everyone i'm surrounded by on a day to day basis, are wealthy, everyone is on about where they are going for half term, all of them are going abroad or somewhere lovely, and they have all been on several holidays throughout the year etc

they all have larges houses and plenty of spending money etc

i don't know i just find it depressing sometimes.

I agree with you 100% and often have to kick myself for feeling envious/sad about it. I am single and earn fairly ok money, but the vast, vast majority goes on just existing! I know I choose to live alone in a nice area so I can't complain, but it does seem shit sometimes.
Try not to compare lifestyles and focus on cheap things you genuinely enjoy. Tragically, mine is taking a tenner out on a Saturday morning and seeing what books/tat I can get from charity shops...

I think it's true, you are happier if you are one of the wealthiest in a poor area than one of the poorest in a wealthy area.

I used to have a group of friends who were all on 6 figures and I struggled along. However, they were all lovely and made allowances. Still it was depressing when they were all going skiing...

I have been working in Zurich for the past 18 months. It is like former East Germany but with prices 1000 times higher. I had to continue to pay my mortgage and utilities where I live during this time. It is well depressing.

I have this feeling with work colleagues and their holidays and cars and big houses.

well at least not the ones i know, and the mc people i know, love to talk about how such and such only cost xyz

Don't be envious, you never know the state of their bank account/overdraft/credit cards/massive (interest only) mortgage/food cupboards.

TBH I am not really envious of anybody I would just love to go to a pretty lodge . I think you have to let envy go and not care who is away on their 4th holiday of the year or who has a better house, really don't sweat it,

Our income is above average (most definitely not mega bucks) but we live in a fairly economically deprived area so can't compare ourselves unfavourably to most of my friends.

So I agree with AKiss. I think I'd be a bit if all of my friends were off skiing and to the Sychelles every year.

Are you talking about your particular friends lives? Wouldn't their lives be the same no matter where you happened to live? I find it hard to believe you're privy to the private lives of everyone in the immediate area.
I neither know nor care what people who just happen to live nearby are doing.

I'm just about to move to a rather naice place and I'm so excited! Sure, DP and I are going to be amongst the poorest people living there but I don't care. The loveliness of the area makes up for it.

Where I was living last year for uni was pretty grim (i.e. the sort of place I didn't feel safe walking down the high street after dark) and now I get to live somewhere full of greenery, little independent shops and where you can buy quinoa. (Yes, yes I know quinoa is a MC stereotype but I'm trying to set the scene here)

I know it's a bit of a cliche' but you have to count your blessings OP. Moving somewhere less nice isn't necessarily going to make you any better off and your general surroundings would be less nice to be in.
On a practical note the clothes you find in charity shops in posher areas are so much better

go rent a damp bedsit on shit side of town see if that cheers you up

I am in the same situation and I like it. (Except lack of storage space). I am the only person in the village with no fear of burglars. And big houses eat money.
