When it doesn't end we will be given the next date-there have been lots in the past and we are still here!

perceptionInaPearTree · 19/12/2012 20:00

'The only worry about these end of world stories is that some loonies will believe it and organise a massive attack somewhere, 7/7 style'

This was one prediction from FrequentFlyer up-thread which did come true it seems Sad

RockingAroundTheBloodyXmasTree · 19/12/2012 20:08

someone else has started a thread on chat about it, taking the piss.

amillionyears · 19/12/2012 20:13

I am starting to lose count about how many threads have it tbh.

SamuelWestsMistress · 19/12/2012 20:20

Will be SERIOUSLY fucked off if it means I miss Doctor Who on Christmas Day.

RockingAroundTheBloodyXmasTree · 19/12/2012 20:20

Its not funny!

amillionyears · 19/12/2012 20:22

Think there are at least a couple in Mental Health as well

RockingAroundTheBloodyXmasTree · 19/12/2012 20:38

i cant stand it no more

englishbreakfast · 19/12/2012 20:55

Well, we have our office Christmas party on Friday so go out in style?!?! :)

perceptionInaPearTree · 19/12/2012 22:38

You know, I've been thinking about this. I suppose (some) people feel the need to keep coming up with eotw scenarios because we as individuals are all so limited - we all know that our lives as humans are not going to go on forever - we have lives that are short relative to the universe. So it's hard to imagine a world that will just go on and on. It's outside our comprehension.

Maybe that's why every now and then certain people feel the need to keep on peddling these ridiculous stories!

GrimmaTheNome · 20/12/2012 08:11

I suppose that may be how it works for young earth creationist types -but knowing that life on earth started about 4 billion years ago, most of us are ok with knowing that this world won't go on for ever ... its got about another 4 billion years to go.

Well I am still getting my highlights done today.

amillionyears · 20/12/2012 11:20

everlong, as far as I know, the people with anxiety orders do try to address them. They seek professional help. But, as far as I know, it doesnt always stop all the anxiety.

YoucanringmySleighBells · 20/12/2012 11:24

I think this shows how people hat can have anxiety can project their feelings of anxiety onto 'something' so they can quantify and understand it. Even though what they are anxious about is completely non-existent.

My mother convinced herself that a niggly pain in her back was lung cancer. Utterly convinced no matter what gp told her. I have similar tendencies but am at a stage where i can 'talk sense' to myself.

I feel very much for the OP - and others feeling this way. A little seed of doubt begins in your head and then it takes over.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon OP.

kaylasmum · 20/12/2012 11:37

everlong - i have suffered from general/health anxiety for a number of years now and have seeked proffesional help. i have had cbt twice now. my therapist has told me that my anxiety is always going to be a part of me but knowing how to manage it is the answer.

feeling really bad today, have had a migraine since last night and my heart keeps beating really fast for a few seconds. i'm also thinking about keeping my dc's off school tomorrow morning just in case!

cheekybaubles · 20/12/2012 13:53

I was treated for anxiety, didn't make a jot of difference but I would be careful not to project it onto my DD.
Do you know that you are worrying irrationally, or do you really think it will happen?

Do we have a time for this ending anyway? Isn't it already the 21st in Australia?

LadyBeagleBaublesandBells · 20/12/2012 15:42

Keeping your kids of school is just projecting your irrational fears onto them.
Please don't.

YoucanringmySleighBells · 20/12/2012 15:52

kaylasmum - Your brain is tricking you - it needs to attatch it's anxiety onto something to fool you into believening it is 'rational'.

I have exactly the same tendencies. My particular thing is if I don't do any number of particular things something terrible will happen to my daughter. Or if I forget about checking for fire my house will burn down.

I know it is irrational - but feels so very rational. I can still control my fear. One day I have no doubt I will need help. You have reached that point because the fear is now controlling you Thanks

theplodder · 20/12/2012 15:56

21st here in Australia now and I'm not dead yet so encouraging signs so far....

cheekybaubles · 21/12/2012 08:36

Kayla, how are you this morning? Woke up worrying about you.

LookingForwardToMarch · 21/12/2012 08:40

kaylasmum Hope your feeling a lot less anxious by now.

The world is still here and I'm gazing a clear sky with no trace of endishness approaching Xmas Smile
