LaQueen and Tantrums have made a good point.
Some people just can't do humour. My soon-to-be DIL is lovely, but she's going to give me a complex with her inability to laugh at things. I can be mildly amusing quite often (really), but instead of laughing, she gives me an eerie stare, and I can see her trying to work out what on earth is going on.
It makes for very trying meal times, as I can't cook. I've looked up a few times to find her almost in tears on my behalf after someone has jokingly cast aspersions on my pastry, or soup, or something.
I remember too, a thread where the someone was lightheartedly contemplating whether murder had been committed by the neighbour.
Nobody (you'd think) could possibly have believed that the OP was just getting on with the ironing while dead bodies were piling up next door.
But the PO did, in fact, come out in force there, and the whole thing went very wonky. It was still very funny though.
I don't think thread by Sole was particularly funny, or clever, or satirical. I'm not sure that she intended it to be offensive either. Possibly it was an attempt at a 'joshing' type thread that fell flat, because her usual posting style meant that people believed she was trying to stir.
