Haven't most people said that Sole's thread was badly phrased/judged etc? I never realised this thread was specifically about that one, thought it was broader scope than that.

I'm talking to myself, aren't I? Sad

Softlysoftly · 06/11/2012 15:34

But that wasnt the case here tantrums? You are arguing a totally different point.

LeQueen, all hail, I'm assuming you are using some of your renowned whimsy here because generally your posts don't make you sound like someone who looks down on others.

Softlysoftly · 06/11/2012 15:37

Xpost tantrums, in that case I'm not on the anti side!

And yes Scrambledsmegs I read this as directly about soles thread as it was prompted by Hullys annoyance on that thread.

LineRunner · 06/11/2012 15:39

Its like Derek and Clive doing lobsters up the arse and suddenly finding Margot Leadbetter in the room.

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 15:39

This is not about bloody racism

I gave two egs, both of which demonstrated that the purpose and the intent of OPs were misinterpreted and thus the joyless dementors got stuck in. That is what I am complaining about.

I cannot imagine why that is unclear but hey ho.

OP posts:
ScrambledSmegs · 06/11/2012 15:40

But Hully was on Bupcakes' camp DH thread too. She was annoyed. So she could equally have been thinking of that thread.

I'm not about to presume I know what's going on in Hully's head. Scary place, if you ask me Wink

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 15:41

I have been on several threads. Those were just two egs I picked as recent.

It is about Purpose and Intent.

OP posts:
ScrambledSmegs · 06/11/2012 15:41

It WAS about the camp DH, it was!

Grin
Softlysoftly · 06/11/2012 15:42

Fair enough, perhaps I'm just being PO about being accused of a sense of humour failure on the sole thread which was fecking unfunny so there

BupcakesAndCunting · 06/11/2012 15:42

Yes it IS the wrond end of the stick getting that makes me a bit Hmm When people put words in other people's mouths and totally misconstrue what they are actually saying.

I only ever really come on MN for a bit of jollity. I don't really ever intend to cause any upset/harm, although I certainly have done. I think that this is the same for 90% of posters. There are some posters that are REALLY malicious/shit-stirry. Why would you choose to see offence in the posts of someone who is obviously joking about when there are nasty posts on here that REALLY deserve a shoeing?

(Yes, I know. You can object to BOTH. And yes I know, there ARE people that have that much time on their hands to "challenge" simply everything. Am also starting to really loathe the term "challenge" now too, as it seems to mean "get huffy usually over sod all" around here...)

ScrambledSmegs · 06/11/2012 15:42

Sorry Hully, x-posts. I get what you mean.

SomewhereInCanada · 06/11/2012 15:46

Bloody Hell. Will you lot slow down? I'm trying to read this from the beginning and every time I move on a page there's another two gone on the end ..

Softlysoftly · 06/11/2012 15:46

Hully the sole thread was massively grey, sorry it just wasn't a clear cut lighthearted thread and therefore someone who it pisses off does not come under the category "joyless dementor".

No idea about Bupcakes haven't seen it.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 06/11/2012 15:47

Now we're all about peace and love can I just saying the best moment in this entire thread was GOML shouting

I AM NOT A MOTHERFUCKING MORRIS MAN

PickledFanjoCat · 06/11/2012 15:48

Putting words into peoples mouths and twisty turny shite is horrible.

Just because people are offended doesnt give them extra rights to try and paint a poster into a sexist/racist/cupboardist person that they are not.

A lot of people dont ask what did you mean by that they jump in first with the accusations.

Sometimes I feel like I need a barrister to get involved in a conversation on here I really do.

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 15:48

And the cheek after her complaints that we weren't interested in her anecdotes. I ask you.

OP posts:
BupcakesAndCunting · 06/11/2012 15:49

I insist that GOML changes her name to "MotherfuckingMorrisMan"

Hullygully · 06/11/2012 15:50

And whilst I think LaQ does often have a most unfortunate manner, I do think that if people have been told X all their lives (fill in as appropriate and do not apply if subject to abuse of any kind of course), they shouyld perhaps ask themselves why.

There are people out there with literally no SOH.

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 06/11/2012 15:51

Good lord.
Is this what you lot do when I go out for the day?

I shall send you all to our rooms.

I am 51 tomorrow, fifty fucking one!

That's not fair is it. You lot should play nicely. You still have your youth.

Hello darling, I just called you a feckless layabout on another thread. Are you outraged?

OP posts:
BupcakesAndCunting · 06/11/2012 15:54

Yow'm never that 51 Paggy Shock

Absy · 06/11/2012 15:54

"Jump right in and challenge racism, disabilist views, etc.

But not people sharing a joke"

Yes yes yes. And again, yes.

Man, you see this ALL the time. I agree - go ahead and challenge racism/sexism/disablism I am all for it. Definitely. the world is worse off if people don't. But, don't butt in and have a go at people having a laff on a thread if it's not directed at you, or you don't get the joke. Seriously. There are so many other things people can be doing like me. I should be working

THERhubarb · 06/11/2012 15:55

Back briefly.

I saw Hully on the crass thread which the title was, and I paraphrase here: "IF YOU ARE NOT 100% BRITISH BLOOD THEN YOU SHOULD BE FORCED TO GO BACK HOME" The OP then said something along the lines of: "because you are not proper Inglish. Innit. bored fred

That is the thread I saw. Only afterwards did the OP come back to say she was merely repeating something she heard in a hairdressers.

Now, maybe it's me and maybe I'm ultra sensitive and a humourless twat but I saw nothing satirical or funny in that. I thought it was a pathetic, attention seeking attempt to start a bunfight.

Yes there are threads that are genuinely funny and yes it is a bore when people are determined to find something anything offensive in what you say. It happened to me just yesterday. Someone posted what sounded like an advert for lillets tampons only she had put in her title "brned sanitarts" which was funny and jokes were made about it being something off a cookery show. One or two posters came in and were offended on behalf of the OP. Properly offended! Until the OP came back on and took it all in good humour.

Yes there are spoilsports everywhere in life, however to assume that everyone who is offended falls under the same bracket is in itself crass.

If I see a thread that sounds racist, should I ignore or should I fight back? If I took LaQueens advice I would ignore and let them get on with their racist bollocks. If I wade in, then I'm a humourless idiot who doesn't understand satire and who is professionally offended.

I think it takes common sense and perhaps a certain amount of intelligence to see the difference between a thread that can genuinely stir and cause upset (not to mention encourage posters who do hold those beliefs) and a thread that is jossing around. It also takes a dollop of common sense to understand that some people, due perhaps to their personal situation and experiences, are going to find some things unfunny and offensive and it would be extremely rude to tell them to get a life.

There appear to be two camps. Those who stir up trouble by taking offence at everything and those who stir up trouble by calling everyone who gets offended a humourless idiot lacking in DNA.

The rest of us fall somewhere inbetween. Apart from the brown noses who fall under whichever category is the most popular at the time Wink

PosieParker · 06/11/2012 15:56

Scrambled...yup tis I!!

Although that thread about me was a little offensive!! But I loved the thread, twas my favourite.
