Joyless Dementors? Dementors are supposed to happy now, are they? Have you ever thought what it must be like to spend time eternal in the timeless wastes of Dementia, always on call? Oh, no, never mind any other spirit's life of painful misery, they must stick on a happy face so as not to offend the likes of you Angry

Reporting you for being uncaring.

garlicbaguette · 06/11/2012 13:46

I'm reporting myself for saying "Dementia" without making consoling noises about the terrible group of illnesses that are collectively known as dementia. I have Alzheimer's you know.

garlicbaguette · 06/11/2012 13:46

I'm reporting myself for referring flippantly to the terrible disease that ruins lives.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 06/11/2012 13:46

Absy - I am not a morris dancer! I have never been morris dancing.

You have me mixed up woth someone else. I know that solidgoldbrass is a Morris Dancer (unless I have made a clanging error and she was being euphemistic Grin)

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2012 13:46

But seeker people get offended by things that aren't offensive or even matter that much. Sad

HolyAutumnGoldBatman · 06/11/2012 13:47

'Am I taking this too literally?'

Yes.

It was a joke.

Are you one of the 'offended'?!

helpyourself · 06/11/2012 13:47

The best threads are when you get the joyless dementors and the frothing berserkers clashing.

There is some overlap, I myself can see both sides, but generally they don't get on.

Yes seeker, but someone somewhere is always offended by everything.

How anodyne convo would be.

For eg, calling for the abolition of grammar schools is mighty offensive to a great many...

BupcakesAndCunting · 06/11/2012 13:47

But how do you know something is offensive if it is not offensive to you? Offence is subjective. If you aren't saying things like "black people can really dance and cook all the fried chicken" or "Gays and their AIDS" etc etc, then you're into subjective territory.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 06/11/2012 13:47

Oh christ yes someone not too long ago had a go at me because I started a thread called 'magazines for the demented' and she said I was being perjorative towards those with dementia.

gloomywinters2 · 06/11/2012 13:48

Robbie Williams offended me on Loose Women today. I was so cross I started a thread. Shock

Absy · 06/11/2012 13:49

~RL Hully? But that's where racist twunts people like my colleague dwell?

Do you know what offended me the most? is that he said it to me in a "you know what I mean" kind of way.

NO I DON'T I'M NOT A TWUNT LIKE YOU

And breathe.

Apologies GetOrf for the slander. I have a rubbish memory.

I'm now going to look at topless pictures of a young Robert De Niro to calm me down.

Was he wearing a waistcoat to conceal his expanding girth, Sparkling? That seems to be his new trick. It's like the male version of those optical illusion dresses that seemto be springing up everywhere.

HolyAutumnGoldBatman · 06/11/2012 13:50

laqueen you had a Hmm face at the wellie-less children of Iraq! I read it as 'offended that everyone is not aware of weather conditions in Iraq'.

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 13:50

Ooo yes, surely it's time for topless men again? Who was that one we like?

I think gawjuss men go very well with ranting and anti-po

I wonder how long it would take for the rumour that Getorf is a morris dancer to spread across mumsnet?

EdsRedeemingQualities · 06/11/2012 13:52

I know that someone will always be offended by pretty much any viewpoint. But that's missing the point.

You have to be open to people having these views, and to discussing them, at face value, and humour or mocking is a way to STOP discussion and basically end the debate.

It's a way of being so domatic that you refuse even to consider the other person's POV.

It's rude to cut off discussion, or differences using humour. It isn't a fair thing to do.

That's the difference between disagreeing, or arguing a point on here, and laughing someone off the board.

seeker · 06/11/2012 13:52

No. Calling for the abolition of grammar schools is not offensive. Saying that you're only campaigning for abolition because your child is too stupid to get in and you're jealous is offensive. Posting about how worried you are about whether your child is going to get into a grammar school on a thread somebody has started to talk about a child with significant intellectual impairment is offensive. Posting about how everyone whose child goes to grammar school is a crashing snob is offensive. But calling for the abolition of or increase in grammar schools isn't offensive.

InSPsFanjoNoOneHearsYouScream · 06/11/2012 13:52
