To take a job on a phone sex line?

Name changer.

I'm skint, on my own with dd who is at school but has a lot of health issues, misses school sometimes and has a lot of appointments to go to.

Finding work to fit in with this is proving bloody hard, I'm not highly qualified!

So I've been browsing work at home things after realising Avon and all that guff isn't for me I came across a company looking for female phone sex chat line operators. Big company, done a lot of googling research and they are legit.

So called them, filled out my application and was offered a start. So logged on last night at 10pm for 3 hours. It was fine. Most of the guys were really nice, some shy, some not, none were creepy! I am an open minded person anyway, and very chatty. I found it very easy to be honest and in those 3 hours I made £12.80 which isn't mega bucks but considering I was sitting in my lounge watching a movie between calls I don't think it's too bad.

I'm thinking I can log on whilst dd is at school and bring in some extra cash.

Will need to register as self employed etc which I will do.

I need to get in touch with them today to let them know what I want to do.

I don't think I could tell anyone though!!

OP I have PM'd you!

YANBU by the way.

Inneedofbrandy · 02/11/2012 11:51

I really thought about this, went as far as applying and getting a number to ring to put my spiel on. I looked into it more and couldn't see it making more money then a full time job at tesco. £12 for sitting on the sofa sounds good though.

ClippedPhoenix · 02/11/2012 11:53

My friends mum has just retired and started doing this. Grin

LFCisTarkaDahl · 02/11/2012 11:54

That is so badly paid!

£4 an hour to have men jerk off to the sound of your voice.

It's just so little money.

myphonesexdrama · 02/11/2012 11:55

From what I've read if you're really good and having really long call times you could make about a tenner an hour but it's unlikely you'll get that every hour you're logged on. About 6 looks the norm.

myphonesexdrama · 02/11/2012 11:57

I know that's what it works out as but I wasn't talking non stop for that hour. I was watching tv, doing the dishes and sitting in my lounge in my pj's with a hot chocolate!

BreeVanDerTramp · 02/11/2012 11:58

It pays better than childminding Grin

I don't think YABU but I would have my mum/dad/friends/postman asking why my landline was always busy? Would that be a problem for you? If so you would need a cover story, maybe say telemarketing - selling double glazing?

TheLateMrPamuk · 02/11/2012 11:59

I used to do it. Always got paid and the managers were helpful. But after a few weeks it was driving me mad and I hated the phone ringing.

Think they have a very high turnover of staff.

lucyellenmum · 02/11/2012 11:59

LFC - £7 an hour to break my back pushing a broom and mop around, lugging the bucket/hoover up three lights of stairs, rushing my arse off so that they don't sack me for not doing enough in the time is so little money. Id rather like the privalige of earning more but in today's job market, you know, you can't be too choosy. Its very VERY easy to judge someone doing a shitty job for shit money from a position of comfort. Right now, i'd do pretty much anything to support my family and actually if i thought i could make the sex chat work, i'd do it.

myphonesexdrama · 02/11/2012 12:01

Not really during the day, it might mean the odd ppi call doesn't get through!

Most people call me early evening when I wouldn't be on anyway. I can still get normal calls when I'm not on a call I would just need to ring from my mobile and log off so I didn't miss any calls because they don't like you missing calls!

Well I've done it, and it's not bad work, though after a while one gets sick of it. THe money isn't massive of course, but you can just sit at home and log in when you feel like it, and get on with all sorts of other stuff between calls. (I remember building a couple of bookcases in between wankers one night). It's certainly better than scrubbing toilets for the minimum wage.

Good luck OP. You are welcome to PM me if you want any advice.

Have you watched this OP, but there is nothing wrong with what you are doing

SolidGoldYESBROKEMYSPACEBAR · 02/11/2012 12:34

You'll hear a lot of whinyarsery from people who basically have a massive problem with the idea of any kind of commercial sex-based entertainment. Oh, and the screaming monogamists, as well (despite the fact that a high proportion of callers will be single).
Trust your own judgement, OP. Do it till you get fed up with it, there's nothing wrong with it; it just doesn';t suit everyone as a line of work.

everybodysang · 02/11/2012 12:58

It's not so bad - but it can get a bit soul destroying after a while. My advice would be go for it, and just be prepared to maybe not do it for all that long (I did it on and off for five years BUT mostly text rather than voice calls).

It's rather eye-opening though. tries to forget the nose picking/balloons/farting

Voiceofthevoiceless · 02/11/2012 13:12

I might give this a go myself, could pay for a holiday next year!

pumpkinsweetie · 02/11/2012 13:14

Blimey, sounds like an easy way of earning money!
Might consider it myself Grin

InSPsFanjoNoOneHearsYouScream · 02/11/2012 13:49

I couldn't do it as I'd laugh if they say anything slightly funny or strange Grin

TheLateMrPamuk · 02/11/2012 13:50

Somebody wanted me to call him a naughty little elf as he wanked.

myphonesexdrama · 02/11/2012 13:54

I did watch that programme at the time!

Spoke to the company today and I'm going for it, got nothing to lose!

LEM

Definitely not judging, I just think that's shite pay - I personally have and would rather clean for £7 an hour.

I'd do it but I'd end up pissing myself laughing. A friend used to do the webcam on Bang Babes website/channel. She'd be sitting there looking all come hither to the camera, whilst she was sitting on chat on Facebook with me, talking about our kids and laughing at what her last caller had said. I used to give her ideas when she'd run out. Was hilarious and she used to earn a packet.

janflan · 02/11/2012 15:01

I did it for a while a few years ago. I never had what i would call a bad caller they were all respectful just had different ideas about what got them off and some just wanted a chat.

I think it's changed now but then i wasn't allowed to instigate a sexual conversation i had to wait for the caller to which could be awkward.

I had to have lots of different personalities and one was an 18 year old. I had a guy call for a chat who kept going on about not believing i was 18, we'd spoken the day before as well and he'd said it then too. I kept telling him i was earning money whilst at uni but he wouldn't let up. So he asked me my year of birth which i had no idea what it was supposed to be and he hung up.

An electric toothbrush is great for pretending it's a vibrator.

I would think about doing it again but i have a teenager who goes to bed later than me so it wouldn't work.

SolidGoldYESBROKEMYSPACEBAR · 02/11/2012 15:04

Texting is good too though the text companies like you to work scheduled hours, on the whole.

ClippedPhoenix · 02/11/2012 15:10

I've also toyed with the idea as due to be made redundant but like another poster, I have a teenage boy and live in a small flat. I just wouldn't be able to pull it off.

Think it would also put me off men for life Grin
