to not want to kiss my DC full on the lips?

I have noticed this mother at the school before, kissing her DS(8) full on the lips, half a dozen times, with wet sloppy kisses outside the classroom door. This morning she was directly in front of me and it was 'mmmmm......mmmmmm......mmmmm.......mmmmmmm....etc' in our faces. I kiss my DS wherever I can aim and catch him (head, cheek, anorak). Am I being weird? When I was at home, wet sloppy kisses on the lips were for people you were married to/in a partnership with. Or AIBU?

They mightn't be dribbling but there would be saliva/moisture on their lips that would make contact with the childs lips.

FelixDaSouza · 08/10/2012 21:01

I agree MrsDeVere

Definitely sad for the people who find it disgusting or bizarre. The relationship between a parent and a child is completely intimate in an innocent way.

Should I stop my 2.7 year old Dd putting her hands down my top and have a wee squeeze of my boob? No, of course not! It would never even strike me for it to be wrong! It just gives her comfort and it's no different from a squeeze of an arm or a leg to me or her.

MogTheForgetfulCat · 08/10/2012 21:02

Are you that uptight about other things, or just about lips/breath/kissing one's own DC?

Posterofapombear · 08/10/2012 21:03

Never thought I would go for mouth kissing with DD, but then I never thought I would have to stop her stealing my sanitary towel out of my pants and running off or have 'boob' shouted in my face in Waitrose or have another human crap on my lap then smile.

Ok I said I understood why people are so upset, now I am not so sure.

You're all way over the top, 'tis amusing really.

Carry on.

FrustratedSycamorePants · 08/10/2012 21:04

baffled the spit on a tissue to wipe the face. I hated that as a child.

BaffledTruly · 08/10/2012 21:05

Are you asking me Mog ?

I didn't realise it was uptight until I read this thread ! Sad

clemetteattlee · 08/10/2012 21:07

Baffled, if your children tried to kiss you would you let them?

FrustratedSycamorePants · 08/10/2012 21:07

poster that's funny my dd pinches unused tampoms. Confused

felix my 4yo still does the hands and arms down my top when she's tired or ill.

BaffledTruly · 08/10/2012 21:07

Frustrated yy @ the spitty tissue, also Grannys warty, mole mole with grey stabby hairs growing out of it!

FamiliesShareGerms · 08/10/2012 21:08

Baffled, I used to hate things like having to share an ice cream or a cup, but that was the same whether it was an adult or child (especially my little brother - yuck!!). And I used to hate the on-the-lips kisses that my elderly, hairy female relative used to give us, but I think that's standard fare in the lexicon of childhood dislikes.

Still a big leap from that to thinking that kissing your children on the mouth is inappropriate even if they are happy with it.

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 08/10/2012 21:09

See this is one of the things that MN has taught me, some people don't like kissing their dcs on the lips - who knew?!

Each to their own and all that but i do think people using oral sex as a reason are a bit odd.

MogTheForgetfulCat · 08/10/2012 21:10

BT - I was asking you, yes. Your views sound a little...disproportionate. It just makes me Sad to think you could see me kissing one of my DC on the lips and pretty much recoil in horror (even if only inwardly). And I just wondered if you were similarly reticent about other things. Sorry, no need to answer, just being a sticky-beak.

OxfordBags · 08/10/2012 21:10

Baffled, I'm afraid it is just you. That kind of thinking is juuuust about within the realms of normal childhood fussiness, but to carry it on into adulthood is Having A Big Ishoo. I can't believe you've never seen an adult kiss a child on the lips and didn't know it happened until now!

What really upsets me and pisses me off is the notion that kissing is an adult thing. A sweet, intimate, pure form of love should be bestowed upon adults and not children?! So kids need and deserve that less than adults?! THAT, my friends, is some fucked-up shit right there.

My little DS shouts 'Mama!' and gives me a big smackeroo on the lips when I lift him out of his cot every morning. There's nothing more lovely or natural than that.

FelixDaSouza · 08/10/2012 21:11

Frustrated glad it's not just me who is subject to booby squeezes!

BaffledTruly · 08/10/2012 21:12

Well, yes I see. It's up to the kids really, if one of them went in for a mouth kiss I would probably give them a peck I suppose. I guess I just remembered my own dislike and assumed all kids must be the same!

I am kind of fascinated as to how I've never noticed anyone doing it up til now!

MogTheForgetfulCat · 08/10/2012 21:12

FSP - my nearly-5yo still puts his hand down my top when v tired or upset/ill, too. Just a comfort thing, for sure.

greeneyed · 08/10/2012 21:13

Aw thread is not really funny anymore just strange, my one year old neice will insist on mouth kisses with toungue out at every opportunity, she slathers all over my disgusting mouth and I love it! My son still gets kisses on the lips whenever I get the chance, I understand being noplussed about mega displays of public affection (particularly if it seems contrived or for others benefit I.e look at me and my son aren't we great) but I don't think that is what the op is getting at particularly after the blow job comment. I don't even think this is a learnt thing, my parents show no affection whatsover but it still felt the most natural thing in the world to kiss my baby on the lips - when's the cut off? I hope I can still do it for years yet/forever - do some people really think I'm weird?

clemetteattlee · 08/10/2012 21:13

DH has been known to use massage as foreplay.
I massage my children.

Is massage a sex thing???

KellyElly · 08/10/2012 21:14

Re the weird oral sex comment, I assume your DP hold his dick while pissing so does that mean he shouldn't touch your child with his contaminated hand??? Oh and you both wipe your arse after a poo so then noone should be touching anyone with that line of thought!

BaffledTruly · 08/10/2012 21:15

Mog I definitely wouldn't recoil in horror. I'm not the OP !!

OxfordBags · 08/10/2012 21:15

Btw, Baffled, what would be wrong with a bit of saliva or moisture from the adult's mouth touching the child's? What, exactly, will happen if it does? And how come that happening is fine adult-to-adult but not when an adult kisses their child?! You can't impose your own childhood weirdnesses on other people, and, indeed, other children. What if your poor Dc have wanted to kiss you on the lips and you've denied them that love because you're presuming they will share your phobia? Very sad. And don't say the reason is germs, because once a kid can walk, an adult's lips are probably the least germy thing that will touch that child in the space of a day!

owlelf · 08/10/2012 21:17

mrsDV your post painted a really really lovely picture in my mind.

I kiss my DC on the lips, without givingbig a second thought. At bedtime they often grab me for several 'smackers' in the lips, sometimes with comedy sound effects.

I respect the fact that people have different thoughts about affection, kissing and being tactile, but I honestly didn't realise some people thought mouth kissing should
be reserved for DH/DP. It makes me feel sad that some people might perceive me kissing DC on the lips as inappropriate.

owlelf · 08/10/2012 21:18

Givingbig? I meant giving it. Blush

BaffledTruly · 08/10/2012 21:19

Btw, Baffled, what would be wrong with a bit of saliva or moisture from the adult's mouth touching the child's? What, exactly, will happen if it does?

I guess I supposed the child would feel revolted/violated sort of thing.
