Okay, so not Morris Man, but MORRIS GIRL

PosieParker · 06/11/2012 14:38

The line is wherever the offended person draws it, within reason.

I'm pretty 'offensive' about religion and the way in which women are treated. I know I am, but I comment on the belief and not the person and so I don't think I can be silenced with 'you are offensive".

So words that are used to belittle or abuse people are not okay, but questioning NT's actions are okay taking the piss out of mental illness is not.

Hello

I did not intend to offend anyone!

My thread was just highlighting opinions of some morons I overheard today. Ironically last night we were wstching videis on Youtube of people on buses abd trains shouting similiar runbish. My child is mixed heritage.

I could have worded my thread differebtly but was distracted by something going on in the place I was at.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 06/11/2012 14:39

Oh no you haven't offended me help, sorry.

I just was concerned (why? I started it) that people would think i was a Morris Man. Grin

All this reminds me that on a thread the other day some tosser said that some people liked to pretend to be inclusive and liberal. Like inclusioevness and liberalness were somehow terrible things. Didn't seem to understand that some peopel go through life wanting to be inclusive and liberal. What a sad world that person must live in.

RustyBear · 06/11/2012 14:39

"What's that going on over there?"

"It's Morris dancing"

"Yes, I've been a little worried about Maurice lately..."

PosieParker · 06/11/2012 14:39

A racist thread that was a joke????? Had I been black and not known the joke would I have been offended? Then it's not okay.

InSPsFanjoNoOneHearsYouScream · 06/11/2012 14:40

I find it hard to be offended to be honest.

That may offend the easily offended

HolyAutumnGoldBatman · 06/11/2012 14:41

So Posie we just have to put up with every thread being labelled as 'offensive'?! I can see what Hully means, kind of ruins it a bit.

ScrambledSmegs · 06/11/2012 14:42

People have different senses of humour, I don't think I've met a single person who hasn't laughed at something. (Except maybe a teacher of mine when I was 13/14, but I can't really blame her - we were a nightmare class.)

I get why people want to say if they find something offensive, I do so myself at times. But there seems to be a need on MN lately for everyone to take everything/everyone very seriously, and that agenda is being pushed pretty aggressively at the moment.

I would also love it if we could post jokey threads without having to qualify them as 'lighthearted'.

NotQuintAtAllOhNo · 06/11/2012 14:42

I think re-spouting racist crap is generally not on, though I know you did not mean to Offend, Sole. Your OP was very attention seeking, throwing out this BNP type comment without an explanation.

Then saying "It was a joke" or "I meant no offence" or "I was just repeating what I heard" just doesnt cut it.

PosieParker · 06/11/2012 14:42

I don't know the thread and so can't comment, but as MN is regulated by people reporting to MNHQ then I support sensible deletions when people are offended. I am not an ethnic minority and so I've no idea what it feels like to have prejudice against me.

Aboutlastnight · 06/11/2012 14:43

I don't think anyone should say anything ever lest folk get offended.

PosieParker · 06/11/2012 14:44

BUT not everyone gets the joke. Not everyone is used to way of MN.

NotQuintAtAllOhNo · 06/11/2012 14:44

I think that puts the "sense of humour failure" in a less palatable light to be honest, coupled with the general "oh you have no sense of humour" said to those who do speak up.

NotQuintAtAllOhNo · 06/11/2012 14:45

In the same way as threads about threads are "not on", I do think this thread was Ill adviced, and as attention seeking as the original thread it refers to.

Cynner · 06/11/2012 14:45

Sole, you made an offensive thread? I cannot believe that knowing what I do about your struggles. Clearly, that would be out of character for you...

PosieParker · 06/11/2012 14:45

I'm sure legally MNHQ have to be very careful what is published on this site especially with people being taken to court over things they've posted online.

OTheHugeManatee · 06/11/2012 14:45

Wow, did I miss a po-splosion?

NotQuintAtAllOhNo · 06/11/2012 14:46

I am sure Sole did not mean to offend. It was more a case of sole reporting because SHE herself was offended by what she heard.

Softlysoftly · 06/11/2012 14:46

Ah the clarion call of "x forum is now a Hun ville, not allowed to be funny, reg hating/ fill space here"

Has it ever occurred to check if posters are "professionally offended" before decrying it?

I have never been offended by anything else on here.

I have never reported a thread (not even that one)

I have always encouraged discussion.

But as I was offended by a poster starting an attention seeking thread about something that my children and I have thrown at us in the street, by someone who has, I think, shown tendencies in that direction, I must be out to ruin MN?

here enjoy.

InNeedOfAPennyForTheGuysBrandy · 06/11/2012 14:47

This whole fred about a fred is funny, or does that offend?

mamamibbo · 06/11/2012 14:47

none of these things relate to me but im offended on teir behalf so im going to report

SoleSource · 06/11/2012 14:47

Cynner · 06/11/2012 14:48

Well, SP you should see what Worra wrote about her dream of being your moon cup! Dont worry, I rolled her in the car park for her offensive behaviour..
