JakeBullet · 21/12/2012 08:42

Big hello to Kaylasmum.....am here to say Hi as i promised Smile. Hope you are feeling better at a new day.

helpyourself · 21/12/2012 08:50

((( Kaylas )))
It is for once a sunny day here- I hope you're feeling calmer. Did you keep the children off? DD2, normally a teenage gadabout wants to spend the day with me, so that's a lovely silver lining for me at least!

InExitCelsisDeo · 21/12/2012 09:03

Hang on folks - it is meant to be sometime just after 11.

But it is already tomorrow somewhere in the world .......

Hope your are OK Kayla.

kaylasmum · 21/12/2012 09:45

Awe thank you all for thinking about me. Got to admit i'm still quite worried as everyone is saying that its gonna happen some time around 11am, so anxiety is pretty much picking atm.

I did keep the kids at home, i just could'nt send them. If all goes well i'm going back to my gp to see if they can referr me back to cbt.

Well I'll be icing my Christmas cake at 11am- the icing is rock hard, so I'm letting it warm up wasting time here, and waiting for DD's christmas present which should arrive before midday.
Anxiety is a nightmare, I suffered from it quite paralysingly but CBT helped a lot. Xmas Smile

Yeah it does, i was very ill last year with anxiety. I could'nt eat and lost 3 stone in 3 months, had stomach problems, numbness in my left side and a tremor in my left hand, all thought on by severe anxiety. Not been so bad this time thankfully so my cbt was'nt completely in vain.

11 has passed- have a Brew and enjoy the day.

SledsImOn · 21/12/2012 11:03

Oh are we still here? Bugger it, I'll have to give birth Xmas Grin

Flisspaps · 21/12/2012 11:21

kaylasmum are you taking your children to school now? The last day before Christmas is usually LOADS of fun, the apocalypse hasn't happened and they can still join their friends for the rest of the day.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 21/12/2012 11:27

Kaylasmum

Just coming to this thread.

You could look at this in the light of some of the skills you probably learnt through CBT.

You had a strong feeling of anxiety, you talked to people about it to test if others felt the same which they didn't, so you then bravely managed to wait things out even though you felt anxious to see if what you feared would happen, what you feared didn't happen. So now you can look at what you have learnt e.g.

  • The strength of your fear does not equal the likelihood of something happening i.e. just because you feel very worried does make it more probable the bad thing is going to happen.
  • If most people are really really not worried about something then may be your fear is not based on a correct assessment of the risk.
  • You can manage your fear and still function.
  • You are stronger and braver than you think.

Hi, feeling so much better now but won't totally relax until just past midnight!

My dsis came down with presents today so that stopped me keeping a check on the time. I do think that i've handled this better than thought i would but Would have preferred not to have been worrying all this time.

It was only half day at school today so Can't take them in now. Thanks to everyone for the help and reassurance you've given me, it really helped.

Yeah, Rocking, and yeah kaylasmum and others!

ApplesinmyPocket · 21/12/2012 16:37

ChazsBrilliantAttitude what brilliant advice you gave in your post of 11.27.40. I don't really suffer from anxiety any more, though it was a constant unhappy feature of my 20s and 30s. If it ever comes back I shall remember what you said there (have copied it off.) Thanks. Hope it helps others too.

How awful for you.

I suffered from anxiety throughout my 20's. I developed irrational fears too. Eventually you will be able to get through this. Learning to control the anxiety works best first and then work on your fears.

Events like this help as they encourage you to realise how irrational you are being. So it is a good thing even though it does not feel like that currently.

I did study the Mayans in depth for a history paper and I can categorically state that the world will not end.

What no newspaper will tell you is that in fact an area has been discovered believed to be the writing place of the scribes and dates are inscribed on the walls, many years from now.

The Mayans predicted astronomical events and not once did they predict the end of the world.
