to think it's childish to wait outside?

Friend was early meeting me today for lunch, so instead of going inside the restaurant and getting a table and maybe ordering a drink she decided to wait outside in the cold for 15 minutes by herself.

I know quite a few people that would prefer to wait outside until one of their party comes. I find this a bit silly and childish.

I'd have no problem going into a restaurant by myself and ordering a drink whilst I waited.

staceymreadfornumber5 you as well got misread - tut tut

forbiddenfruit85 · 24/11/2012 19:13

ivykaty44 I don't think I disagreed with you?

I just think that whilst its obviously lovely that you wait outside for your friend that is blind. I would do the same.
However my friend was not waiting outside for me because I am blind.

I except there are many different reasons why someone would want to wait outside. But in my friends case I think its probably just because she didn't want to look like a loner.

Maybe she wanted to keep the cost down and didn't' want to have to order an extra drink whilst she waited. I agree that I probably would have waited in the car today

forbiddenfruit85 · 24/11/2012 19:17

StaceymReadyForNumber3 I do sympathise with your situation. And if you were the friend I was meeting then I would think absolutely nothing of it if you had waited outside.

My friend does not suffer the same problem as you.

So yes if I was meeting you and thought you childish for waiting outside then of course I am BU. But is it unreasonable to expect a grown woman who works in a customer facing role (so dealing with different people all the time) who does not suffer from panic attacks etc, why would she decide to wait in the rain and not go inside?

diddl · 24/11/2012 19:17

If that´s what she wanted to do-what´s the problem?

Is it a big place?

If so, she maybe thought it was easier than you trying to find her?

Sometimes I go in, sometimes I don´t...

Tweasels · 24/11/2012 19:17

Can we just be clear

Forbiddenfruit was NOT late
She DID NOT say anything to her friend's face
She IS NOT blind.

As you were.

forbiddenfruit85 · 24/11/2012 19:18

ivykaty44 how have I misread Stacey? I have never referred to either of you in the thread or disagreed with either of you?

So how the hell did I misread either of you?

OP posts:
Jehmazeballs · 24/11/2012 19:18

I think its a bit rude to go into the restaurant first, more polite to wait outside.. she did it for you!
She was obviously well brought up

ivykaty44 · 24/11/2012 19:19

ivykaty44 I don't think I disagreed with you?

no, as I said - I didn't agree with you

that doesn't make me wrong Grin

mynewpassion · 24/11/2012 19:20

So what if she waited outside for you. Maybe she wanted to stand out in the rain or cold because it was refreshing. Its got nothing to do with you and didn't affect you whatsoever.

InNeedOfBrandy · 24/11/2012 19:20

I kind of see your point OP, if I was to meet a friend and she was early (So I was not late) and waited outside in the cold and rain I would be unreasonably annoyed. Not really sure why, a case of guilt for not being there early and annoyance.

Sirzy · 24/11/2012 19:20

You are making an issue out of nothing. Did her standing outside have any sort of impact upon your day? (other than you obviously spending hours considering how childish she is!)

ivykaty44 · 24/11/2012 19:21

She IS NOT blind - are you sure?

mynewpassion · 24/11/2012 19:24

IF you were so annoyed, why didn't you say something like, "Hi. I hope you weren't waiting for me outside in the rain? You should've gone in ahead. I wouldn't have minded it."

forbiddenfruit85 · 24/11/2012 19:24

Sirzy I know. As soon as I got home I wrote it straight into my diary and then I text every person I know to tell them and I might even ring the local newspaper to see if they are interested in my story.

This is not just hours, we're going to be talking days here!!

Or rather at the time I thought it was silly. Then enjoyed lunch with a friend, got some Christmas shopping done and started dinner and then thought whilst I was on MN see if others would have waited outside in bad weather or sat in the warmth.

OP posts:
forbiddenfruit85 · 24/11/2012 19:25

mynewpassion I'm not annoyed in the slightest. I just think its silly to stand in the rain for 15 minutes.

ivykaty you are a very odd person.

OP posts:
PaintedInRed · 24/11/2012 19:26

Does it really matter? Hmm she hasn't harmed you in any way, and she hasn't expected YOU to wait outside for HER, so I don't see the problem.

Knocking people because they don't have the confidence to walk in to a restaurant on their own is just mean!

Sirzy · 24/11/2012 19:26

You are the odd one. Really its no issue!

wannabedomesticgoddess · 24/11/2012 19:28

Its quite possibly people like you who have given her the confidence issues.

charlmarascoxo · 24/11/2012 19:33

I personally wouldn't have waited in the rain.

Being cold and wet makes me seriously grumpy and I end up looking like a drowned rat.

RipleyIsMyHero · 24/11/2012 19:37

My brain hurts!

BerthaKitt · 24/11/2012 19:45

I have a friend who does this and I do find it irritating. She says it's because if she goes into a bar alone people will think she's on the pull. It's silly.

I think it's a feminist issue really - I can't imagine a man being scared to go into a pub or restaurant alone to wait for a friend in case people thought he was looking to be picked up by a woman.

Mintyy · 24/11/2012 19:47

Why on earth would it be "rude" to go in to the restaurant first? Just why???

TalkativeJim · 24/11/2012 19:50

You are throne who clearly has The Fear about this situation.

The question is, why?

BerthaKitt · 24/11/2012 19:50

I hadn't spotted that mintyy. Rude to go in first? Erm, no. Ruder surely to wait outside in the rain and make your friend feel bad.
