AIBU to be a bit fucking sick of troll threads

Another one goes poof. The "friend of boyfriend climbed into bed with me". Amongst many others.

Starting to wonder what is the point in posting anything supportive. To anybody.

OP posts:

You're right Maryz.
And I do report, and like you, I have a radar, where threads just don't ring true.
But the rools say report, which I do, I don't want to risk a ban on MN, because I love it here, but it seems to have happened to other posters who were a bit outspoken.
And because I like it here I'm very careful what I say these days.
Which IMO gives the trolls free range, because if you ever doubt, you will be deleted.
MN needs to look at their guidelines again in the NY.
Until then I'm dumbed down.

ClippedPhoenix · 21/12/2012 00:43

you might be unable to have a proper relationship due to inadequacies but im sure we can help you with that?

Littleblue · 21/12/2012 00:46

My love life is a troll magnet.... do I get to bitch about that...? ( evening all )

ClippedPhoenix · 21/12/2012 00:49

Everyone is dumbed down these days not just on MN. It's like a PC plague. Trolls don't bother me on here probably because i don't have any real issues, in saying that if i did i'd know who to go to due to being on here a long time. I also think anyone who has a genuine problem has read quite a bit in relationships so they know???

Ifyoulike · 21/12/2012 00:52

Both trolls and troll-hunters directly hurt real people.

With trolls, people get emotionally drained and hurt at what is essentially a betrayal of their good will, and with troll-hunters, real people who need help end up getting jeered at.

I do think there should a way to get suspect threads looked at more quickly (and sorted by MN), but I'm well aware there are only so many hands on deck, and that they've got a huge site to run!

ClippedPhoenix · 21/12/2012 00:54

Goodwill is at it does, it comes from the person giving it whether the other is worthy or not.

PS. if you're very sad then PM me...

theodorakisses · 21/12/2012 05:52

I am sick of bashing anyone who doesn't have extreme left wing views and the constant inflammatory and trolling threads created just to bash anyone who doesn't think that thatcher started everything that ever happened. This forum is like a sixth form common room sometimes.

BelleDameSousMistletoe · 21/12/2012 06:34

And I'm sick of right wingers who think Thatcher was a goddess and can't see what she covered up and caused for us now. However, I don't limit that to MN.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 21/12/2012 06:39

I am entirely sick of the whole bloody thing now.

At least half the threads I read infuriate me because they are so utterly inconsistent they cannot possibly be true.

And when the inconsistencies were pointed out on a thread yesterday, when people including me told the OP, actually that could not have happened, the whole "I'm being persecuted, I just wanted support" came out and people then rush in and say "don't be nasty to the op, she's struggling etc etc"

I have hidden so many threads and actually I have hardly posted lately cos I have absolutely no idea what is true any more.

StickEmWithThePointyEnd · 21/12/2012 06:45

There will always be trolls.

I don't understand what the point of moaning about them is though. It just feeds them more.

If a thread goes poof it doesn't actually matter.

TandB · 21/12/2012 07:19

Rainbow - when you say you posted a silly thread about ear-piercing, do you mean you posted something that you didn't mean and which caused upset?

If so, then that is trolling. Add that to the fact that you used a different account (presumably from the same IP address?) and MNHQ are going to draw the obvious conclusion.

theodorakisses · 21/12/2012 07:42

I am as left wing as most mners, doesn't mean I like trolling and bullying.

amillionyears · 21/12/2012 07:51

Can I ask, are they mainly appearing on chat and relationships?

MaryChristmaZEverybody · 21/12/2012 07:52

It's all very well to say at trolls, and what does it matter.

But it matters because genuine posters with real issues get ignored while the troll threads get all the attention.

And although in theory there is sensible advice given that might help other people, in fact it doesn't because when the thread is deleted (as it often is) that advice disappears and vulnerable people reading think "I can't ask for help, people will think I've made it up".

Personally, though, I think one of the major problems is very, very gullible people believing everything without question, no matter how obviously innane, ridiculous and inconsistent it is.

MaryChristmaZEverybody · 21/12/2012 07:54

All over the place amillion - more in chat, relationships and aibu simply because those are busier boards. But any thread has the potential to be a pile of shite - it's the op's reaction to replies that gives it away. Not the original post, which can be very strange but true (half my life is strange, but sadly true), but the way the op pounces on anyone who asks any sort of intelligent question or tries to clarify facts, and ignores any good advice given. That's the clue that the person doesn't actually want help, just a bunfight and attention.

Rainbow, are you really saying you started one joke thread and got banned for it? Because that seems most unlikely Xmas Confused

I think that illustrates part of the problem.
Some people start 'jokey' threads, possibly thinking that they will amuse and entertain.
They are very rarely funny and are therefore just trolling to the rest of us.

One mans jokey thread is another mans tedious shite.

FanjoTimeMammariesAndWine · 21/12/2012 08:31

YANBU re the troll threads, they aren't even funny, just slightly stilted weird attempts at real life situations which aren't even that interesting.
