to think it's childish to wait outside?

Friend was early meeting me today for lunch, so instead of going inside the restaurant and getting a table and maybe ordering a drink she decided to wait outside in the cold for 15 minutes by herself.

I know quite a few people that would prefer to wait outside until one of their party comes. I find this a bit silly and childish.

I'd have no problem going into a restaurant by myself and ordering a drink whilst I waited.

*pigletmania are you actually thick?

How many times do I have to state I was not late.

I stated it then and numerous times after that I was NOT LATE*

MrsMangelfanciedPaulRobinson I face palmed because you are clearly thick and cannot read.

Otherwise you would have known that I wasn't late dumbass Smile

I love all the people calling the OP rude for being late. They are clearly rude for not reading the OP properly!

JustFabulous · 24/11/2012 18:51

YABD.

She was being nice waiting outside for you and actually, it isn't that beyond the realms of possibilty that she might not have wanted to go inside and order alone. Maybe she felt that would have been rude.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 24/11/2012 18:51

Aside from the OP, why did you bother posting in AIBU if we are all wrong and you are right. Your attitude on here speaks volumes really.

MrsMangelfanciedPaulRobinson · 24/11/2012 18:52

Oh you sound an utter delight, forbiddenfruit, an utter delight!

SirBoobAlot · 24/11/2012 18:53

Think you're making too much of it, really. Personally I wouldn't have waited outside, I'd have gone in and ordered some drinks. But if that's what she was comfortable doing then not really seeing the issue.

mumto2andnomore · 24/11/2012 18:54

You sound like the childish one not her !

Groovee · 24/11/2012 18:54

YABU It's not childish to wait outside. Some people just don't have the confidence to walk in somewhere and get a table and then sit there waiting.

JustFabulous · 24/11/2012 18:54

You are being rude now though OP.....

ChestyNutsRoastingAnOpenFire · 24/11/2012 18:54

YABU she is your friend does it matter where she waits?

She felt uncomfortable going in alone, so what?
Can't all be as brimming with confidence as yourself Hmm

YouSeveredHead · 24/11/2012 18:55

I used to be like this then I forced myself to go out to lunch every day for week ;whilst reading don't sweat the small stuff) and would now happily go just about anywhere on my own.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 24/11/2012 18:55

The OP was not late. She was early. Her friend was earlier.

Just thought I'd clear that up.

Mintyy · 24/11/2012 18:57

This thread absolutely demonstrates AIBU for the bollox that it is.

Tweasels · 24/11/2012 18:57

Whilst I can sympathise with the OP for all those who clearly haven't read the thread and keep on insisting she was late.

Unless OP, you are an American teenager. I find your use of the phrases "face palm" and "dumbass" way more childish than your friend who probably just lacks confidence.

forbiddenfruit85 · 24/11/2012 18:58

wannabedomesticgoddess the only people that have disagreed with are the people that have said was a mean and rude person I am for being late. I disagreed because they are wrong.

I hate it when people are late, so I make sure I always try to be at least 5 minutes early.

I'm a grown adult. We have all done scary things, such as going for job interviews, giving presentations etc.

I find it silly that as an adult someone could not go into a restaurant by themselves and wait for a friend? (obviously there are exceptions to this before I get flamed again)

OP posts:
NigellasGuest · 24/11/2012 18:58

Had a table been booked?

ouryve · 24/11/2012 18:59

Did you tell her she was childish to her face? Hmm

forbiddenfruit85 · 24/11/2012 19:00

Tweasels I agree, it is uncalled for.

It just gets frustrating when people don't bother to read the OP, and then say you are rude and mean for being late.

  • And as a side note I said I know a few people like this, I'm not use targeting my friend here.
OP posts:
forbiddenfruit85 · 24/11/2012 19:01

ouryve - sigh.

Why not read and then you will clearly see I have stated on numerous times, that NO I did say this to her face.

OP posts:
wannabedomesticgoddess · 24/11/2012 19:03

I just dont see the need for your reaction to those posters. Thst was childish.

Who are you to call someone silly for not wanting to walk into a restaurant alone. Everyone is different. Some people have confidence issues. You obviously have a lack of empathy. Maybe you should work on that.

GetorfsaMotherfuckingMorrisMan · 24/11/2012 19:04

God I agree mintyy. Bloody hell op you poor cow, you obviously didn't get the memo that calling someone 'childish' was a heinous crime deserving of flaming.

It's 'am I being unreasonable?'. Not 'am I a cunt and deserve throwing to the wolves?'

Fwiw I agree that unless you have a crippling social anxiety its a bit odd not to go into a restaurant on your own. I had a friend who did this and althoigh I liked her enormously this trait used to annoy me.

ivykaty44 · 24/11/2012 19:06

the only people that have disagreed with are the people that have said was a mean and rude person I am for being late. I disagreed because they are wrong.

strange as I didn't agree with you and I knew you were not late - possibly you also don't read peoples posts.

I will repeat YABU just so it is clear Wink

NigellasGuest · 24/11/2012 19:06

IME this is a feature of AIBU - people don't read the OP or even subsequent posts properly. I did an AIBU and people kept accusing me of something I had said was not the case - over and over. In the end I said but I think it's best to ignore in general, because by posting an OP in AIBU in the first place you need to be aware that respones might not be particularly "fluffy"...

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 24/11/2012 19:08

Erm not only people who called you mean for being late disagreed forbidden see my post at 18.18
