiled sweets and a crate of clementines. That's panic-buying.

Don't forget the wind-up radio.

Hmm, we have about 12hours between now and Wed next week where we aren't meant to have snow falling. I have to admit to going and buying some extra bread and milk today, as living at the top of a mountain we might not have great road access for a while. That said our local highways team are fab at keeping the roads clear, and I can't praise our gritters/snow ploughs highly enough, so it probably wasn't entirely necessary. As long as I can get through the 30cm of snow onto a main road... as it takes about 3 days before they clear the residential cul-de-sacs.

If it wasn't -7 outside, I'd be really tempted to go Sainsbury right now just to watch the panic buyers. Grin

I went to Tesco this morning (actually just for birthday cards & costa coffee Grin) it was busy, but most people looked to just have a fairly normal shop - but I did eye up the trolley of the woman in the queue next to me - I couldn't quite decide if it was panic buying or if she just had a lot of kids Grin

I went to Sainsburys this afternoon and didn't buy any food at all, just socks and magazines - I'm now feeling very left out! But it wasn't very busy anyway (Yorkshire).
If we do get snowed in we can definitely live off remaining Xmas chocs (DS would be thrilled!) and cupboard food. I keep a few cartons of UHT milk in the cupboard all the time anyway for when DH goes on a hot choc binge and I find there's no milk left in the morning - I don't function without a cup of tea first thing so finishing the milk is nearly a hanging offence in our house.

Read the weather thread, but none the wiser tbh! Have posted on there asking about North Essex, as DD came home with a letter urging us to listen for school closures on the radio at 7am.

I nearly popped into Sainsburys for some bananas on the way home, I'm glad I couldn't be arsed.

I did buy a lot of batteries today, but they were for Thomas the Tank Engine - I haven't really got the hang of this, have I.

What are you supposed to use your panic-bought batteries for?

I went to Asda for plums and salad this afternoon and it was quite civilised (for Asda). Maybe the welsh are just a hardier folk.

I have got an internet shopping tonight 8pm-9pm with Sainsburys, I didn't do an extra large order - just a weekly shop, but do hope that I get some sliced bread and milk that I ordered - will be really annoyed if they turn up later and tell me that they haven't got any in the shop.

Virgil · 17/01/2013 18:37

No bread left in our village shop, milk running short and shop assistants telling everyone that its ok they will be open tomorrow.

Nobody is listening though - mind you we do live miles out and often get snowed in.

Not panicking here,

Walking distance from Aldi, Tesco, Co-op, Sainsburys, a couple of corner shops and 3 bakeries. Surely ONE of them will have some bread left.

i had no idea what this thread was about and clicked it thinking it was going to be a hypothetical zombie apocalypse thread. i had no idea we were all meant to be panic buying. i had no idea snow was coming! i feel totally unprepared now.

i feel like that bit in shaun of the dead when he goes to the shops oblivious to the carnage around him.

is it worth putting ds in his snowsuit and trudging to tesco to run around the aisles grabbing whatevers left? probably not much now! maybe we could survive on a tin of sardines, a packet of sponge fingers and some cif...
