IT WAS CLEAR FROM THE OP BY THE USE OF "INGLISH" FOR EG THAT SHE WAS USING SATIRE TO HIGHLIGHT THE LUDICROUSNESS OF SUCH AN OPINION.

hth

In Bups' case, she was just being silly about her own dh.

What is it people don't get about satire..???

This is fun. But I've got to go to the dentist.

Cynner · 06/11/2012 14:04

Apologise for using boob..do not want any breast people to be offended..

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 14:05

ScrambledSmegs · 06/11/2012 14:06

Oh dear. I do hope I haven't upset anyone with a real Tits Head affliction. I really am most terribly sorry for any offence caused.

I like satire, I just don't like it when it's not funny, when it's crassly put to cause maximum offence, before backtracking fast, and when it's pointless.

When it's done properly it's great (HIGNFY etc etc)

BupcakesAndCunting · 06/11/2012 14:06

I think that Frankie Boyle is fucking VILE and I wouldn't piss on him if he were on fire, tbh. But I wouldn't berate anyone else for finding him funny. I might re-evaluate my thoughts on a person that thought that laughing outright at disabled children was fair game, but I wouldn't huff and puff and "Oh I am oh so very offended" at them. Humour is subjective and I maintain that people have a right to find things funny that I, or others, might not.

I KNOW that I don't like FB's humour, so I avoid it. I wouldn't rock up at one of his shows and then protest about how offended I am. People would tell me to shove my offence up my arse, and they'd be right.

However, this is all academic because I do think that a lot of offence is taken on MN about things that aren't even THERE. Things are twisted, agendas are aired. People are told that they are not joking when it is obvious that they are. It does seem like some people are just up for a ruck and if there is no ruck to be had, they'll make one.

THERhubarb · 06/11/2012 14:07

Sorry Hully, most of the time I agree with you, this time I don't. You've done a thread like this before. Being outraged with the outraged. It doesn't work imo.

Not everyone who gets offended is humourless and not every joke made is funny. It was a crass thread. It was bound to get the response it did. Some people (probably those who have experienced racism) got quite offended by it. The thread was pulled.

I don't understand why another thread has to be started to have a go at those who didn't find it funny in the first place. We're not all the same. Making out that they are somehow thick is not fair.

Cynner · 06/11/2012 14:07

So now we will be having a go at typos!
I am prepared to name and shame!

What Eds said.

That was not satire. It was merely a foolish thread.

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 14:08

That's ok Rhubs

I am not offended that you are offended by this.

Let's agree to differ.

It's getting a bit dull, isn't it?

OP posts:
HolyAutumnGoldBatman · 06/11/2012 14:08

'Saying those who didn't see the funny side are humourless rejects from the 1970s is going too far'

You didn't need to find it funny but you also don't need to offended you can read it, think that's a bit stupid and move on.

EdsRedeemingQualities · 06/11/2012 14:09

Rhubarb this is the problem I have with 'PO'

I've spent my childhood and life being told I had 'no sense of humour' when I got upset about being teased, or bullied etc

and now MN has started doing it with a convenient little label to attach to all us rejects from back then.

What are people defending? How are we a threat?

THERhubarb · 06/11/2012 14:10

See? A thread like this that now condemns those who don't share your sense of humour as idiots who lack a certain piece of DNA.

I'm backing out now as I find some of these views quite repulsive in their own rights, quite smug, quite arrogrant and frankly quite unintelligent.

It WAS a foolish thread. I already said it was hamfisted. However, I don't think that there was any malice in it or that OP really wanted non-whites out. It's the accusations that it was a serious thread/MN suicide that rankle.

HolyAutumnGoldBatman · 06/11/2012 14:11

Rhubarb are you joking? Or are you really offended by the thread about the easily offended?

ScrambledSmegs · 06/11/2012 14:11

What was this racist thread about anyway? I thought we were talking about Buppy's metrosexual DH. Have I missed un fred controversee?

NotQuintAtAllOhNo · 06/11/2012 14:11

Dont be a silly billy hully gully!

THERhubarb · 06/11/2012 14:11

Eds, same here. I would suffer daily abuse from my stepfather, sarky remarks to me, subtle put downs and if I complained, I had no sense of humour. Clearly Hmm

This thread, these posters (I understand this is not what you meant Hully) are doing the same. It's vile.

Teethkissing · 06/11/2012 14:11

i agree whole-heartedly Rhubarb
