I don't give a flying fuck what you think

I want to express my frustration at continual humourless misinterpretation and consequential po-facedness

I really really don't give a shit if you all want to keep going on and on and on about racism and it's just not funny blah blah

Suck your teeth till the cows come home and enjoy

aaaaaaaaggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh

The other thread was not satire. It was bollocks. Really, really stupid bollocks at that.
As for the poster's comment on this thread 'I could have worded my thread differebtly but was distracted by something going on in the place I was at.' Seriously? Hmm

Saying 'it was a joke' is a well used tactic to get away with whatever offensive shite you feel like spouting. Anybody who disagrees is called po faced and their opinion disregarded - allowing you to carry on with your bigoted shitefest of whatever type. It's a tactic used by bullies.

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 16:26

The intent of the OP was satirical

the end.

It must have kicked off on that that thread then - I certainly want offended by it - but it just wasnt funny. So to say people who didnt see it as satire or whatever have a sense of humour failing is taking it a bit far. The subject matter yes is serious - so if Sole had wanted to it could have been phrased something like "AIBU to be upset by some racist remarks I overheard in the hairdressers"........but clearly they wanted to try a different approach i.e look how clever I am to post such a witty OP type of thing, which failed big time obviously.

I love the sense of humour on MN but this was unfunny and given subject matter stupid not to put in OP that it was an overheard remark not OPs actual belief, no matter how obvious this was.

Pinot · 06/11/2012 16:27

Hully you are lookin' mighty fine

THERhubarb · 06/11/2012 16:27

Hully, even if the OP was not aware of it?

Let's make this simple then. Ricky Gervais using the word mong. Irony or not?

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 16:28

It wasn't good satire, basically what Ultrabof said.

I was offended by the way it was written, by the content, by something that causes pain to others being used to lighten up another's afternoon, whatever she may have given herself carpet burns by backtracking posted later on.

And yet I'm firmly in the camp that laughing at the BNP et al can be fruitful if done well.

Not if started to create a bunfight/attention seek/alleviate boredom.

ObiWan · 06/11/2012 16:34

LaQueen and Tantrums have made a good point.

Some people just can't do humour. My soon-to-be DIL is lovely, but she's going to give me a complex with her inability to laugh at things. I can be mildly amusing quite often (really), but instead of laughing, she gives me an eerie stare, and I can see her trying to work out what on earth is going on.

It makes for very trying meal times, as I can't cook. I've looked up a few times to find her almost in tears on my behalf after someone has jokingly cast aspersions on my pastry, or soup, or something.

I remember too, a thread where the someone was lightheartedly contemplating whether murder had been committed by the neighbour.

Nobody (you'd think) could possibly have believed that the OP was just getting on with the ironing while dead bodies were piling up next door.
But the PO did, in fact, come out in force there, and the whole thing went very wonky. It was still very funny though.

I don't think thread by Sole was particularly funny, or clever, or satirical. I'm not sure that she intended it to be offensive either. Possibly it was an attempt at a 'joshing' type thread that fell flat, because her usual posting style meant that people believed she was trying to stir.

EdsRedeemingQualities · 06/11/2012 16:35

Pickled, minewas the first post on Sole's thread, after her OP. I simply asked 'are you serious or are you being sarcastic?'

I didn't simply rumble in assuming she was being serious. But she declined to respond and then I thought, well if she was being sarky she would say so to avoid any confusion. So she's clearly not bothered if people think otherwise.

'But there seems to be a need on MN lately for everyone to take everything/everyone very seriously, and that agenda is being pushed pretty aggressively at the moment.'

I can't recall who I C&Pd this from but I don't think it's necessarily true. It seems more like there's a campaign against anyone who refuses to take everything in a lighthearted way even if it is properly offensive.

Thus this thread.

I'm amazed that people are saying, the po jump on EVERY humorous thread and demolish it, they don't get any jokes, humour is beyond them...really? I find loads of stuff on here very very funny. Some of it I don't and then I say something. I'd be bloody busy if I was trying to prevent anyone at all having fun. That's missing the point spectacularly.

THERhubarb · 06/11/2012 16:35

Look, it's very simple. The OP was NOT being satirical as she even says so herself.

How about some troll joins Mumsnet and posts the exact same thread title? Would that also be ironic or is the irony only because you Hully, happened to know the OP?

We've all agreed there can be humourless posters who just wish to stir but I don't think there were any on that thread or on this one. We can beg to differ but throwing up your hands in exasperation because people don't share your sense of humour is rather petty. Sorry.

shesariver · 06/11/2012 16:36

The Scottish remark does make me laugh though (and Im Scottish to) because its a referenceto something someone posted that had absolutely no bearing whatsoever on a thread once isnt it Grin

Narked · 06/11/2012 16:37

But NO-ONE HAS 100% ENGLISH BLOOD.

'Everyone who doesn't have 100% English blood should be deported'

The fact that no-one has '100% English blood'

= Everyone should be deported.

LadyBeagle · 06/11/2012 16:37

I remember that thread Obi.
It was either Hully or Pag I think.
It was the funniest po invasion ever.

THERhubarb · 06/11/2012 16:37

"Possibly it was an attempt at a 'joshing' type thread that fell flat, because her usual posting style meant that people believed she was trying to stir. "

Yes. This.

Why is that so hard to grasp? She wrote the thread like a bloody troll would! But those who didn't know the OP are humourless who make the world grey? Come on!

Sorry SBD. You're probably quite nice really.

FunnysInLaJardin · 06/11/2012 16:40

The only thing that I'm frothing about is the BLOODY ADVERT down both sides of my screen has now migrated to Active Convo's. It's spreading across MN and I DON'T LIKE IT.

Now that is something to get Angry about.

FWIW the thread in question was obv a joke, even though it could have been worded betterly
