There should be a special bloody till in Sainsburys for Panic Buyers

I get it, it's going to snow.

There will probably be a bit of snow for a few days round here.

I spent the best part of an hour queuing in Sainsburys seething quietly and politely waiting my turn to pay to do my normal weekly shop.

FFS it's some slightly bad seasonal weather, NO ONE can eat THAT many tins of muligtawny soup.

They should have their own queue then they can all stand together with thier blitz like behaviour and their preparedness and not get in my friffing way when I have other things to do like come here to whine about them

Panic buy

UptoapointLordCopper · 17/01/2013 17:04

If we get snowed in we'll eat the toffee cream sweets, the big box of snack mix, the big box of maltesers and a big bag of chocolate coins plus various chocolate bars and a big bag of pistachio nuts left over from Christmas and DS1's birthday party. And 3 bottles of wine. Gin is a bit low though. And no tonic water!!! Now is that a reason to panic buy?

manicbmc · 17/01/2013 17:04

That's not panicking though, that's just looking out for the old people and making sure they have enough in. Most other people can manage to get through a bit of snow and get to a shop.

poorbuthappy · 17/01/2013 17:06

Well I have a proper reason to panic...
We have no wine!!!
We have gin, tonic, whiskey, lemonade, advocaat and our local pub (and my place of work) at the end of the road.
So perhaps we will be ok after all. Grin

poorbuthappy · 17/01/2013 17:07

Oh and we are on a red warning.
Red wine warning maybe?

Pandemoniaa · 17/01/2013 17:07

We've got 5 cases of wine. If only we weren't devisttated by snow you could pop down and have a couple of bottles.
Wink

LavenderBriggs · 17/01/2013 17:08

True, but maybe some of the older shoppers are dreading walking on ice and want to get a bit extra. To be honest I dread walking on ice, I'm barely stable on a decent pavement.

I have just been to waitrose to buy 25 tins of frey bentos pies and 60 bags of home fries

Bluestocking · 17/01/2013 17:11

Not sure I'm entirely happy with seeing the words "squirty" and mulligatawney soup" in the same post.

manicbmc · 17/01/2013 17:14

Toomuchtea, don't use the yellow snow! Wink

meditrina · 17/01/2013 17:15

I've an on-line order due this evening (placed several days ago, so clearly I was suffering from premature-panickation).

Now, will the driver be mugged between street and doorstep by ravening hordes who have failed to panic buy and are suffering Ocado-envy?

EldritchCleavage · 17/01/2013 17:16

Yes, uptoapoint, I'm in a tonic water deficit panic right now.

Lol at "23 mile an hour winds"-I get those every time DH farts.

Don't forget tampons, everybody. I panic buy those regularly-fewer than 1000 in the house and I get twitchy.

Worried about my parents a bit, though they've got lovely neighbours who'll help, and 'The World's Ugliest Snow Boots' they bought 2 years ago in a Guardian newspaper reader offer.

Florin · 17/01/2013 17:19

I only popped into Waitrose to buy a cucumber and it was like Christmas Eve in there everyone buying 4 loaves of bread and at least 8 pints milk. They had sold out of a lot of veg and no sodding cucumbers-what am I meant to put in my Gin and Tonic now?

Jins · 17/01/2013 17:19

Phew I'm ok again. The light snow that was predicted on the weather for tomorrow has now changed to grey cloud

manicbmc · 17/01/2013 17:20

More gin? Grin

meditrina · 17/01/2013 17:20

Florin a drop of angostura, and none of this tonic malarkey.

DonderandBlitzen · 17/01/2013 17:24

I feel a bit dim now. I went to Sains this morning and there were tons of pensioners. I thought "Wow it must be because it is pension day, I had no idea it got so busy on pension day, will have to avoid in future." Blush Didn't occur to me that it was snow related.

Absy · 17/01/2013 17:25

I'm panicking now that I should be panic buying. I did once - -I bought two tins of soup which then went uneaten until way past their expiry date.

I feel I'm missing out on something. Should I?

CockyPants · 17/01/2013 17:27

WIBU to bring my main food shop forward from tomorrow to today? No mulligatawny soup, OP, but a 12 pack of walkers cheese and onion that was cheaper than a 6 pack....

merrymouse · 17/01/2013 17:28

Actually that makes sense lavender. We live near south coast so quite a large percentage of the population would be the proverbial grannies on a frosty morning once it gets a bit icy. Sure they'd rather be inside with a cuppa tomorrow.

HazeltheMcWitch · 17/01/2013 17:33

I honestly believe that if my mum looks back on her life, 3 of her Top 5 Moments will be related to her Millenium Cupboard. Honestly, she spent the majority of her life in rural, isolated Scotland, but 'retired' to the Home Counties. Inspired by Richard Madely, In a Y2k special, she went Millenium Cupboard Kerazee . She planned it, she bought it, she bought more. She tidied it, bought more. She boasted about her preparedness, and tried to inspire The Fear in others.

She will no doubt have visited 3 supermarkets today, stocking up on Mulligatawny AND Oxtail. And UHT milk and tinned peaches. She bloody loves winter.

UptoapointLordCopper · 17/01/2013 17:37

No need to panic buy tampon if you've got a mooncup. Wink

BlackBagBorderBinLiner · 17/01/2013 17:38

I have no wine in, would the AA being the 'Fourth Emergency Service' deliver?

MerryCouthyMows · 17/01/2013 17:43

Does all this panic buying mean there is more snow coming tonight?

And if so, is Essex meant to be affected?

Thinking about it, Tesco did seem busier than usual for a Thursday morning this morning...

And I need bread to or row as I forgot it today. Poo.
