Chatting with some other mums this afternoon it emerged that two of them iron their dh shirts. Not as s favour as they were ironing some of their own shirts, but because their dh expects it!

I admit, I seldom iron my own clothes, I choose ones that don't need ironing, or if its a shirt I'll do it for myself, I'd do dcs when they're older, but no way dh, he can and does do his own, he wears a shirt everyday so has a few...

Aibu to believe in this day and age men should be doing their own ironing and also their share of housework? do I live in a feminist bubble?

I think the key part of the OP is the bit that says their DHs "expect" them to do their ironing. That to me doesn't sound like an equal partnership or like they expect their DHs to do anything in return. It would be the expectation that I would do it that would really fuck me off. I do do most of the ironing in our house purely because it's one of the things that need doing around the house that I quite enjoy and DH does other stuff in return. But if DH didn't have a shirt ready for work he'd iron one himself, he wouldn't come to me whining that I hadn't ironed any possibly because he knows where I would tell him to stick the iron.

If you genuinely enjoy ironing or your DH makes up for not doing the ironing by cooking, cleaning or whatever, fine, but if you feel like you can't say no to your partner and tell him to fuck off and iron his own shirt if you want to then I really don't understand why you'd be in a relationship with him.

DP might be showering or feeding the baby or gazing at the garden with a mug of tea in his hand. Whatever. If shit needs ironing, it gets ironed.
