I caught this programme while driving today

and she just came across as unpleasant, self pitying and vindictive.

And said that if the Mail fired her she'd not be worried.

Personally having listened to her - but never read one of her articles, the sooner they do, the better for the planet.

I'm sure she has at least ONE redeeming feature, maybe she washes her hands after using public toilets

I ignore her as much as possible. That said, she does quite a bit for animal welfare, that is certainly a redeeming feature. Glad I don't know her IRL though!

I've very slowly grown to increasingly warm to her.

She's very open about how screwed up she is, she seems to be quite often saying 'this is what I am, it doesn't make me happy, I wouldn't recommend it but I'm battling a lot of demons.' not many people are that open.

She seems very vulnerable, she knows she alienates people but is desperately lonely, she really loves animals...so my initial loathing has warmed to a empathy/pity.

From what she said on the radio, she's lonely cos she dishes the dirt on all her friends and family so they (sensibly) give her a wide berth.

She could just shut up and get some friends WITHOUT exposing them to the readers of the Daily Fail.

I read some of her articles; i do find some of her opinions & attitudes offensive but i feel a bit sad for her too... it's like she just can't help herself.

She needs to remember to actually to be polite to people in public service jobs such as supermarket & hotel workers. If she can't be polite then just say nothing rather than be rude then write about it!!

I think Liz Jones' problem is a lack of empathy - not in a nasty way exactly; but i think she finds it hard to understand anyone who is not like herself.

However i like to read her articles on animals because those are written with genuine enthusiasm & she has a good understanding & empathy with animals.
Also she has a genuine interest in & knowledge of fashion so i like reading those articles even though i wouldn't pay for designer clothes & my style is totally different to hers.

She just needs to concentrate on writing more fashion & animal care articles & stop writing about herself & other people because that's setting herself up for a fall & hurtful to others.

I'd recommend proper psychotherapy for her to sort out her Mental Health issues (because i think she has them - in fact she admits it in some articles) - her life would be happier then hopefully.

Oh yes, she's pissed all her friends and family off by writing about them no doubt.

But she seems to have made a decision to just put everything into her columns and to live with consequences.

It's a deliberate way of alienating people and one that she admits results in her being lonely and sad- that's pretty complex screwed up behaviour- and her columns are frequently about how screwed up she is.

She says in that interview that she has no self esteem or confidence and suffers from great social anxiety.

I think if she were unpleasant in a hugely arrogant, 'I don't care because I know I'm so fantastic way' I think my loathing wouldn't have mellowed, but the more I've read she seems to be unpleasant but in a 'I don't care becau my life is so crap and no one likes me anyway' way.

It's very self sabotaging, very sad and that's makes me dislike her less and warm, just a little, to the damaged woman I think she may be.

I think none of us really know her. All we know is the persona she projects, very profitably, for the Daily Mail. She may or may not actually be like this, and unless I'm actually going to meet her, I don't really care.

I think she's said some dreadful things and is often the author of her own problems but there are times when I find I do agree with her. So I think yes I might, just might be mellowing a little towards her.

Some of her advice/recommendations regarding fashion are quite well informed imho and although is batty about animals I think it's nice in a way.

She irritates the arse off me. Can't stop reading about her though.

I caught this too. Her comments about her mother with dementia Basically it's ook to write about her as she isn't well enough to understand. What a horrible, horrible woman. I didn't hear it all though thank fuck.

I base nearly all my opinions of people on the personas they project, its kind of a necessary social function.

BTW When/if you meet Ms. Jones and therefore start to care, you are aware that she will still be projecting a persona arent you? As will you.

Unless by 'meet' you meant live with for 20yrs and undergo joint intensive therapy??

Ooooh didn't think of it like that, but I'm sure she hates Caitlin Moran, asCaitlin Moran is happy and seems to like herself and her life. So it could be.

Poor Liz does seem to hate other women's happiness, that is a really sad and painful way to live.

Blimey, never knew Nina Mishkov was still alive - that sounds vile what she said!

I would have a degree of sympathy - or perhaps empathy - if her writing were just confessional but she seems to a) hate almost everyone she comes into contact with and b) go out of her way to turn people over, cases in point being the unsuspecting yokels to whom she so objected when she moved to the country. It's one thing stitching up models and celebs, it's quite another when it's civilians; random OAPs in Devon and people who are nominally her friends. I think she forfeits sympathy by not knowing the distinction.

Aldo a great deal of her writing seems basically to centre on her resentment towards couples and people with children, basically because she is envious of them. Denigrating such a large number of people based on what is transparently envy, rather than anything mire considered makes it very difficult for anyone to take her seriously, I think.

I bloody hope the Heil doesn't fire her, my Daily Heil boycott means I avoid the bitter old hag entirely. If she starts writing for a decent newspaper it will only annoy me.
