Been reading various threads on mn with interest for several weeks now.why do u ladies feel do pessimistic about ur work life balance and compete with the ' oh poor me title'. If you want a better quality of life, surely u can downsize and have less financial Responsibilty and then look after ur dc yourself instead of paying others to look after them. I just don't get why you have kids unless you wanna love And look them yourself. This doesnt apply to single parents.is the financial gain worth it?

I have a mental picture of all of the MNHQ staff slumped exhausted at their desks, reaching weakly for the gin tea and biscuits, whilst their poor children languish up chimneys or down mines, or summat!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/11/2012 16:54

I should add that I haven't been deleted at all, and I am going to cook my children a proper tea, not like that neglectful HoneyDragon flaunting her takeaway pizzas! Jealous? Moi?? Grin

Absy · 27/11/2012 16:55

Well, I would like to add my two pentsworth

This is of course, academic, as I have yet to sprog BUT I intend to carry on working because:

  1. I have invested a lot of time and money in my career.
  2. I'm fucking brilliant at what I do
  3. What I do makes a difference in the world, and makes it a better place
  4. My DM stayed at home and tried to play "happy housewives" to the detriment of the family. DF was made redundant and struggled to find work for years and only after a while did she decide to help out. It's pretty rubbish, as a kid, having to worry about whether or not there would be enough food, or clothes, or having the electricity cut off or potentially losing the house. I don't think it's right that a parent puts their children in that position because they think that they shouldn't have to work, in pursuit of some false 1950s ideal
  5. see 4. above - I know what it's like to have to worry about money, the insecurity, the fear, the gnawing anxiety (and we weren't on the breadline level of poor, but enough for it to be crappy) and I don't want to go through that again, or put my children through it
  6. I have been financially independent since I was in my early 20s, and I love it
  7. I don't have a wealthy family to fall back on, should things go tits up.
  8. There's free coffee
Ginandtonicandamassageplease · 27/11/2012 16:58

Congratulations Jenna2012 - you are famous. Have a little look at the thread "If you had just one fish ..."

HoneyDragon · 27/11/2012 16:59

Mmmmmmmmmmmn Cheesey MSG and processed shit Grin

vladthedisorganised · 27/11/2012 17:00

Has anyone else had the 70s anthem 'W-O-M-A-N' stuck in their head all day?
"I can bring home the bacon... I can fry it in the pan"
(except if it's mushrooms cause I'm vegetari-an..)

KatieScarlett2833 · 27/11/2012 17:05

FFS, I've missed it all.

Fucking work blocks MN, bastards. Now where are the kids so I can neglect them some more........???

Not me, vlad. I have 'Merry Christmas Everyone' (Shakin' Stevens) as my current earworm, thanks to ds2 who has been singing it on a continuous loop since getting home from school.

And now I am sharing the joy. [evil] Feel free to come over here and share your ideas about a suitable punishment for him. Grin

KatieScarlett2833 · 27/11/2012 17:10

I had "Build me up, buttercup" this morning. Couldn't stop singing it. My colleagues almost hired a hit-man to take me out........ Grin

Absy · 27/11/2012 17:11

I forgot that Maryz. Kiddo will sleep through from 2 minutes old, will have no problems feeding, will be perfectly behave and poo rose petals.

StillSquiffy · 27/11/2012 17:13

Well, to be fair, Maryz, they start to go wrong about the second trimester, when you reach over that baby book full of healthy eating guidelines in order to to get to the second pack of McVities digestives.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 27/11/2012 17:16

I would just like to point out that I do not think any of my post were deleted, I cannot actually be arsed to scroll all the way up.

But I was very fucking restrained and nice to everyone which I am quite proud of as normally I am an utter cunt on these threads.

And I am even worse than honeydragon because my Dd is cooking dinner whilst I mumsnet and eat a mars bar.
And ds1 is washing up.

Katie, you Buttercup'd me.

I hate you now.

Absy · 27/11/2012 17:25

I forgot to add - when Kiddo is perfect, naturellement it will be purely down to my skill and wonderfulness as a mother. Nothing to do with luck/kiddos on character/Dh's input/anything else. Just me.

KatieScarlett2833 · 27/11/2012 17:26

I haven't cooked dinner since 1993.

Which was when I met DH, notataallincidentally.

Which may have some bearing on why I am not a SAMH, as I lack the competencies required.

Oblomov · 27/11/2012 17:27

I was so busy posting this morning that I forgot to prep the casserole in the slow cooker. So we have nothing for dinner. and its no good doing it tomorrow because dh is away tomorrow night.
I am well cross with myself. silly me getting all het up about a nonsense thread. Angry

Can a deletion on a thread such as this be taken as a badge if honour?

If so I am going to wear mine proudly whilst awaiting further deletion Grin and standing up in my office Spartacus style declaring "I am a working mother!"

MrsHoarder · 27/11/2012 17:28

shakes head at Squiffy

They must be the chocolate digestives. For added healthiness.

IfNotNowThenWhen · 27/11/2012 17:29

Ha! I only got as far as the first page when BOF said that BOTH SEASONS of Homeland are available on 4OD. Fuck-a-Duck, thats my next 6 evenings sorted then!

Jenna2012 · 27/11/2012 17:36

Well, that was a very interesting response. Apologies to MN headquarters for the overtime you may have been required to work

Jenna - what happened to the text speak? Are you moving round your home using a variety of different personalities devices?
