oops - moved on a bit!

cornybeefhash · 06/11/2012 16:09

I'm a Scorp but not 50 yet

THERhubarb · 06/11/2012 16:10

Yes Maryz, but the misspelling is actually that posters own style.

She always spells like that. So actually, knowing how the poster writes and then seeing that, it could either be a poor attempt at irony or just a way to wind everyone up.

As it happened, it wound everyone up.

I still fail to see what was so funny. Even when you realise it was not serious, it was hardly hysterical and to call it satire is an offense to satire. It wasn't clever enough.

Pagwatch · 06/11/2012 16:12

Thanks Tantrums Smile

I didn't read the original thread. So I actually have no clue.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 06/11/2012 16:13

No offense intended, Amber

Oh, I dunno. The tone has changed on 'ere. Or, maybe, I have changed

Rhub is quite right MaryZ

Do you want to think about it a bit?

OP posts:
PosieParker · 06/11/2012 16:17

A thread like this reminds me of how the Tories got in and why DM has a huge readership.

Teethkissing · 06/11/2012 16:18

I didn't find that thread offensive
but i agree with rhubarb it wasn't funny

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 16:19

Well the tories got in because the libdems sided with them and people read the DM because they are thick.

But ok.

Hi all,

These threads are a judgement call and we hold our hands up that we sometimes make the wrong call but we do not delete threads/posts just because folks are offended - we delete when a thread/post breaks our guidelines

However, humour/sarcasm/irony are not always obvious - even to us - and even if they are, we do not always keep threads or posts because some people think they are funny. There are plenty of vile "jokes" in existence, after all.

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 16:19

It was satirical

Whether you found it funny or not is entirely irrelevant

OP posts:
PosieParker · 06/11/2012 16:19

But it's that idea that if you get offended by stuff you're a dick.

UltraBOF · 06/11/2012 16:20

Really, Posie? So now laughing is right wing?

Balderdashandpiffle · 06/11/2012 16:20

'Three women walk into a pub and say, "Hooray, we've colonised a male-dominated joke format".'

Bill Bailey.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 06/11/2012 16:21

I get offended by stuff. I don't think I'm a dick.

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 16:21

You couldn't tell the op was satirical?

You really really couldn't?

Teethkissing · 06/11/2012 16:22

hully maybe its yous lot, that did find it funny that have something missing...

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 16:22

I HAVE NEVER SAID THAT IF YOU GET OFFENDED YOU ARE A DICK

I SAID (FOR THE FIFTIETH TIME) THAT IT IS VERY BORING WHEN INTENT AND PURPOSE ARE MISCONSTRUED AND JUMPED UPON IN A HUMOURLESS FASHION

OP posts:
THERhubarb · 06/11/2012 16:22

Same Teethkissing.

Even the OP said it wasn't intended to be particularly funny or a satirical observation, she was just passing the time of day and started a bored thread.

It was badly worded, again she admits this. Some people did get offended by the tone (if you didn't know the OP you could be forgiven for thinking this was a stupid troll, which many posters did). Others who knew the OP or read it differently came on to defend it and then those who got offended were called stupid and humourless and it all got out of hand. Then this thread started.

Not exactly a contender for Classics is it?

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 16:23

Oh the irony of it all

the bloody irony

OP posts:
PosieParker · 06/11/2012 16:23

No laughing isn't right wing! I laugh a lot, I can also be offensive (to some) and I have no desire to change. BUT the idea on here is that if one is offended it's because they don't understand, it reminds me of Ricky Gervais being criticised for using 'mong' or 'twongs', instead of holding his hands up and saying sorry he made it loads worse, first.

PosieParker · 06/11/2012 16:24

HULLY. I am talking about this thread NOT YOU. SO SAVE YOUR CAPS and I'll save mine. Smile

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 06/11/2012 16:24

STOP BLOODY SHOUTING YOU SHOUTY WOMAN YOU.

Or, are you my Mum? She bloody loves CAPS LOCK
